Well, I could connect to Panthenon and Custom games before last Friday's patch. Since last Friday's patch, I have been unable to connect to any online game. Just checked the latest patch - still unable to connect to any custom game (and the host was in Japan). I'm not sure what has changed, but ... oh well. :(

This is quite an interesting read. Thanks :)

Interesting update. Just wondering whether a game like Demigod could be ported to the Xbox ... :P
but given the success of Friday’s update
I would beg to differ on this.
Personally, I think the long-term solution is for us just to host the games entirely.
Is this something that is being worked on for Demigod ? Otherwise, your list of features planned / hoped for in version 1.1 looks good. Especially the part about improved AI. :)
In about the 2 weeks since I purchased Demigod, I would say the connection issue has been intensely frustrating. Since last Friday's patch, it has been impossible for me to connect online. It's hard to recommend Demigod to anyone really - you won't be able to tell whether you can connect online before purchase; and even if you can connect online, you won't know whether that will change with the next patch.
I share the sentiment of the OP. I've been in situations (at least for MMORPGs) where you wait for months for "promised" improvements ("This is an area we are looking to improve" etc). But the promised improvements never come. I am starting to get tired of this "unable to connect" to multiplayer fiasco. No amount of (alleged) good corporate communications can really make up for the inability to connect online. :(
I think it's a good idea. But a related issue is how to "deal" with players who lose connection to an on-going game ? Should an option be given to them to "rejoin" the game ?
After last patch I couldn't connected to any internet game. Olways say "You have been disconnedcted because the muchmaking service has faild"
numitoros, I have exactly the same issue. With the new patch, I have been unable to connect to any online game, with the same message about the "matchmaking service has failed".
With the new patch, I'm back to being unable to connect to any online game (skirmish, custom and panthenon) :(
Well, after the latest patch, I'm back to being unable to connect to any game - panthenon, custom or skirmish. Ah well :(
Yesterday evening (14 May, Singapore time) was a bit frustrating. We had difficulty connecting to each other; and unfortunately, when I tried to host the game, my game crashed about 5 mins after starting up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new patch(es) bring a bit more stability. Incidentally, does anyone know if Demigod is already officially available in stores in Singapore ?
Thanks for the games last evening. Quite an eye opener :) Next time though, let's not play on "fast" mode. For some reason, it seems to make the game run slower on my computer, for some reason. All the best for your exams, silencer.
Thanks Xinoxlx for the correct :P That's why I'm interested to see what others think are good combinations of demigods - i.e. which demigod(s) would complement well another demigod. :)
I would be interested to see what others think are a good combination of demigods in 2v2 or 3v3. I was involved in the losing end of a 3v3 in which the opposing side were a highly efficient 2 UB and one Senda. Senda's inner grace made the other 2 UB move like lightning, among other things.
If we want to set up a private game (i.e. password), it might be useful to use the private mail function in this forum. (I've checked and I haven't gotten any private mails yet, I think :P) Hmm .. I didn't realize I was playing against AI yesterday evening :P
Thanks for the game playdoh, evil gia et al. Although it was kinda unbalanced :P (2 v 3). Strangely, after the game ended, I got an error and had to restart the computer. But yes, it's a lot more fun (and unpredictable) playing online :)
I'm not sure what happened ... but I downloaded the patch, disabled my firewall ... and I could actually connect to a Panthenon game ! :) I have to say that Demigod really shines online. I'm thrilled, pleased (except for the laggy bit :P). Finally ! Added : Lovely - going to ask my brother to try out this game. :)
Hello Evil_Gia :)
Newbie question - does playing online with the new patch still require port forwarding ? Is it required, no (that's what the NAT facilitator is for). Is it a good idea? Absolutely. If you know what you're doing and feel comfortable making the changes in your router, forward those ports. You can also use the ImpulseReactorOptions app located in the Demigod\bin directory to specify the ports used on your machin
That’s where proxies and such are scheduled to go live.
Would port forwarding still be required to play Demigod online ?
Newbie question - does playing online with the new patch still require port forwarding ? Thanks in advance for any replies.
I'm fairly sure you're not the cause, Playdoh :P - I'm unable to connect to ANY online Demigod game - skirmish, custom, pantheon. That's why I'm curious whether Demigod will be approaching a stage in the near future where it's possible to play online without port forwarding.
Lone_Lemur, I have the same problem - aka unable to connect to any online game. I'm fairly sure I've done all I can to get my ports open. However, when using the port checker utility (it's free - http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm ) it appears that the ports are not effectively open.
