actual game engine. That way, you can completely change the graphics without affecting the core game.
It took me longer than I would have liked to work on the save game code this week, and I don't even have it hooked up to the interface yet. However, I was finally able to save a game and load the data back in without crashing. The save game code itself is mostly the same as it was in GC1/AP, but I had to go through and update the places where new data types were add
Well if there's a version 1.2 on the german site, I don't think that's any older than the one that's currently on our website, and you'll probably want to continue to play with the translations. You can use Stardock Central to update the German version, but then you may have English mixed in with the German. You don't really have to worry about someone getting your serial number through either Stardock Central or the website.
I'm using a windows API to get that folder path, so it should pick it up. You'll have to let me know if you have problems.
Yes. You should be able to use DesktopX to mod the UI. The minimap is a specific case where we would need code to make it work both as a square and as a diamond. It wouldn't be a high priority, but it may well be worth doing.
the first beta before do it though, and you really should try it before you make up your mind to hate it.
But is that not what Cari just said we cannot do any more.
No. I said that you can't have two Stardock.net accounts submitting scores. But if you want to start over from zero, you can just change the name that you submit with and register that one as the name that you're using. Your old scores would still be there but they would not calculate with your new one. I don't know yet what is going to happen to the metaverse when GC2 is released, and there won't
I agree. Cities shouldn't be able to force residents to sell as long as the house isn't actually blighted. If the houses were actually in disrepair and dangerous, then maybe they'd have a case, but they would have to adequately compensate the homeowners. If they want everyone to move out, they need to provide good enough incentive.
For the first one, no, two versions of the movie went out with the game and only one of them has sound. Rename mini_FreighterBlownOut.bik to something else, then rename mini_FreighterBlown.bik to mini_FreighterBlownOut.bik and you'll have the sound. For the second, I would need a screenshot of your Domestic Ecomony screen to tell you what was going on.
The sum of your scores is divided by the square root of the number of games that you submitted. So with it showing only your games that were played on huge maps, yes, that would be higher.
I would think that Stardock Central would be better for downloading with a dialup modem because it supports file resume. Why don't you want to install Stardock Central? You'll get the latest version, more current than the standalone patch, and it will detect the files that you already have downloaded and only install the updated ones.
If you still have problems you can e-mail us and we'll see if we can figure out what the problem is. The correct e-mail in this instance would be
Unfortunately, I didn't write the code that sends the data to the metaverse, and the person who did (a) did not put any kind of feedback in it and (b) no longer works here, so I can't give you any useful feedback. If you e-mail me your player alias, your name here on the forums, the e-mail address you use when submitting, and your serial number, I can look you up in the database.
Ok, I had to talk this one over with Brad because I wasn't sure what our official position was on this. First of all, it does say on the metaverse registration page " You can only have 1 player name registered at a time," although this is refering to the player alias that you submit under rather than a Stardock.net account set up with another alias and the same serial number. I have, as someone mentioned, given out directions on how to have multiple acc
be able to change it.
We use C/C++ and DirectX. GalCiv1/AP used DirectDraw7 and GC2 is using DirectX 9.0c.
Yes, you will get a screenshot of the Research screen today! Yay! But first, a few other things that I worked on: 1) A feature that I know that you'll all love, I made the trade offers right clickable. Right clicking on the items in the offer lists will bring up some kind of popup with info about the item. I forget who suggested this to me, so I can't gi
t people really do recognize them as placeholders. I'm more worried about placeholder text getting into the game.
We'll probably provide a few custom images to choose from and then you can add your own from your computer. We'll have a section of the library where you can download images and upload your own. If you can locate and move files with FileExplorer you'll be fine. If not, maybe we can make a widget with DesktopX to help.
The most visible thing that I worked on this week was the Trade Screen. It's going to be pretty much the same functionality as in GC1 and currently it's only using filler gfx, so I'm not going to post a screenshot for it yet. Apart from needing the new graphics, it's pretty much ready to go. However, you will be happy to know that the popup dialog for money and i
to fine tune it. And depending on how many modules you can fit on a colony or transport ships, I was thinking that I could make the button values change to be -1000 and +1000 if necessary.
A lot of the work that we've been doing so far has been work that previewers need to see. Now we have to get a lot of stuff in that has to be in for the beta. Up until now, the economy has been the same GC1 economy. Next week, we'll be starting to implement the new economy based on the new planet system. So I got the domestic economy screen working. There's a bug
Edit: this was last week's journal but it ended up under the wrong topic somehow. Well, last we were all hysterically busy getting ready for Brad's media tour, which went very well. This week we were breathing a little easier, but we were still doing some clean up because it became apparent last week that we were being a bit sloppy with handling our resources.
