I was quite happy to lurk and not login tonight, but then this came along... I read it in full and almost agree totally with the analysis. We differ perhaps because I have played this a fair bit and see some of the depth you mention having trouble seeing (but perhaps its because I did look further, as you said many might not), however, your analysis on competitiveness and what drives it in an RTS is top notch. Yes Sins needs that extra oomph... im not exactl

Im likely to pre-order in a couple of months i.e. when im more financially stable i.e. recently married lol But probably after I have seen some more than what I have so far. If that means I have to spend and extra $10 then so be it. Its actually better value to wait and see from my perspective, than to pre-order with little info. I am however very happy from what I have seen from Stardock *ahem* never tried elemental or indeed know anything more about it other than its n
No to increasing the penalty for adjacency. Its already a little off how far away empires make alliances with each other despite never seeing each other. Yes to giving a penalty to the team that is obviously winning. Would make late game diplomacy more interesting and challenging.
You know you have played Sins too much when... ...You buy all your houses in a line as to maximize "trade" between them. ...You go the long way around the neighborhood because there was no 'white line' between yours and your neighbor's house. ...You expect your car to slowly repair itself and then drive down the street slowing down at each house but then accelerating at high speed to the next one.
^ Agreed [e digicons][/e]
Biggest problem is this is so freaking rare. 12+ only happens maybe half the games you play (but some other player may have grabbed it first) and 16+ is almost unheard of. Makes the refinery very niche.
Why would we want to ban you? You iz pretty lulzy in my opinion [e digicons]|-)[/e] But seriously, any exploit should be nipped in the bud as soon as possible. Players should be disciplined for using it and/or mocked for being so weak as too need to break the rules to win a game so they can brag about how great they are when in fact they are just insecure jerks who need to cheat in order to beat genuine players.
^ ouch...
Iv had Cruel AIs with 3 Revelations shut down all of my caps late game and pick them off one by one long after the frigates have slunk home. Obviously having 3 Revelations is not viable in Multi-player but an AI with a lot of cash can make good use of them :D
Wow dont quite know what happened with that one... In case anyone has trouble reading it: It has a similar effect to Ion bolt if you choose to attack and override the ability with damage. Or you can choose to leave the Cap/Support Cruiser/HC/Whatever locked down, stopping it from moving, attacking, using abilities etc. So in that sense its more flexible than Ion Bolt. And at higher levels the long duration and low cool down allow for multiple units

Reverie works well if you are trying to stop a Cap from leaving the grav well and you have a ton of frigates behind you. Sure the damage cancels the ability, but with its low cool down its not hard to recast and stop the ship from leaving again. Its also nice to take one or two (or perhaps even more at higher levels) Caps out of the battle while you deal with something else like the healers or damage dealers. Can be great in an Advent mirror match to lock down those Progenito
I think this has gone a little off-topic... I think the best course of action is the one being discussed in another thread about a fix to the Domina and the Revelation's Guidance. The Advent have always been designed as a late game race and currently perform that duty in a slightly sub-par fashion (but only due to the lack of reliable mobile healing and a weakness the Phase missiles) against mature Vasari or TEC players who have held control of the field for the entire game.&nb
I've read it. I like some of his ideas but his writing style made casual reading difficult. Some good stuff tho.
Ok, well as Darvin said, the battle doesn't need to be even. Put Destras and Dominas on one side backed up by their Guiding Revelation. And then on the TEC side, give them a dunov and a ton of LRMs (no hoshi's). The idea is not to see who wins, but just how much the winner wins by. EDIT: might want to go light on the Destras cos those things are gunna chew up the LRMs pretty fast...
Yea that does sound like him. You gotta love a character who is both extremely talented and yet extremely flawed. Look at Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and you have a wonderful case study of this. Makes for a very entertaining read.
Interesting. Gotta say the Extuli is a nice touch. I play around with some genetic engineering as well. I've got this character who is the heir of an extremely wealthy inter-stellar freight company who is basically a bored badass who jacked an expensive black market, neuro-system upgrade up his spine to augment his fighting skills. It allows him to travel to some of the worst places in the Confederation to create havoc. He is so fun to write as he is always getting in
I would recommend using Destras against TEC HCs to remove that random element of the side beams. You will get more reliable numbers the more you remove variables from the equation. Good tests though, and interesting results. I wish I had the modding skills to test stuff like this.
IDK if Vas are weak in the early game... sure the Skirantra is nerfed but the Kanraks still come out the door at T1. No debate here however that TEC completely owns everybody early on tho.
Tis not an easy road but a very rewarding one. I remember writing the climax and feeling thrilled at finally being a able to put down the ideas I had had for so long finally on paper (figuratively of course, I would not have been able to write the 125,000+ words on actual paper in the time frame I did). I like to mix space opera with brutal in-your-face combat alongside some fun tech. I also have a talent with poems, and so included some 'prophecies' that foretell futu
Then it is a pleasure! What style do you write? Do you have a manuscript already down on paper?
Thanks Volt, I actually thought I would get more response on a forum that is tied to such an intense action sci-fi game. Perhaps there are a lot less sci-fi novel fans here than I thought.
Ah thanks, yes you are correct. Mistake when I was typing the post. Corrected now :)
