There's a big lag opening the colony list when it's really long. Interestingly, there's no lag the first time it's opened after a game load, regardless of how long the list is.
Yeah, it's creating all the entries the first time. After that it only has to update it if you colonize another planet or destroy a colony, etc. so all it does is unhide it. I could maybe pre-create the entries since I'll know how many planets there are at the beginning of the game,

I cleaned up the thread because there were a lot of old or redundant reports. There are a few in here (text bugs) that I've fixed for the next update, but the rest are all old and have been fixed for awhile or are not reproducible. It's not just one bug. The missing turn button is (usually) a symptom of problems in the pathfinding/hit detection code and I've been fixing them as I come across them. If you haven't been sending in your zipped save games then you have no right to complain, and if you have, I will get to it, I promise. At any rate, take a chill pill and remind yourself that THIS IS A BETA.
You also fixed the weapon graphics, thanks! Don't know why it's not in the changelog.
I forgot to include it because it wasn't in an e-mail. :) Whenever we commit our changes to the project, we send out an e-mail to everyone on the team listing our changes and any other pertinent info, and I use those e-mails to make the change log.
Update is up now.
We were still having issues with the servers yesterday. We'll see how today goes. Sorry about the wait.
This is mostly a quick fix update. Sorry for the delay in getting it up, but we've been having server issues. If you have trouble getting it, try switching your server to US-1. + NEW: Terror Stars are now removed from a fleet when the fleet is used to attack a star + NEW: Added new option "Move Terror Star Fleets Away From Star Attack If Possible", which is ON by default. + When this option is on, if you use a terror star in a fleet to at
We'll re-update the files when we put up the fix for the invasion crash, but I guess we're still having technical issues so I can't say when it will be. Just keep an eye on the forums, or you can hang out in #galciv on irc.stardock.com if you want something a little more interactive than hitting F5 on the forums. :)
I ran into this yesterday and fixed it; it was a bug in the AI's patrol code. So the next update will have it.
Please install SmartException from the Free Stuff tab and send in the report that it generates when the game crashes to
Just a quick question: Is this version compatible with saves from beta 3D? Thanks!
It should be.
I'm playing this new beta with a save from the previous, and I can't progress now. The game crashes every time I try to move to the next turn. screen turns black "We are sorry, has crashed. Would you like to send an error report". This is happening at the same point consistently, and making it completely imposssible to progress. I was really enjoying t
The Thalans and the Altarians are finally in the beta. They're going to need tweaking, but we figured that we'd give them to you anyway. And before you ask, yes, most of the buildings that the Thalan start out with ARE supposed to be galactic achievements. Read the tech descriptions. :) + NEW: Thalans are now enabled + NEW: Altarians are now enabled + NEW: Planet Improvements: + Shrine of Tandis + Social Matrix + Churc
the command line parameter to force software vp mode is SOFTWAREVP.
Kenneth, looks like that save game is toast. It's crashing while it's trying to load a ship, which probably means that something got messed up while saving, or the AI tried to save a destroyed ship. farwalker2u, you either need to update or re-install GalCiv2 and all its components because you're missing files.
Out of sample handles is an error from the Miles Sound System. There are no initialization errors from Miles, but there's obviously something goofy going on. Are you playing any music in the background, and if so, from what program? It could either be an incompatibility with the sound driver or a bad sound codec. Are all your media player programs the Vista version, or are any of them from XP?
If you have trouble running GalCiv1/Altarian Prophecy in Vista, use Windows explorer to find the exe files and right click on them, choose properties, click on the compatibility tab, and tell it to run in Win98 compatibility mode.
You'll need to e-mail for a refund, but we don't give refunds on pre-orders, so you would probably have to wait until TA comes out. In the meantime, do you have one of those Targus chillmats that plug into your USB port? I had to use one when I had a Toshiba laptop or it would constantly overheat and reboot when I was playing games.
Hmmm...I don't remember that bug at all. I fixed a lot of problems with the ship design and upgrade design problems for 1.8 in DA.
If you are getting out of memory errors in Twilight of the Arnor, please post here ONCE with the system info and game version copied from your debug.err and your galaxy settings. I want to be able to compare people's information all in one spot. You should also zip your most recent save game where this occurred and send it to along with the debug.err file attached. Thanks!
Hey all, I just wanted to let you know that we're not going to be able to put up the beta today. After being off for the last two weeks, we've all been busy playing catch up this week. We should be able to put it up tomorrow, but I'll update this thread if we need to push it back to next week.
If you don't have text in the subject line or body, that might cause it to get rejected. Occasionally the gc2bugs e-mail gets stuck if someone sends in a really large file, but new e-mails still make it to the server.
It's on our reported bug list that we edit ourselves. We don't have the time to reply personally to every thread on the forums. We made the sticky threads for the reported bugs for that purpose.
Fixed for Beta 3D: + Wrong ability tag used on some techs ([link=" https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=421&aid=169590"]Link[/link ])
On the XML side of things, I'd like to point out that InfluenceAbility is used instead of CultureAbility a couple of times in the tech trees, resulting in those techs (Xeno Persuasion, and I think Kyrnn Jihaad, and maybe a couple others in the Kyrnn tree) not giving the
So, I'm not the only one who said, "Hey cool, the beta is 3D today!" am I? :) The Thalans and the Altarians are not enabled for this beta as was previously scheduled because they are going to be wicked cool and with all the excitement of Christmas we were concerned for your heart condition. This update will also include some of the assets for the Ascension Victory, but it is not yet fully implemented. As a note, please make sure to e-mail your bug reports to <A href="mail
It is possible to get the Out Of Memory error when not saving as well. It just happens the most when saving. GalCiv2 does attempt to determine if there is enough memory available before saving; it saves the size of the previous save game and asks for that amount of memory at the beginning of the next save. However, if it needs more memory, it has to ask for an increased amount, then copy all the currently saved data to the new memory. So if there's not enough room in memory
