To all readers: this has not been abandoned, but posts will be infrequent, as I am not in that much of a hurry to write an AAR about a game I have long since finished (I have extensive notes and don't need to worry about forgetting the details). I am currently working on the chapter or chapters - may be split in two - on the Second Korx War, and am debating how much 'fiction' to put in with the game details.

In response to the recent slew of "play by council" threads forming, I have created this as my response. I alone shall dictate the progress of this game! No other shall interfere! This AAR is mine and mine alone! ... Actually, the title refers to my goal. Unlike most of my games, I won't be going for the Diplomatic Victory, that win type of weak-willed sub-races. No, I and my Drengin Empire will be pursuing an all-out Conquest Victory , crushing a

Although I am not a particularly skilled ship builder (preferring to play the game) I think you should probably put up some pictures of your designs to give people an idea of what you're looking for. In particular, saying "the first huge hull" doesn't help much as there are five sets of hulls; which set do you mean?

Although I haven't ventured much outside of Terrans, on the surface of it I'd say the Krynn. Most of their unique techs involve their religion and converting people to it, which is reflected by influence in the game. I have not actually used them but by looking at their techs through the TOA Galactopedia, I can't think of another race that would be better at the influence game.

#9 is definitely impossible.
8) Minor races aren't part of the council, but it'd be a pain to have a major race as a minor race, but using a major race ID. It might not even be possible, I never tried it.
You misunderstand my idea, and this is possible. What I did was copy a major race's (the Yor, and I also did the Thalans) xml file and paste it in place of a minor, but keep the minor's RaceID number (for instance, the Dark Yor, who were replaced by the Yor, ar
are u sure u have an earth texture in ure game when u start this map?
Absolutely, at least on DA. I don't believe I've tried the map on TOA yet. It's possible that the graphics overall between DA and TOA affected things somehow, but in DA Earth on the Milky Way map looks like, well, Earth.

I gave them all small bonuses to military/social production, research, economy, and pop. growth to help them stay semi-competitive during the colony rush. In my ongoing "test" game, they've fallen into three groups that I think of as: "Major minors" (Dark Yor and Lentzlandians) - on a par with the smaller major races, "Minor powers" (Carinoids, Scottlingas, Paulos, and Jessuins) - minors with 1 or 2 colonies, good-to-fair abilities, and intelligent behavior, and "Fools
At the higher difficulty levels, it does design, and re-design, and somewhat frequently. Tough ought to be enough to see that.
Not that its designs are always a success - my recent encounter with a Krynn dreadnought with 110 defense and 1 attack is proof of that. #8 can be quasi-achieved, as I said, by creating major-minor races - see the link above - but I don't think it's possible otherwise. Actually, I think I've seen ship packs with new

I assume you're modding the pictures, not the events? Off the top of my head, and looking at the Gfx folder: The Plague and Disease mega events have a movie of a ship flying over water. I've never seen the mega pirates so I'm not sure, but I think they may also have this movie. Jagged Knife have the image of a ship identified as Juggernaut01 in the Gfx folder. Dread Lords have one of the invasion movies (the one with ships coming down on a city) identified as "

foxthree: I know it's possible to create new political parties, but AFAIK it's not possible to create political parties unique to a specific race - for example, his idea of having Drengin political parties be different Drengin clans (actually, that is how I think of parties when I play as the Drengin). BTW, could you provide some information on how to do #9 (giving races the same "unable to communicate" properties as pirates & so forth)? I've never really pulled it o

Through extensive testing I've determined that the event causes a crash when the Dread Lords spawn on an extreme planet. This causes them to start with a non-existent ship (the cause of the
Debug Message: Ship does not have a valid ship class in CalcTotalMoves. Setting moves to 0. 1, 3, 6. Don't know, but doubtful. 2. Probably not, although you can create tech trees with no advanced governments. Both the Yor and Iconians in TOA cannot advance beyond Imperial governments. 4. Absolutely! I've done some work on this subject and in my current test game two minors have developed into full-fledged (if small) powers with several planets. Cool. Out of curiosity, where did all your images come from? There was a Dune movie but other then that I'm not aware of a great deal of 'visual material' for the series. Also, just FYI, the machine civilization was formally known as the Synchronize d Worlds. Your description also seems to have cut off abruptly: "The human revolt against the machines known as the Butlerian" is missing an end to the sentence.

Councilor TMS2224 - Your measure may be outdated by the time of the next ballot, as the next council session won't occur until after Commander Mekoides delivers the current report. However, if not I will make sure to add it. Looks like the council may be getting ahead of itself again - better hurry up with the next 12 turns!

Thank you for your votes, Councilors. My intention has always been to serve this council to the best of my abilities, and I shall endeavor to so as both the official balloteer and as a councilor. I believe the above plan is the best way to organize the ballot, and will implement it as our next session begins. I will amend it, however, to make FOR and AGAINST on different lines. While this slightly lengthens the ballot, it will make it easier to read which councilors sup

By the way, Councilor, though I intend to remain independent of your party, I would like to suggest that you change your name to the Kushana Advocates for Defense. "Imperialism", in the history of the Terrans and several other species, implies an aggressive and warlike policy. Although this is not your stated intent it's easily misunderstood as your goals under your current name.

The thumbnail for the HW image is not working (as of this post). First, I'd like to begin my remarks by stating that I intend to remain independent of both the Imperialist and Prosperity coalitions that are forming. A moderate voice is necessary if this council is to avoid being paralyzed by partisanship. Dr. Malar, I'd like to be the first to vote in support of your proposed plan for research, which I feel should be acceptable to both of our newly forming political p

I would like to suggest that my fellow councilors reserve this discussion for our next formal meeting, when we can be provided with more information about our spatial neighbors. I move that the vote on the compromise proposal be deferred until then. For what it's worth, I personally agree with LordCarlos's recommendations. Thanks to the dark energy storms no other power is likely to pose a military threat at this moment and it would be foolhardy to delay improvements to our

Which races were you up against? I've noted this behavior from the Terrans, Drath, Altarians, and Korx. Declaring war should cause them to build up a military, unless you're so much stronger that the AI decides to surrender. During my first TOA game when I originally saw this behavior, both the Altarians and the Korx developed into two of the strongest military ratings on the map (though the Korx were a paper tiger with pitifully outdated ships), but the Drath surrendered immediately

I've started the game, but haven't encountered either of the "major race" minors yet. I wound up disabling Super Abilities altogether as I was playing as Terrans and I've found that Super Diplomat leads to somewhat boring games; since this was on TOA there were more then enough differences between the races. Interestingly it's also the first TOA game I've had where the Drengin aren't affected by the "evil race colonization" bug. The Yor and the Korath never were affected by it. <

Crippling difficulty? AAARGH! I still find "Tough" AIs enough of a challenge, although I've dabbled with including one or two Painful races. Also, is there any way you can shrink those 'character images' a little? They seem somewhat oversized compared to the text and screenshots. In character: Dr. Malar, I'd like a full report on the status of our planet, with particular note to any areas of high resource value. Also, your projections indicate a 26-week resear
