I'm still on 5A, so I don't know if this has been fixed in 5B or C, but in the event where your scientists invent "The Undead Warrior", there are a couple of typo/spelling errors. In the description of the event, "Theyve" should be "They've" and in the second (neutral) choice, "benifitial" should be "beneficial".

They were building it.
Many months, probably more than 24, after I completed the gravity accelerators, I invaded the Arcean's home world and discovered that they were researching gravity accelerators. This is described as a "trade good - only one in galaxy". If so, why were the Arceans still building it after I completed it?
I have mini_freighter.bik, mini_starbase.bik, and mini_colony.bik, plus a bunch of n_tradenn.bik files in my Dregin.net\galciv\movies directory. I don't see the freighter/starbase/colony animations, but neither do I have a crash. Win98SE. Hopes this helps.
I'm talking about the doors opening.
Frictionless Clothing has the double %% also. It's probably a generic problem.
Like Jack, I'm still getting the choppy intro. 1.2G Athlon, Win98SE, 768M RAM.
Second Asmodean's opinion.
Took me a long time to download this beta on my 28.8 dial up line ... glad I could at least report one problem that you can fix.
Not that I expected it to, but this update does not fix the Ctl-N CTD that I reported in the thread "Beta 5 CTD Smart Exception". The debug.err is as follows, see the other thread for the smart exception report: Debug Message: ******* Starting Game Shell ******* Debug Message: Going Fullscreen Debug Message: Preparing to change display settings. Debug Message: RGB in format 5:6:5, Masks reported as f800:7e0:1f Debug Message: Now Fullscreen Debug Message: Shell
Started up a new game. The first time I hit Ctl-N on the new game, it worked, so I tried it again and got the same exception as I reported above.
Got the following immediately after hitting CTL-N: Stardock SmartException Logging Information 02/08/03 15:37:54 ------------------------------------------------------- Versions: Microsoft Windows 98 SE Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 Video Card : Matrox Millennium G450 Single Head LX Crash Information: Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Crash Addr: 0047038F 01:0006F38F C:\PROGRAM FILES\DRENGIN.NET\GALCIV\GALCIV.EXE
Don't know if this has been suggested before, but how about "wimpy allies"? For example, you're allied with the Torians and decide to attack the Dregins. The Torian diplomacy screen pops up and the ambassador says "Holy Shinola, what are you doing? We've only just gotten Battle Axes and you want to attack the Dregins? We can't support you and remain in this alliance unless you give us Battleship technology." Or perhaps "We demand that you give the UP inspectors more time! We will not be a
I think Stardock knows about this ... I've been advised that Ctl-R might help, although in another thread I gave an example of when it didn't.
Didn't the OS/2 game allow you to use a transport to move people from planet to planet? Without the even distribution across the system? Or is my memory completely faulty?
From rec.humor.funny: A programmer for Hewlett-Packard went to the doctor complaining about pain in her wrists. The doctor poked and prodded her (with cold instruments) for a while and issued of a prognosis. "You have carpal tunnel syndrome, but it's in its early stages. You should be able to continue work, but you should give up half of your programming." "Which half? Writing memos about it or attending meetings about it?"
I play on gigantic all the time, and I think the current scheme of speed techs and abilities provides a good balance to the game. It's just one more item to consider in your strategy.
But where is the smoking gun?
BTW, my sympathies on the carpal tunnel. I've had a moderate case for years, and have to wear splints on my wrists while sleeping to keep them straight. I switched my mouse to my left hand because of it.
Last year, before I downloaded the beta, I suggested (on the newsgroup, not on these forums) that there be a hotkey for "pass all ships in sector". After playing the beta I have yet to get into one of the massive battles that I tended to get into in the OS/2 game, so I would not so far have had a use for this hot key, but I mention it in case others think it might be a good idea. In the OS/2 game I would sometimes have 100 or more ships defending a critical sector, and would want them
I reported this problem in a different thread a week or two ago. I could not move the freighter onto the system I wanted to trade with. Tried at least 3 different systems, eventually gave up.
Were you playing as "good"? At some point, after the game has determined that you've made enough choices as good or evil, it changes the "skin" on the buttons. For instance, I'm now playing as evil, and the buttons are grey with red symbols on them. This is normal.
In regards to my last post about the fleet disappearing and having to use Ctl-R to be able to see it after each move - after disbanding the fleet this behavior went away; no more disappearing ships.
Later on in the same 4Z game, I had a "fleet" of 4 transports I was moving towards the Altarians. In Feb 2199, the first time I moved it the fleet disappeared, along with a Dregin starbase it was next to. Ctl-R brought it back, but each move after that made it (and the starbase) disappear again, and Ctl-R was the only way to make it visible again.
In the same game mentioned above, I noticed that in the battle window, which features icons and names of the opposing parties in the upper left and right, when I was invading a system held by the "Terran Theocracy", the name under the icon in the upper right corner wasn't "Terran Theocracy", but what looked like lower case "l"s with accents over them.
