None of the ships we are supposed to gain with new technologies seem to show up. I just ended up custom building a bunch as a result, but would be good to have those ships available. I think that when that happens, the tech is only one of multiple components required for the ship type to become available, and not all of the canned shi

Please go to https://www.stardock.com/products/smartexception and follow the instructions there to install and run SmartException. Then, the next time that you get a crash, you can submit the the crash log.
Use load save game instead of continue game and select AutoSave. If you get a crash when trying to load a save game, please send the save game to [email protected] As noted in the thread "All beta testers read this", you should install and run SmartException to help us track down crashes.
Can you please send me a copy of your debug.err file running with the software cursor? [email protected]
If you are not seeing the beta in SDC, go to Tools->Settings->Internet and change your server to the California server.
While you're waiting, you can connect to irc.stardock.com with SDC or another chat client and /join #galciv to chat with me and Gal Civ 2 beta testers.
The post where Brad said that it would be posted at 5 ALSO said that it might be late. We are currently working through some technical issues on the server end.
Then come in #stardock and chat with me.
I've just been informed that there are some technical difficulties on the server end, but you should have the beta very soon.
You could always Check for Application Updates obsessive compulsively.
Hmm....maybe it needs a few more minutes before it shows up outside the building.
Gah, don't even say stuff like that, people will believe it. It's up now.
Go to the folder where GalCiv2 is installed and go to the data folder. Open prefs.ini in a text editor like notepad and set Fullscreen=0.
I don't know what ftw stands for, but BoundsChecker wasn't helping. You can read my dev journals if you want further details.
You're obviously able to create a Direct3D device...can you run in a resolution higher than 1024x768? You could try setting your color depth to 32 bit color and running in a window.
The message in the debug.err file referring to dxdiag info is one of GalCiv2's debug messages. That specific message is reported if dxdiag fails to initialize. Specifically, I call the functions that run dxdiag every time that GC2 loads and output some of that information to the debug.err file if the functions execute successfully. I don't run all of the tests that dxdiag does, though, because that would take too long. I only run the ones I really need. I'll take a
Umm, it shouldn't have affected Political Machine, and I don't know about the non-Stardock games. Do Disciples II and Celtic Kings access the internet at all? If so, the problem could be related. If you have a firewall at home, or you're using a router, try turning off Windows XP Firewall before starting AP and see if that makes a difference. My router has a firewall and if I run both it and Windows XP firewall, really weird stuff starts happening like I lose
LOL that's just cool. Although, if my mother ever started playing WoW I think I'd die of shock.
, yep, that's actually a pretty good translation.
We've been pretty busy here getting ready for Beta 3. The game has come a long way since Beta 2, and we still have miles (or should I say, milestones) yet to go. For the last two weeks, my primary responsibility has been fixing and tweaking stuff. One of the bigger issues that we've been dealing with almost since we started working on GC2 has been the load time.
GC2 has to have acceration turned on though, I think. It does a check at the beginning and will pop up a message if you don't have it turned on.
It concerns me that dxdiag is reporting that you only have 248 MB of RAM and that it wouldn't run from within the game. I suggest that you un-install directx and get the latest version from the microsoft directx homepage. Also, you should run the Direct3D tests in dxdiag once you have directx re-installed.
Incidentally, is that CariElf singing in the theme song? LOL, no.
Can you switch you desktop to 32 bit color and try running GC2 then?
It's not precisely a crash; the game shuts itself down when that happens. You can run in a fullscreen window and you can still do things like edge scrolling, but you won't have a problem using Alt-Tab.
