1) Get Impulse , log in, download, play. As long as the games are registered to your account (and they are as far as I can tell), you should be good to go. No need to re-enter your serial numbers. 2) Windows 7. There may be a slight learning curve coming from XP, but it's totally worth it.

If you're worried about your single-player favor points, you can edit the game.prefs file and give yourself as many as you want. This will only affect single player, but it works if you need it.

It's actually common practice for newer games not to delete settings like that when the game is uninstalled, just in case you want to reinstall at a later time. The save game files are in the following folder (you may need to show hidden folders first): XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Vista/7: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Try deleting any save games that are in that folder and see if maybe something was corrupt.

Do you remember what the error was, exactly? In Impulse, click the blue question mark button (upper right), and select 'View error log'. Take a look through the most recent entries, and copy/paste anything that looks like an error and we'll take a look at it. My first inclination is to try adding an exception for Impulse to any security software you might have, or even temporarily disable it to see if that helps.
Close Impulse, then follow this link in Internet Explorer: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/stardock_access.bat Save the file, and run it. This may solve your issue.
Impulse is the only way to update Sins. It sounds like you're having some Internet connectivity problems. If you have any security software running, try adding exceptions for Impulse, or temporarily disabling it and see if that helps. All else fails, use the bat signal: [email protected]

I'm guessing you're talking about Sins, right? To clear out your mesh files, you'll need to go into the application folder (right click in Impulse, select 'Open application folder'), and there are three different 'Mesh' folders. The first is in the root folder, and there may be two more, depending on which version of the game you have, in the \Entrenchment and \Diplomacy folders. Delete everything in those folders, then right click on the game(s) in Impulse, and select 'Verify Install
