If there are drivers for your monitor you may want to install those as Vista doesn't always handle the generic monitor driver well. If you have any anti-virus programs, exclude the Demigod folder from it as A/V software actively scanning a game's folder can cause performance issues. Since it's happening during multiplayer, it could also be caused by an internet security program. You could try making an exception for Demigod in any internet security program that you have an

The update is up...shut down Demigod and start hitting F5 in Impulse. :)
We are also very close to fixing the favor point bugs. The new queuing system that we're working on will make the NAT code a lot better as it will eliminate a lot of the timing issues, and the proxy servers will allow you to connect to people you previously wouldn't have been able to connect to so getting into a game should go much more smoothly. As for those of you who cannot connect to the facilitator at all, we're working on that.
every time i try to connect to any multiplayer game, be it custom or skirmish, i get a message that i cannot connect to a NAT facilitator at this time, and to try again later. Is this a problem from my end or something to do with the server load? If it is my end, is there anything i can do to fix this?
If you get the same message with trying to host a game, it's something on your end. Otherwise, it could be related to the high volume of users. If you
A lot of the DLLs that people are reporting missing have to do with IE7. Here's an article with advice on how to fix the missing dlls: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/ieframedll.htm We're also looking to see if we can eliminate some of the dependencies but that could take longer.
There's a check for available updates at the start of the game, and if the server can't be reached, it can take awhile to timeout. The length of time to timeout doesn't seem to be something that I can change as it appears to be hardcoded in the Windows APIs we use. We're working on (a) trying to figure out why the server becomes unresponsive and (b) trying to make it not lockup Demigod if it does
One thing that I've seen when trying to help people with this problem is that Demigod is not loading because it's can't load DLLs. This can be caused by un-installers removing files that it thinks are no longer needed. You could try running a windows repair install (you won't lose any programs or data, it just fixes missing/damaged windows dlls) if you have a Windows install disc. If you want to determine precisely which DLLs are not being loaded, you can run the program fro
since more and more ISP's are filtering for, assigning lower traffic priority and in some cases outright dropping P2P-like connections (we all know the reasons why) would it be fair to say some connectivity issues may turn out to be the fault of one's ISP? In which case there may not be a whole lot anyone can do about the issue.
Yes. In some cases it may only be certain modems or firmware versions from the ISP that are problematic. If you suspect that the p
I am an idiot. I have sygate firewall running on my computer. When I turned it off completely, the game did not freeze and I was able to get the main menu of the game.
I've been looking into this and it appears that the problem is that the WinHTTP APIs can detect that there's an internet connection but it doesn't realize that it's blocked. But it's strange to me that port 443 (HTTPS) is being blocked. Can you please check your firewall settings to see if it is indeed bl

Do you have an internet proxy and if so, what is your default web browser?
That's a good point. Please state whether it works A) Never B ) Sometimes C) Most of the time D) Almost always That way we can determine if there are really good routers out there. :)
Please reply here with what kind of router you have, including brand and model number, what kind of modem you have (brand and model), the name of the company that provides your internet connection and what kind of connection it is (DSL, Cable, T1, Satellite). This will help us to determine if there are models that are commonly having problems so that we can try to make it work for your setup. Please also state if it works A) Never B ) Sometimes C) M

Please send me the debug.err file and any files with the extension .csv from My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod to immediately after this happens.
Today's update is only to the connection code. Before certain of you go up in flames, GPG IS working on balance and other issues near and dear to your hearts. Beta 3E is focused on the connection code, however. If you got 0.95.033, make sure that you grab the second update from today as it fixes a problem with joining games. As I post this, it's not up yet but it will be soon. I've spent a lot of time hammering at the connection code, plus being able to specify which
...still no pictures of the restrooms...
Do you really want to see the restrooms where the majority of the employees are single males under the age of 30? The womens' are nice though.
We see Cari is hard at work in that picture
I was told to move because my head was blocking the view of my monitors. :)
I might have to bring youguys bagles some moring as a thank you for great work and for staying in MI
We love bagels. :)
There should be a file called debug.err in My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod. Try to join a game and then send me that file (attached as a file, not pasted inline) to
lol, Cari, what is a 7800 GTX doing sitting on top of that beige desktop at the bottom right?
We were going to test to see if we could reproduce the problem with some video cards where the framerate is extremely low, but we never ended up trying it here. NVidia was going to try to reproduce it though.
Oh, and I have Cari's cell number. What will the Fan Club offer me for it?
I know where you live!
Have you gotten into Virtual Machines much yet? I could see those as really, really handy for testing. Although, VMs tend to have really poor graphics.
Not yet. It might be useful for running tests on the connection code since I have a console app for that, but for testing actual games it won't work because it doesn't emulate a good enough graphics card.
Some of you have 4 monitors on your desks? I thought I was super cool with 3
All of the developers and artists have at least 2 monitors for their main machine, and most of us game developers have at least one test box. I have two test boxes + my laptop so that I can test the network code.
If you come in #demigod (I'm usually there between 10am-6pm EST) we can try and debug this in real time. It sounds like you may not be able to connect to the NAT facilitator when you're on your router. Can you host games or does that fail too?
* "We aren't writing C code anymore"
Most of the game engine is controlled by LUA. The fact that they're not working on C code right now isn't terribly limiting for them, and we're going to be doing post release updates, not just bug fixes, so the game is not going to stagnate.
With previous versions, the connection code would randomly pick the ports to listen on. The disadvantage of this was that you couldn't open and forward those ports manually in your router. With Beta 3B, we included a .NET application that will let you set registry keys to specify which ports the connection code will use. The file is ImpulseReactorOptions.exe and it needs to be run as an administrator on Vista. Once you enable the option, you can open and forwar
