Btw ,Cari what do you think about the first games coming out soon completely written in managed code? Would you even consider managed code in a future project, lets say in about 5-10 years? The performance aspect comes instantly to mind, but those folks claim they are almost en par with unmanaged code. I couldn't really believe that, when I read about it Do you see a managed game future?
I'll reserve judgement on those games when I see how they

As a temporary workaround, you can edit the version string in the registry, although if you try to join a game with someone who actually has the 1.04 version, you'll have problems. On XP, you go to Start->Run and type in regedit In Vista, you just type regedit in the Search field Then, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to Softare->Stardock->Drengin.net->PolMachine. Right click on Version, choose modify, and enter 1.04.036

OK, hopefully I have these in order. :)
On a more serious note; how's the crime rate in Plymouth being that close to Detroit?
Plymouth actually has a low crime rate. We're probably about 30 minutes drive from Detroit so it's not like we're getting crime creeping over the border.
Nice. But do you overload your operators?
In some cases.
By the way people at Stardocks, do you guys use Direct X or

Check in the ATI control panel to make sure that anti-aliasing (or multisampling) and ansitropic filtering are set to application controlled. You may also want to see if you can find updated monitor drivers as Vista doesn't always play nice with the generic drivers. Also, does turning off multi-sampling from the in game menu help?

We decided to do a beta for version 1.5 so that we can test this on more systems than we have here. This should be a very stable beta, but if you're worried, you can archive 1.04 from the orb menu in Impulse. + NEW: Impulse Reactor games + Multiplayer games now listed on the Community tab of Impulse - Join a game without having to launch TPM first! + Clicking on the Create button on the Community tab will launch the game in multiplayer mode so that you ca

One of our testers tried and was able to run TCM in XP32 sp3 with a quadcore, and I installed it today and ran it on my Core Duo with Vista, so it's not a multicore problem. Depending on how old your system is, you may want to read through some of the links in this thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/102033
Do you folks at Stardock do real OOP?
Well, I've heard it argued that C++'s OOP isn't "real" OOP, but I hated that teacher anyway. :) We do use inheritence, polymorphism, templates, etc.

See if turning off multi-sampling helps, and you could also try either running in a window or at a different resolution. Since it's creating screens when it's happening, it could be that a particular file is corrupt, so if my above suggestions don't work, you may want to try re-installing

OK, this is what is happening: The AI personality used by the Drengin, Korath and Yor is not colonizing planets in space where the influence ratio is high enough to cause a defection. So if they started out with a good position, this wouldn't show up as a problem immediately, but as the other races start colonizing planets closer to their space, that would limit which planets are available to them. Since it obviously does hamper their ability to expand, w

So it's official, I'm a Guest at Dragon*Con 2008! I don't think that I mentioned that before, although I've known that I would be a Guest since about a week after I posted the first article mentioning Dragon*Con. I have been waiting to see what panels I'd end up doing, because they hadn't gotten back to me at all. I finally got an e-mail from the programming comittee with my tentative schedule today (they may st

I'm having someone look into this to determine if it is in fact a bug or if it's something that Brad deliberately coded into that AI personality (which is what it sounds like to me). If it's not a bug that we can fix, I'll have Brad look into it but he's super busy right now.

Ender's Game, anything by Christopher Stasheff, Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series, the Sword of Truth series, Snow Crash, The Song of Fire and Ice series. The Wheel of Time series. I liked Anne McCaffrey until she turned Pern over to her son Todd.

The more snow you get in the winter, the better developers you have in that area. That's the lesson I learned from the pattern in which universities were in the top 10 for the ACM programming contest every year. If you're stuck inside from tons of snow, good time to code. :)

First, try checking for new video drivers at www.intel.com Also, update to 1.04 as it fixes some memory issues, but you will probably still want to increase your virtual memory. To increase the amount of Virtual Memory available to Windows: 1) Right click on the My Computer icon and chose properties 2) Click on the advanced tab 3) Under performance, click on the Settings button. 4) Click on the advanced tab 5) Click o

I'm sorry that this is so late in coming but the icon-only mode to help people with slower computers turned out to be more complicated than we initially thought. We actually had to disallow it for multiplayer (temporarily, I hope) because the scale is not correct in multiplayer games if both playrs aren't using icon mode or normal mode. + New: Candidate Pieces Added + Ears (Pierced, Elf-Like, Sideburns) + Bodies (Robe, Overalls, P

The government doesn't need to regulate this sort of thing. If you want to go out and you want to know the nutritional information, look it up on-line. If the restaurant doesn't have the nutritional information posted and will not give it to you if you write to them, just don't go to the restaurant. Also, counting the calories isn't enough to eat healthy, although it is a good start. As someone said, a 'healthy' option can have the same number of calories as a b
One last thought, while not exactly trying to press another lucky button; Tiles scrambles renaming on surface(s), were you able to find the guilty memory-stack and_or address loop?
Um I think that CodeCritter may have found that bug before he went on vacation but I'm not sure. &

Are you running in 32 bit compatibility mode? Also try running as an administrator. It looks to me as though when it's reloading the data from disk (because it would have initially loaded the data from your save game) that it's not able to find anything, but since you can load the game initially, that would suggest that it works the first time. If you continue to have problems, please e-mail [email protected] &nbs

There is a maximum number of 36 races in the game, therefore the possible race IDs go from 0-35 (inclusive). The race IDs are as follows: Major Races - There is a maximum of 13 major races and their race IDs must be between 0-12 inclusive. 0 Terran 1 Drengin 2 Altarian 3 Arcean 4 Torian 5 Yor 6 Korx 7 Drath 8 Thalan 9 Iconia
