It's a pattern I didn't expect and would have thought unlikely, hence it's unusual. "Recurring pattern" may be redundant, though.

After a number of DA games, I've noticed an unusual recurring pattern: except when they don't have Alliances researched, all the good races always form alliances around the beginning of 2232. Previous relations don't seem to have much bearing, unless one good race has a much stronger military or has recently fought a war with one of the other races; map size also has no notable effect. I'm not sure, what, if anything, this means, but it seems to occur too often to be a coincidence. I
Further information (and a bump): I've now proven to my satisfaction that the event causes a CTD when the Dread Lords materialize on an extreme planet. While the PQ doesn't seem to matter after all, whenever the DL homeworld is extreme, the ship they start with is the nonexistent game-crashing ship; while whenever their HW is a normal planet, the ship is a normal "Scout" that doesn't cause any problems. Unfortunately, it's not a work-around unless I was willing to turn off extreme pla
Not that I don't agree with you on many of these points, but they're not really "bugs" so much as they are tweaks or changes that would make for a smoother game. If there's ever another update released, some of these could/should make it in, but they aren't really "bugs" per se.
There used to be a way to play a quasi hotseat game as described in https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Hot_Seat_Game.
Used to be? Does that mean it doesn't work any more?
You should be more specific, as "mods" cover a great deal of ground. Firstly, what parts of the game do you plan to mod? Xml files, such as RaceConfig, can be opened and edited in Notepad; there are certainly better editors out there but it does work for me. I don't know how to edit graphics, but if you ask around I'm sure another modder can help. You don't need any folders or files in your mod except for th
Further note: I've now begun a full-fledged game with this mod, and the super abilities definitely do work now. In fact, it's resulted in the Dark Yor going on a colonizing spree thanks to the fact that I made them Super Isolationists and the Yor aren't in the game - giving them a chance to grab barren worlds well before everyone else. Both the Dark Yor and the Lentzlandians have actually managed to develop full-fledged empires of 6 or 7 worlds, the same size as some of the smaller major race
I'm still playing it, and so are a number of other people, but don't expect GalCiv 3 for a while - Stardock's focus will be on Elemental for quite some time.
It sounds like that would only apply to TA and DA. DL doesn't have those fields in the raceconfig.xml.
Yes, the mod only works for TA and DA. I have yet to determine how to make DL minors colonize, if it's possible. I definitely did edit those other settings as well; in fact I set the Snathi to be ridiculously aggressive (warmongering squirrels are fun). The minors' SAs definitely don't work, though: in ad
State of affairs: 2226 As 2226 dawned, the Terran Alliance found itself in a weak position. The powerful empires of the Arceans and Torians were nearly three times its size, while the Drath, Altarians, and Iconians, though just mid-ranking powers, also easily outmatched it. Though little was yet known of the Thalans and Korx, Terran Intelligence agents verified that both also possessed manufacturing capabilities that far outmatched humanity. (A useful history of
As someone who's been pressuring you for more posts since the beginning, I would suspect that I like it.
Recently, I attempted to see what sort of mega events were triggered by my playstyle and used cheats to summon mega events in my ongoing TOA and DA games (without saving, of course). The mega events seem to come in a certain order, and the Dread Lords are one of the first, so it didn't take me long to realize that, despite what I'd heard about the last update fixing this, the Dread Lords event is seriously bugged. On one of my two ongoing TOA games, the event caused a CTD when I hit t
This may be a dumb question, but you did set your relations to something other then "unknown", right? Only races you've met appear on the treaty screens.
Actually, I don't think that's quite correct, as you can't "rebuild" capitals, at least in DA and DL, to prevent the exploit of building a capital, giving the planet it's on to an AI, then rebuilding it elsewhere and taking the planet back to have multiple capitals. However, if you conquer a planet where a capital or another "unique" project is under construction, it will still finish even if you've already built your own version of that particular capital. Furthermore, capitals built
Although properly this should be in the mods section I am posting it here so as to increase the chances of getting help from a developer. The title describes my situation exactly. I have created a simple custom campaign by editing the gc2campaign file for the Dark Avatar campaign and placed in a campaign folder for a mod I use for custom scenarios. When playing with or without the mod enabled, it does not show up to play anywhere. I am not at all computer savvy, I cannot intu
I was wrong: ALL scenarios produce a CTD on TOA. The only type of game that can be played is the normal sandbox mode and the campaigns. I've read that there is supposed to be a patch for this; where is it? Experimenting now with a simple custom campaign to see if that works. Edit: The custom campaign works... but only in TOA. It doesn't even show up as an option in DA (discussed in another thread).
I'm attempting to create a custom campaign for DA, complete with custom maps for each scenario. While I can easily make the scenarios and the campaign framework by old-fashioned xml editing, the amount of work it would take to create custom maps without the editor would be nightmarish. Is there any way to, as it were, "backport" maps made with the editor to DA? Edit: I would prefer not to make the campaign for TOA if possible as it's intended for use with a DA mod.
22% tax rate isn't very high; I wonder why your homeworld was so unhappy.
I recently tried an experiment to see what all the mega events that might occur with my playstyle are. After enabling cheats, I loaded several different saved games and used the cheat to summon a mega event (ctrl-Y) repeatedly. I saw a fairly diverse set, but rather to my surprise, I never saw, despite loading several very different games, the Peacekeepers. What particularly surprises me about this is that, in a number of games, there are multiple wars raging, with ships in many different inf
They kept researching hulls, think they had huge hulls but still no weapons. Altarians like to research new hulls too much in my opinion.
I've never seen this exact behavior, and certainly not from the Altarians, but I'm fairly certain that Race Personality 8 (the one used by the Terrans, Drath, Thalan, and Krynn) is hard-coded in DA to focus on researching bigger hulls early, at the cost of weapons. The Drath never do well in my games, but the other three routinely bui
However in general the core ships suck
So true, and I might argue that the "in general" is saying too much. The only core ship I ever, ever use is the constructor - I still keep it around at times as a cheap short-range constructor.
There are quite probably hundreds of threads with suggestions for GalCiv III... I suggest you post there instead of starting yet another one.
Immense. I'm one of the ones who wants the biggest map possible.
So why don't you set it to abundant?
I never play with abundant habitable planets on any game. It increases the amount of micro-managing to an intolerable level, and in addition, there's a lot of evidence suggesting the AI does better with less planets. This thread isn't really a complaint about the game, but is about whether I'm remembering c
...yet now, into the first game I've really played of it, I have yet to find anything at all besides two barren worlds. It's very, very early in the game, and I haven't even met any other races yet, but I've already scouted out about 15-20 systems near Earth (I am Terrans) and the lack of habitable planets is distressing. I started with friendly relations with the Arceans (for backstory reasons) and from talking to them it doesn't seem that they've found any habitable worlds either, a
