If you're new to the game, there may be an advantage to going Sins, then Entrenchment, then Diplomacy. There's a lot of content, and starting off with Diplomacy may be a lot to dive into. Certainly not impossible, but I tried it, and had a much easier time starting off with just the base game.
You can also send an email to so we can try looking at your situation more closely.
If not, feel free to use the bat signal:
My money is on graphics card, though it depends on what those 'glitches' you mentioned actually are. Depending on the problem, you might be able to snag a screenshot of what they look like, which might help. I've had multiple cards go bad in my day, and the hotter they got, the worse they got, so a 5 minute timer on failing seems about right for that kind of problem. Do you have a spare video card you can try?
Try the following within Impulse: -Click the blue menu button in the upper left -Choose 'Preferences...' -Click the 'Reset Data' button -Close impulse and relaunch it. You may notice a long update time, which is normal as it is rebuilding the deleted info.
Rekab1: I'm not sure what Startgate is... Do you mean Stardock? (There may be an auto-translate problem there...) You should be able to install the game from the DVD itself. If it doesn't work, it's possible you got a bad burn, and some retailers will allow you to swap those out for a working disc (though not all).
I've updated your registration, so you should be good to go. If you're still having trouble, try closing Impulse and running the following file: http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/fix_registrations.reg Make sure to follow the link in Internet Explorer, as other web browsers will not handle the file type correctly. Once you follow the link, save the file and double click it to apply it.&n
Thank you for your patience, we're looking into the problem now.
I think you were the one I helped out on IRC, but I just want to be sure. Everything working for you? If anyone else (or you, if you're still having issues) is having this problem, send an email to and I'll try to get you straightened out.

It looks like you initially emailed us on Friday, then again on Monday. Keep in mind that we're not in on the weekends, and our support system, for better or worse, orders tickets by the last activity, so every time you email, it resets that, and puts you back at the end of the queue. We did, however respond on Tuesday, so you may want to check your spam folders just to be sure. Worst case scenario, you can log in here: https://esupport.stardock.com/ and chec
ALright thanks, again I appreciate the responses. One more question and its a fairly obvious one on my behalf: When is beta 2 forecasted to start?
Soon... [e digicons]:-"[/e] No hard date that I've seen, but it's getting very close, I swear!
IIRC at the moment the beta is closed, but Brad said it would open again at Beta 2.
This ^^ Once Beta 2 starts, we'll charge all of the pending pre-orders, and issue serial numbers. Once that happens, make sure you have the 'Show pre-release versions' option checked in Impulse, or Elemental won't show up.
Also, if you use Impulse, there are two ways you can access your serial numbers from within the program. Be sure that you are logged into Impulse using the email address you used to place your order. 1) Under the My Games or My Software tab, right-click on the title for which you need your serial number and select "View Registration". 2) Click on the blue question mark in the top-right corner of Impulse and select "Register a product with Impulse..." You want to create a war strategy server controlled at an undiscloed location that is capable of tactical and strategic learning and you want ot feed it terrabytes of data? From the E.U.L.A.: YOU MAY: 1. Install and use one copy of the SOFTWARE on a single computer. 2. Install a second copy of the SOFTWARE on a second computer only if you are the main user of this computer (home computer or laptop for example).
You can try manually changing the resolution in the settings files. You can find them here: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting You'll have to turn on hidden folders to see the 'AppData' folder. The files you want are user.setting and diplomacy.user.setting
Per the EULA, you can install on up to 2 (two) computers as long as you're the main user. If you want to play online with both computers at once, though, you'll need a registration for each for your ICO account(s).
All you need to do is send an email to and that will create a support ticket.
1) Right click on the game in Impulse. 2) Select 'View Registration' 3) ??? 4) Profit.
Sometimes the prefs.ini file doesn't save correctly for one reason or another, and it gets corrupted. Not often, but at least it's an easy fix. Glad to hear you're up and running again, though. For general knowledge sake, if you're playing Dread Lords or Dark Avatar, you can check the other GalCiv2 related folders in 'My Games' for their debug.err and prefs.ini files.
Didn't that patch also weaken the pirates?
Yes, though they're still quite formidable.
Keep in mind, the forums are not official Stardock support. If you're having problems, shoot an email with as many details as you can about the problem and what you've done so far, and we'll try to help you out.
