I used to belong to the crowd of "the developers should have lower end machines so that they will make the game perform better on crappy machines." That's all well and good, but we spend a lot more time actually working on the game as opposed to testing, and particularly during crunch time, you don't want your machine to be chugging. We recently got Incredibuild, which distributes the job of compiling over multiple computers, reducing full rebuild time for Twilight of the

Zubaz, I agree. We are celebrating something far more important than the fourth day of the month named after Julius Caesar. :) It IS a special day, and should be marked as such, particularly in a society that celebrates at the drop of a hat. We even have Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) celebrations here in Michigan, and that's the Mexican Independence Day!

We had to send the manual to the printer before we had multiplayer done so that's why there are no instructions for Multiplayer. So here's some instructions on how to create or join a multiplayer game. First of all, make sure that your firewall is configured to have UDP ports 6000 and 6112 open and forwarded. If you still get an error telling you to open your ports, you may need to also open and forward ports 6001 and 6113. For Windows Firewall, one of t

Version 1.03 is now available on Impulse! For those of you who haven't hung out on the GalCiv2 forums, we like to post a list of changes in our updates. I've tried to keep the technobabble to a minimum. :) To stave the most common question asked after a game is updated, yes, save games should still work from the previous versions. + NEW: 60 Seconds Interview Forum + TWEAK: Added code to increase the amount of scaling done to map objects

I'm afraid that you'll have to get a new video card if you want to play it with your current computer. If you bought it directly from us, you can get a refund; otherwise you'll have to try to take it back to the store. We updated the post here to list what video cards support shader 2.0: https://forums.politicalmachine.com/315413 If you decide to get a new video card, don't get a Matrox as they don't really

Unfortunately, unless the store will take it back, you won't be able to get a refund. Since you mention that you were really looking forward to playing the game, I will say this: It's very easy to upgrade a video card, and you'll notice better performance in your other games. And, if you're not planning to get a new computer soon, a new video card for $20-$30 can help extend the life of your current computer for a year or two, depending on what kind of games you like
Any thoughts on the string not found error?
It's probably due to Stardock Central not downloading the files completely. See my previous post or the edited original post for instructions on how to re-download the update.
Hello Marvin, good thinking - but unfortunately Stardock Central still lists the Twilight game as the old version, even though it was updated and shows the new version number when you start the game. But I will try this noneth
If you have windows XP64 DO NOT DELETE SDCENTRAL as impulse will not let you download or update TOA saying your operating system is not compatable with this game
Or you could just run it in compatibility mode and skip the melodrama. I'm going to edit the original post to include these instructions for if you failed to update: If SDC is showing the latest version installed but your titlescreen does not say the correct version, or you have missing strings
It's a good update but the game still randomly crashes (for me) when I or when of the AI add modules to economy or mining starbase. But for now I just save every time before I add modules to those and kill enemy constructors so they can't
I haven't heard of that one. Have you sent in any crash logs or saved games?
When starting up a game, check your starting relations with each empire - something could have been set to start with everyone allied to you or something.Yes, all the computer players are showing "Team" in the relations field. And there is no way to break the treaty on the first turn as I don't have the Universal Translator technology.Edit: Not allowing the Alliance victory condition is a work-around for me. Obviously I'd like the option though.
Hmm...you shouldn't be

Hey guys, I'm really sorry for the delay, but things have been really crazy around here. We did manage to squeak in a few more changes. The update is available on both Impulse and Stardock Central. Airb330, You may want to check to see if your Macbook is overheating as we have had overheating problems reported with users playing our other games on Macbooks using BootCamp. Overheating would definitely cause problems. To avoid overheating, it will help if you're not playing on a soft surface like a bed or a couch where the laptop will sink down - fabric in general will trap the heat.

Please go to My Documents\My Games\PolMachine2008 and post the contents of your debug.err here and we'll take a look at it and see if we can get you a workaround. --Cari

Yes, you can play on the LAN. For the player who will host the game, click on Multiplayer. In the lobby screen, click on LAN and choose Yes when it asks if you want to run the LAN server. The server address will change to be your local IP address. Then create a game as normal. The guest then just has to change the value in the server address entry field to be your IP address (hit ENTER to make sure that it gets updated). The guest should now be able to see and join
