This can easily be deduced by several different factors, for example, a Tech Victory is usually best done by focusing on research + income solely. To research engines (or else) beforeahead is nonsense, but if you backcheck an AI's research pattern in a game where he finally will take on to the TechVic branch of the tree - you will see that he will have this unlogical pattern there.
Am I misunderstanding this, or are you saying that the only techs you research in a game

As I said above, I've never had problems with the AIs retaking the JK's planets. The Korx rose to a major power when they appeared in TOA by conquering almost a dozen JK planets, most of which were originally Thalan. The JK are unbalancing but that's how mega events should be, and they aren't (in my experience) unbalancing in favor of either the player or the AIs... ...UNLIKE the mega pirates, which are the event that most needs fixing. The idea is basically a galaxy-wide reset f
I get this event in every game on immense map.
Actually, the first and only time I've ever seen the event was on an immense map. Note that when I first wrote this post all my games were on DA (or DL, but that has no mega events). Sadly the game crashed before I saved and they didn't reappear, but using the ctrl-Y cheat and fiddling around indicates the event itself isn't bugged, so I might see them again.
During a recent game of DL as the Yor, I had the Fundamentalists random event pop up, but was told in the message that none of my planets had revolted (even though I was evil). The only other evil player in the game was the Drengin, and they were down to just two planets. Since the Fundamentalists rarely take just one planet, I wondered if.. sure enough, they had taken control of both Drengin planets. There were still a number of Drengin ships on the map and I could still talk to them, but wh
Stupid double posts.
No. Placing these buildings and other 'global' buildings on bonus tiles has no effect, and is actually a waste of the bonus. Percentage bonuses do not stack.

Good race! I always like it when the backstory has potential for entire works of fiction in its own right. I'm a little unclear why you aren't just using the Tolmekian Federation or simply the Federation as your race name. Trek aversion, perhaps? Also like the logo. Certainly can't complain about the ability picks; with a total 50% economic bonus there should be no financial problems. Not sure where the 11 points of logistics are coming from, though. I didn't realize it was possible t
One day maybe you'll try to win a warfighting suicidal game, maybe one of the tournament scenarios where the player finds himself in a difficult starting position. Then, you might find it necessary to refer to such strategies in order to survive.
This is actually why I won't play on Suicidal; I don't like the fact that it's necessary to engage in "gamey" strategies in order to compete with the AI. I'm certainly not trying to complain about anyone else's playstyle, but s
I cannot see the problem most people have with the bad moral a highpop (econ) planet do occasionally face: Because, why even try to sustain an approval rate where people are happy?
Speaking for myself, because I consider lowering taxes right before an election to be "gamey" and unrealistic. The electorate might have a short memory but not that short. Also I role-play my race enough that I never want the population to actually die off from high taxes;
The larger the population, the more your tax income, so there is a relation although I'm not the person to ask exactly what it is, having not done much analysis myself. The catch with farms is that the larger the population the worse your morale, meaning that you'll also have to have to take up space with morale buildings. So it's generally easier just to build markets et al. A very high PQ planet is the only place to really consider trying to get a large population for economic purpo
Perhaps this varies based on difficulty level, or are you referring to the possibility of whether an AI will ally with the human player? In nearly 100 games I've never seen AIs ally with each other in Year 4, or 5 for that matter. However I play on Tough and you usually play on higher levels (I believe) so this could factor in. IIRC you also prefer Very Fast tech speed, while I go with a slower setting, so this could also have some relation.
I vote 8 majors, pre-selected so that there are two of the alignment we plan to pursue and three of the other alignments, which should achieve a nice ethical balance for play. Randomized races would also be fine, though. I would, to be frank, like to veto the veto as, while I may do my posts in-character, I'm not really interested in role-playing and wouldn't like suggestions vetoed just to fit the feel of being a cabinet member/imperial advisor. That said, as the man on the scen
In fact, examining the recycle bin revealed that they hadn't been deleted, only moved (extremely long story). Disregard previous post.
Sadly all plans have been temporarily derailed by the accidential deletion of almost all my saved games. While my ongoing "Galactic Wars" AAR will not be affected by this as the game it was based on had long since finished, my experiment here has been lost.
Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be getting the Impulse version after all. The CD does not have an option to run with DOS, making the DOS Box useless, and the Windows version categorically does not work. At least it only cost about $5 or so.
I'm reasonably certain that the Peacekeepers relate in some way to map size. First time I ever saw them was on an Immense map in TOA, and I've never seen them anywhere else. Never had the mega pirates and can't say I'm sorry... they're one of the mega events that tends to be unbalancing in favor of the human. Dread Lords appear to be one of the purely random mega events - if you invoke them with cheats, the Dread Lords and the galactic plague are the only two appearing right at the start of t
Would covering a planet in banking centers or stock markets etc. provide more income then a mix of farms and income centers?
Yes, absolutely. Farms don't increase income in any way, they increase max population which leads to more income. However, they also hurt morale, making it harder to have high tax rates, and so economic buildings are always better, for adding money, then farms. Except on very high PQ planets there is no reason ever to have more then one farm, at l
SelfGovern: Now that's just wrong . I don't know how a human player could deal with that, let alone the AI. Still a good way to make use of otherwise worthless premade ships, though.
Provisional responses: Race: Preferably doesn't use one of the more alien tech trees like Yor, Thalan, Iconian, etc. as I am not as familiar with them. Immense galaxy, 9 AIs All victory conditions but ascension (if it matters) Council interaction: Agree with the suggestions made, but with two caveats: 1. I would prefer some input on tactics at the "grand strategic" level - for instance, figuring out where to prioritize in a two-front war 2. Add
To sum up, then, the best idea is probably to download the DOS Box and run with that?
As mentioned in another thread (link: https://forums.galciv2.com/394402 ) I was able to mod the minor races to colonize. In that thread there is a link to another discussing the same topic, in which some of the posters debated turning the minors into quasi-major races to, in effect, have more then 10 major races in a game. There were two main objections raised to this: Minors are immune to influence Minors do no coun
So I just recently found a copy of MoO2 in, of all things, a Half-Price Books - for sale for just $5 or so. Although it was a little before my time, from everything I've heard since joining the space 4X community, I'd have to be stark raving mad not to get it. Now, while I know about its availability on Impulse, I have a sentimental preference for physical CDs and frankly I just don't really like Impulse anyway. So, unless some other gamer buys it first, I'm going to buy it. However,
You are talking about 6 years into the game and by that point I would expect that there would be few Ai's left to ally with one another. Could it be that perhaps by that time you're quite a bit stronger than any one AI or even perhaps stronger than the sum of all AI's together? In DL I did notice that towards the end of games where I was down to 3 or 4 AI's that they naturally allied with each other against me. This could merely be an
Sounds like an interesting concept... I might be interested in joining, and I'd certainly be interested in reading; your previous AARs were excellent.
