That event where you accidentally insult some leader has been in the game a long time. I'm told that spying on the other races helps to avoid that event. The rationale, I believe, is that with spying you learn enough about the other cultures to avoid social gaffes ... ~SDC~

Hyperwarp is less than 90, at least on GC 1.2. I'm currently at 76 and have already researched hyperwarp, so I think it's 70 or 75. ~SDC~
Thanks, Bard of Prey, I get what you mean about predicability now. ~SDC~
Yes, but the way it's set up now, the actual alignment change from any event is random, so there's no way of knowing at the start of a game how many events would be required to bring you to a certain threshold... and even if there were, there's no way of determining how many events will go to the player and how many to AIs, etc.
Really? I thought (from something Brad had said last year) that each event had its own rating as to how far it would move you either way. For e
I tried to reload from an autosave file and got a consistent CTD. Strangely enough, I could reload from the "previous autosave" file. After deleting the autosave file and playing enough turns to get another autosave, I can now load reload from either. Seems like the install for 1.2 should have warned us to delete all old saved games including autosave, previous autosave, quicksave, and endgame save. ~SDC~

This is in response to Veteran Tyjenks. While I have not had a chance yet to do this with the current GC, I did play a couple of very memorable games in the OS/2 version of GC where I was restricted to a very small region originally, and it took a very long time to win the game. In the first one that I remember, I had a starting sector that had 4 habitable systems with class 15 and 16 planets (other than Earth which was 19). The only other sector that I could reach with the range that my ship
Destroyers were specifically created to attack submarines. ~SDC~
This might be something already mentioned, but how about a tech called "Advanced Interrogation Techniques" that increases your espionage abilities by x%?
One more congratulations! :)
Ack, typo ... first sentence should be "larger galaxy sizes", not "latger". :p
In previous betas several of us reported that in the latger galaxy sizes, trade routes established between two systems far apart were reported, when they were established and on the domestic policy window, to be between the alien system and a different system than that which had actually built the freighter. It was as if any trade route that was too long for some limitation in the code was being reallocated to a source system that was close enough for the game to handle. Well now in 5C
I've noticed that dip also on beta 5C. It seems to affect the alien races as well as the player.
One of the best things about the OS/2 game was the periodic updates that Brad & Stardock came up with. I had a game going almost continuously for 4 years - because of the innate replayability factors and the updates, the game never got stale. I was always eager to start a new game just as soon as I'd finished one. I salute Brad and Stardock for carrying over this continuing upgrade philosophy to GC/Win and Object Desktop.
Thanks, that clarifies things greatly.
In my last rebellion I had 75% morale overall, and lost 2 systems to the rebellion - the systems I lost had, I think, about 50% morale. But in the previous game, on beta 4Z, I lost a dozen systems, including two class 26 planets that had 100% morale. Which is why I asked the question ...
Which begs the question, how evil? I've been playing evil pretty consistently, and have been hit by rebellion in 2 of my last 3 games. Does it make any difference, either in the probability of a rebellion, or in the number of rebelling systems when a rebellion occurs, if you have chosen the evil answer on every single event, versus if you have chosen evil only on some of them, just enough to tip you to evil from neutral?
Great news, thanks Brad.
I'm looking at the "foreign policy" "stats" tab for info on the Torians. It says that they are 4th in population, 3rd in economy, 3rd in military, 4th in technology, 2nd in morale, 2nd in popularity, 3rd in treasury, 3rd in influence, and 4th in production, but 5th overall. How can it be 5th? At this point in the game it's only me and 3 others (not counting minor races).
No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. LOL
I'm in June 2191 in my first game with 5C, and for the last couple of turns the "find" button doesn't work. The next ship does appear in the ship info window at the bottom of the screen, but neither the map nor the mini-map move to show me where that ship is. I can't see anything in the debug file that might be relevant, and if I save the game and reload it, it comes up with the selected ship centered on the map, so I don't think it would do any good to send in a saved game. In case i
Very cool! BTW, I loved it when I got the upper hand in my first 5C game and 3 other races gave me tribute unsolicited. LOL
On 5C, the event where you're notified that business corruption is becoming a problem, the 2nd (neutral) choice has "business" spelled "buisiness".
The 5C opening animation and music are now smooth as silk. Great job! Win98SE, Matrox G450.
Hi, Cari. I got a string not found on the delete saved game window. Here's the relevant part of the debug.err: Debug Message: Sorting save game list by time. Debug Message: Error. String Not Found. Book:SaveGame String: DeleteGame Debug Message: Deleting previous save game.
