Does that show the Terrans in an alliance with the Iconians? A fine way to prevent war while whittling away with influence.
My allies are the Krynn, the Korx, and the Altarians. I've tried the "ally then assimilate" trick before, but not on anyone I've fought a war with. So no alliance with the Iconians.

I would personally be fine with either option.
Chancellor Maximus: End-game plan is tech or alliance win. Influence wins are impossible on an Immense galaxy, and either an ascension or conquest victory would inevitable bring me into conflict with the Torians - something I want badly to avoid. Darkxarth: I can certainly write an AAR faster when not worrying about maintaining a real "story", if that's what you mean. Short post today. Part 9: The "second golden age"
I've never seen the "United Clans" as such, but in one DA game, this happened to an opponent. The Drengin, who had been constantly increasing their taxes as my allies slowly conquered their worlds, were hit by the "galactic disease" mega event - which cut their morale in half - and the next turn, seven of their planets broke away to form the Drengin Federation. Interestingly, they were good-aligned, and eventually wound up a member of my alliance, surviving until the end of the ga
It's not so much that I'm doing badly; it's that the Altarians are a monster. They're currently largely a sleeping giant, but they have a lot of planets under their control. Several other AIs are pretty huge as well. Update will come soon. For the record, barring some kind
Thanks, everyone! Part 8: I'm running out of pithy titles As 2232 dawned, most of the galaxy remained focused on finding a cure to the ongoing Galactic Plague. The key word here, of course, being most. Way to keep your priorities straight there, Eidden. The Altarians
I say you should try again - just temporarily delete the custom Terrans, or hand-pick your opponents.
I can confirm that even in the unmodded game, getting the AI to trade certain techs (Xeno Biology among them) is like pulling teeth, so this is not a problem with the mod, though it's possible some of the AI values have been tweaked.
Given the influx of new players now that the game is on Steam, bumping again.
Well, it's your choice, but at least with my personal modifications, I'd say that the game is entirely playable , if that's your concern. Like MarvinKosh, I keep tweaking to make things more challenging, but right now it's pretty much equal to DA (I play both, though the original GalCiv II is now fairly neglected on my part). In point of fact, the original game itself was playable - it was just that only some of the races would ever pose a threat, and even they
I'm honestly touched that I inspired someone to write an AAR, so thanks. What are your settings?
Is it actually possible to edit the Super Dominator corvettes? I know that they use one of the stock designs (the "Thunder", I believe), but I've never been clear on whether editing that would change the corvettes.
Interesting to see your test results. One thing I might note is that it's possible that the Drengin were such a menace because of the relatively low number of races. They were fighting at most four civilizations, and it sounds like the Altarians and Torians weren't much of a problem. In my own games, I've observed that the Drengin tend to be an early menace, but routinely lose because they try to fight too many wars at once - there are multiple games I have on record where
For the record, I believe that the new features of TA, when combined with one of these mod fixes, make the game worth playing regardless of the bugs in the raw product. The AIs that do work are noticeably improved, for one thing.
By the way, I know the AAR forums aren't very busy lately, but I'd really appreciate it if anyone who is reading this would provide some feedback. Part 7: End of the war The beginning of October 2231 saw another major clash with the Iconians at their southern colonies - specifically, the heavily defended world of Banfield II. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/qrtxian/GC2TA_TerranAlliance_1289099
Agreed - I'm using a homebrew version of a mod like that, and it's made my game significantly more challenging.
If this hasn't been totally abandoned, I think it's safe to say that we can now call the vote.
So how exactly did you work around the Drengin's obsession with manufacturing techs? It's been an increasingly obvious characteristic of their behavior in my own games.
In general, you probably want to turn Mega Events off, as this isn't really avoidable otherwise.
While this particular event is obnoxious, I wouldn't say that it in itself is worth disabling Mega Events for, if you like other ones. I've seen it maybe three times in 90 or more games, so it's not incredibly common.
Heaven forbid pirates invade then I'm done and I just start over.
Incidentally, this would almost certainly be the "mega pirates" - a mega event, which is intentionally designed to destabilize the game. You might want to turn those off at first.
I've never been the type of player to care about "all-X" strategies and never will be. But I do tend to designate most planets with a specific purpose, although more based on what (if any) bonus tiles they have then on planet quality.
Are you playing TA? I've never had a problem in DA (Metaverse games) with this Dread Lords megaevent bug which I have seen discussed in other threads.
It's limited to TA as far as I know. My understanding is that they tried to beef up the event a little for the expansion (and succeeded - the DL are much quicker to build up when the event doesn't crash), but created this bug in the process.
The Dread Lords mega event is bugged - on occasion, they will show up with a nonexistent ship orbiting their planet (instead of a scout like they're supposed to) which triggers a CTD when interacted with in any way, including when the Dread Lords take their first turn. It's been reported for a while, but no fix so far. Your best move would be to go back to a save from before the event and try things again - it's random, so they most likely will not show up on a second go-t
Thanks very much for the information. Just one thing, you said " Even then, you'll still need to set the AI personality to 8 or 11 (Terran and Generic if you're customising races in-game)" what does that mean and where do I change it, or where is there more information on the subject?
There are four basic AI personalities - 7 (Drengin, Yor, and Korath), 8 (Terrans, Drath,
You can still play the original game (or Dark Avatar) on Ultimate Edition, you know.
