Citizen PassingBye, doing that sort of thing might get you promoted to Veteran. ~SDC~
jmgarth, I've already fixed this crash and we will probably be putting up a fix this afternoon.
Excellent! Thank you! :) :) ~SDC~
After downloading the latest update and starting a new game, I got the following CTD: Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows XP Video Card : RADEON 9200 Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 0050580D 01:0010480D D:\Stardock\Drengin.net\AltarianProphecy\galciv.exe Processor Registers (x86): EAX:10F3F448 EBX:7FFDC000 ECX:10F3F448 EDX:00000000
I upgraded to TGN a couple of weeks ago. Disciples 2 has been sucking up a lot of my time since then. Great job, Stardock! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
No, Space Man 1, this is a thread where you can report bad gramar or spelling that you find at this site, or in the games. (Hope that is right, probably not.)
This thread was started during the beta program, for us to report those kind of errors. It can still be used for that purpose. ~SDC~
Well, it worked. Tried it first with the Political Machine, and it worked fine. Then tried it with Disciples, filled up the disk, SDC hung so bad I couldn't even bring up the task manager. Rebooted, deleted the TEMP directory files that were being used to build the archive, and this time archived the movie files first, moved them off the disk, and that gave me enough room to archive the rest of the game. Anyway, thanks for your help, Peace Phoenix. ~SDC~
Was that all there was to it? Use "Archive Application" from the File menu of SDC to create the archive, delete the app, then use "Restore Archive" to put it on the new drive? Seems too easy to be true ;) ~SDC~
The drive I have my TotalGaming.net games on is filling up, and I'd like to move the games to another drive. I remember seeing a procedure to create an archive that could be backed up (burned to CD, for example), and then reinstalled. It seemed to me I could use that procedure to move the games from one drive to another, but I've searched the forums and can't find the thread where it was talked about. Can anyone give me a link to it? TIA.
no link I guess
Sorry, Desert Fox, I was away for a week and so could not respond. Yes, the photo I referenced was in the hardcopy edition of the magazine, I don't know whether it appears on their website www.economist.com. ~SDC~
Good to hear from you, Solitair! I thought I might be the only remaining active gamma squad member. The image from The Economist is an actual photo from space, flipped left to right and top to bottom, so I think it's more a copy of the idea than a stealing of the image. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
I see that you made it. Congrats!!
Thanks! ~SDC~
Thanks for reviving this thread. I'm one game away from making Admiral ... and then 30 games away from Fleet Admiral ;p . Maybe I should retire early so I can have more time to play. ;) ~SDC~
The Science and Technology section of the September 25th edition of The Economist illustrates a story on the search for Earth-like planets with an upside down, reversed image of the Earth from space, with Europe and North Africa shown prominently. Now where have I seen that before? ;) ;)
I've been playing on Tiny for quite a while now, so I'm appreciative of your Medium advice. Have you tried going for Interstellar Business and Capitalism to get Stock Market, and going for Extravaganza to get Stadium? I've found that those help greatly in keeping up morale and boosting economic activity. ~SDC~
Really, does that work? I thought that Brad had put in code to try to prevent people from swinging from evil to good & vice versa. ~SDC~
No, playing AP with the latest update in my last game I was almost pure good but was able to steal evil techs from the Drengins through spying. Actually this was the first game in a long long time that I was able to steal techs of any kind. ~SDC~
I won't pretend to speak for him, but I know he's been around since the OS/2 days, and is an honored veteran of GC betas. I believe his nomme de guerre is a reference to General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia during the late unpleasantness between the states. ~SDC~
at least once in a three weed period?
How long does it take to smoke three weeds? ;) Sorry, I just couldn't resist. ~SDC~

Nice to see this thread revived. Go Cari! ~SDC~
Thanks alot jmgarth that means alot to me!
Thanks, that actually means quite a bit to me, too. I hope you do have a very happy birthday and get the AP that you want. With a full time job and a family I can't claim to be the best or most experienced gamer out there, but I do know that Stardock makes great games, supports their games very well, and provides, through these forums, a chance to connect with other people who enjoy the same things. ~SDC~
(I'm turning fifteen.)
Happy Birthday! Yet more proof that Stardock games appeal to all ages. You're almost 15 and I'm over 50, and we share the opinion that GC is our favorite game. ~SDC~
Have I got the idea right?
Yes. On the other hand, if many of your trade routes start at the same system, then an upgraded starbase in that sector can make sense because you'll frequently have at least one freighter in the sector. ~SDC~
I picked halflings for my current game. With the slingers and a couple of heroes I was quickly able to pick up 4 high men towns. The slingers are great units. I still have 2 wizards to conquer, but with my high men cities working towards paladins it's only a matter of time. ~SDC~
Even towards endgame when all the really nasty stuff comes out, pure lizardmen armies can be quite strong, although they unfortunately can't benefit from Mithril or Adamantium.
That raises another question that I haven't seen answered on any MoM website (probably because it's in the original documentation, which I don't have). Does your city have to be built directly on top of a mithril or adamantium deposit to get the weapon benefit, or does it just need to be within 3
