you know, "depth" and "warfare" can go together. A complex combat system with unit management can have a lot of depth too. It's wrong to think that in order to create a game with "depth" one has to have only a primitive combat system.

they sure are. I started a new game and by luck of the draw got 3 Economy resources. Now my empire is being flooded with money, 100% spending, +3000 every turn. And I'm not using Stock Market and higher. I dunno what to do with all that money, piling up by the millions. haha I have used it to purchase tech from aliens once, but the next turn United Planets meeting came up and they voted to share all the tech. well if the lead game designer says so, then all the "good" options are only there for suckers Ted, it's very possible to win the game as Evil with genius AI. The key to success is early expansion, focusing on constructors in mid game, then focus on social production in late game. Even when everyone is at war with you, you don't need to have nearly as many ships as AI to keep your own. Just cause AI looks impressive on charts and numbers, doesn't actually mean it's winning.
