n uvem, thanks for those link. Those look like they might come in handy.

It could be a problem with your sound drivers. Try the suggestions in the thread entitled Sound Problems/Frequent Crashes Troubleshooting and see if any of those help.
If you're having trouble loading your own custom maps, try holding down the shift key while saving your custom map and see if that makes a difference. Also, if you are replacing files in the campaign, make sure that you are using the same filename that is specified in the campaign file (you can check using the campaign editor).
You have to update both GalCiv and Altarian Prophecy to play Altarian Prophecy. Stardock Central is the best way to install and update GalCiv and Altarian Prophecy.
Are the crashes happening when you try to start Altarian Prophecy, or can you get to the main menu?
Programer88, if you have registered your copy of GalCiv with us, you can retrieve your serial number using Stardock Central by going to Tools->Lookup serial number, and an e-mail will be sent to you with the information.
We were able to reproduce the crash on one of the machines here and it seems to be related to the dlls that GalCiv uses to submit scores to the internet: DartObjects.dll, DartSock.dll, DartWeb.dll and SDNetLib.dll. We are working on a solution. If you have an archive of Altarian Prophecy right before the July update, so it's still 1.52, try reverting to that version and see if that fixes it.
jmgarth, does it crash immediately when running AP or does it make it to the intro movie? Are you starting from SDC, a shortcut, or the autoplay thingy?
Being Roman Catholic, I was raised to believe that sex with anyone other than your spouse is a sin, that birth control is a sin, and that abortion is a sin. These days, I still believe that abortion is wrong, and sexual infedelity is wrong, but my thoughts about pre-marital sex and birth control are not so clear cut. When you're a child, your parents tell you not to touch the oven because it's hot and you might get hurt. A child could touc
Logistics will cap the fleet size, but I don't know how big that cap will be yet. I believe it will be no larger than 100 per fleet. However, based on logistics and maintenance, your fleets may not get to be that size.
The weapons will look different. Beam weapons will look like beam weapons, and mini-balls will look like mini-balls, etc. As you research better beam weapons, the graphics will change to reflect that. Also, I did not say that they wouldn't move.
Did the store give you a discount because you were teachers? I think that both Barnes and Noble and Borders will give teachers discounts around here. You just have to show proof that you're a teacher. Jo Ann Fabrics will also give discounts to teachers.
you poor Catholics and your repressive tendencies On the other hand, I don't have to worry about STDs, unwanted pregnancies, and other undesireable side-effects that can come with pre-marital sex.
I saw an article here Link that shows that some women who date or marry gamers get into gaming in order to spend time with their mate, doing something that he enjoys. So if a male gamer is lucky enough to date a woman who is open minded enough to both not resent all the time he spends playing video games and to consider playing with him because he enjoys it so much, that woman might become a gamer if she
Yep, before setting up the scene, the game will know which ships take damage and/or die, etc. Jesse's code will go through and determine the position of the ships in the battle, the order they fire, etc. and play through the battle. Jesse already has the normal ship battles looking really cool, so I can hardly wait to see what he does with the Scene View Window.
Zoologist03, if it makes you feel better, mine was higher than that at 96%. My excuse is that I'm Roman Catholic.
When last we met our intrepid explorer, er, developer, she was tracking down crashes and memory that was modified after it was deleted. Having slain all the bugs in her path, our heroine has since moved on to more exciting work, development of the fabled Fleet Combat Window. It began as many adventures begin; that is to say, it was pretty mundane. (You can’
I'm addicted to World of Warcraft. I've also heard that there are a lot more women playing World of Warcraft than most popular MMORPGs, but I haven't been able to find any articles or anything to back this up. Mostly, it's been anecdotal evidence chatting with people in game.
until for every game geared toward men there is a game geared for women Gamasutra, which is the website for Game Developer Magazine, has a Question of the Week feature where every week they ask a question and invite the members to give their opinion. Last week, it was about the ESRB ratings and whether
Problem is, problem is... Is there a problem? Is it really that bad. Does it need to be made a problem? Women are viewed as a largely untapped market by many members of the game industry. In capitalism, particularly in areas where your product is not essential to people's lives and/or lifestyles (hous
I hated grade school because I was so unpopular and I see so many things that I don't like about the current education system that I don't know if I really want to put my kids (if I have them) in the same situation. My mother was also unpopular in school and I worry that my kids will be also. On the other hand, though, if my mother had homeschooled me and my twin sister, I don't know that it would have been better for me. I have a lot thicker skin no
I might catch some flak here but I think the big thing that keeps women from being a considerable variable in the game industry is the fact that most women prefer to spend their free time interacting with other human beings No, that's a very valid point. I once babysat for 2 little girls 3 days a week
The problem is that "games are for kids" in most older peoples eyes and even in the younger generation. This perception, however, is changing. There are a lot more of adults who grew up playing games like Breakout and Pac Man and at least some of those people now own X Boxes and PS2s and GameCubes.
Are you sure it was junk and not just an object that looked like junk? Hmmm . . . I've never had to deal with using memory after it's deleted; since I'm still in school I have thus far managed to stay on the stack most of the time. When you start having a lot of pointers to something, it's easier to do, particularly if you're using multiple threa
On Monday, CNN used the furor over the change in rating for GTA: San Andreas to ride one of the game industry's favorite hobbyhorses: why most women aren't interested in computer games. This is something that seems to mystify the mostly male game industry, and the IDGA even formed a Special Interest Group (SIG) called "Women in Game Development" to try and get more w
