There are a couple of gender specific references in GC1 but I tried to make sure that there were as few as possible. Being a girl gamer myself, and the lead developer on GC1, that concerns me also. You will be able to rename your leader in GC2. Right now, the only place you can set your leader name is by editing the race.

If it doesn't fully support DirectX 9 you are probably going to continue to have problems. If you check www.pricewatch.com you should be able to find a newer card that does support it for a low price.

No, you don't need to be connected to the internet to play once it's activated. I don't know if the activation code will be part of the release, but I just checked and SDC will archive the activation record if you tell it to archive the entire application, so that when you reinstall windows and restore the archive, it should just work. Moving it to a new computer probably wouldn't work, but if necessary you can contact support for help activating it on the new computer.</

SDC is set up to do the activation for you during install, but it's currently not working for if you are updating GC2. If you re-install GC2, or archive it, uninstall it, and restore the archive, the activation code should work. If re-installing does not work, please check to make sure that you are using the California Server (in SDC under tools->settings->internet) and that your e-mail address is the one that you pre-ordered GC2 with or used to order your Total Gami

The activation dialog is not asking for a GC2 serial or a TG.net serial. It's asking for an activation key, which we didn't send out, because SDC was supposed to handle the activation. However, SDC is only handling the activation when you install for the first time, not during an update. So you should be able to fix it by archiving, uninstalling, and restoring GalCiv2 using SDC.

SDC handles the activation on new installs so you wouldn't get the activation dialog unless it failed. You're allowed to activate it on a limited number of machines, because we know that people install it on both their laptops and their PCs.

Andrew and IBNobody, I can't reset activation code myself, but if you e-mail [email protected] he will be able to do it for you. IBNobody, it sounds like it managed to activate on our end, but the return signal must be blocked by your firewall. Can you make exceptions in your firewall settings? Anyone who has not tried to re-install, please try that after checking to make sure that your settings match what Frogboy sug

More tips if you still are having problems (although thankfully haven't gotten a lot of reports): 1. Make sure that your galciv2 records are under the same email as your stardock.net one 2. Make sure that you have SDC build 86 installed (check under help/about, reinstall SDC if it won't update). 3. If it wants it, activate.exe is allowed access to the net to do the registration on updating to the new build

Like my teammates, I took some time to look back at what we've done since the last beta, and we have accomplished a lot. There are a ton of fixes, and a lot of screens. And the Gal Civ team is moved into the new office! It's beautiful, and very comfortable. We have a few technical difficulties created by having most of the equipment and people still at the old offi

I'm trying other matchmaking sites as well, and been to a couple of speed dating events, but I haven't had a lot of success yet. At least with the geek 2 geek site, you know that you have some things in common with the other people on the site. I want to date someone who can be my best friend as well as my boyfriend.

Yeah. Once they get all the bugs out, it will be great. I thought of something regarding the lack of any way to make money. While there aren't a lot of people on the site, they can build up a user base more quickly by not charging. So it's probably kind of like a beta stage at this point. Trillian was free for a long time before a pro version appeared. When I checked at lunch today, I had 3 messages from guys. <img src="../images

Furry Canary, We tried to reproduce the effect of making the chair rock by opening the door, but it didn't happen again. The chair is not directly in line of the door, and it wasn't particularly windy. I could probably set up a physics equation to determine the force required to make the chair rock from that direction, but I would need a way to determine the mass of the rocking chair. However, I think that it is unlikely that it was caused

Zoomba happened to mention Geek 2 Geek in the #joeuser chat room on irc.stardock.com earlier today, so I went there and filled out a profile. A few of us in #joeuser have said that there really needs to be a way for geeks to find other geeks. I've even discussed starting up my own service, since I'm frustrated with the ones that I'v

There have been quite a few times when I have been talking with a group of people and somehow the conversation will turn towards "ghost stories." Every time, there was always someone who had an experience for which they could not find a mundane explanation. I myself have had a few unusual experiences. Inevitably, there are skeptics in the group who, even given the

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I've been spending a lot of time at my Grandmother's house, and she seems to be doing well also. My grandfather's sister has been staying there, so she hasn't been alone in the house. One of my youngest cousins, who I think is 8, was going to his friend's house down the road on Thursday. His mother went out to watch him go as she usually does and he told her, "Don't worry. You don't need to watch m
