Just have to say my piece. As artists we beg for people to comment and to give constructive criticism. If everyone just says 'Ooh. It's fantastic.' and don't constructively criticise we'll never grow. Tombala has done just this. He doesn't just say 'this sucks' and walk away, first he says he likes it and then he states politely and descriptively what he sees as something that gets in the way of him using the cursors all the time and as a general improvement and you turn around and throw i

The MCP's job (at the moment) is to stop you seeing the classic windows interface and then seeing the skins applied to it in the background. It should pop up a loading screen instead and switch back to the actual desktop once all the skins hav been applied. Currently you have to tell Objectbar and/or DesktopX to load at startup before it will doe this. Once you have set this up on next reboot you should see the MCP doing it's thing. Having said this it is very early days yet and bugs

Personally I think there needs to be a bit of both. I like a desktop that looks great but also lets me get to what I need to. Been playing with some of the cooler aspects of DXScript over the past two weeks. Discovered there's some very interesting stuff you can do without a huge lot of programming experience. Of course for the really cool stuff some programming experience is very useful There is an extr

/me wonders why Outtahere is totally reinstalling everything. WB is highly unlikely to have caused any problem that is not easily fixable (provided you know what you are doing) as it doesn't run at a kernel level. If you don't know what you are doing then why don't you ask before bad mouthing the beta software? There are a lot of people who would have been only too willing to try and troubleshoot for/with you. <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/index.asp?Cmd=full&NewsID=913

OldCrab: Are there two East Grinsteads? The only one I've heard of is in West Sussex. My Mum comes from near there so we drive through it every time we visit people down South. HuronJoe: It's cockney rhyming slang. Trouble and Strife rhymes with wife - Never heard this used by anyone except on TV Apples and pears rhymes with stairs - Never heard this used by anyone except on TV China plate rhymes with mate -- This I have heard people use. HuronJoe: Transitions mainly. Turn on shadows and try and do a transition. Major pause or ugliness. Also doesn't like shadows and transparency at the same time. Nvidias drivers are the main reason the launch of WinFX 2 was delayed so long. Stardock had to write a routine to get around it (hence the fallback mode). Paxx: It's useful for windows that refuse to move and you still need to see what's below them. Also for windows where you need to see what's going on but don't necessari

I remember the jerusalem B virus very well. After 30 mins it would move a block of text on screen up by two lines and slow the 8088 it was on to half speed. 4 Mhz in Wordstar was not fun. I never got the one where the letters fell off the screen but I always wanted that one. The other one I wanted to see was the Magistr vius. Makes all your icons run away from the mouse. Sadly I got to see it on my parents PC after it had emailed about 300 emails to who knows where. My Dad thought I was c

Actually Paxx it's usally better to ask after you have the finished article or at least a mock up of it. In your scenario it would be too late for adni to cancel his permission. If you were unscrupulous you already have his permission and could upload it wherever you liked no matter how bad it sucked with his permission text attached. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle"

adni18: Apologies for laughing. Anyway back to the topic: I just do not see the difference in someone doing a port of someone else's skin and doing an extra bit for WB. It's still taking someone elses work and tweaking it before putting your name to it. I would also say it's more work to add XP+WB4 features to an older WB skin than to do a port to say DesktopX. To reiterate: Yes I want something in WB that can use skin patches. No I don't want the process to be opt-out. I

As a someone who has created their own skins and also updated someone elses skin (ThredzWB by dangeruss) I have to say I think skin patching is a great idea. As long as it is regulated and that skinners opt into it. I would welcome the work someone would put in updating my skins to the latest features. I just haven't got the time to do it myself. Also you get bored of looking at the same skinall the time. Skinning can be an exhausting process that by the end of it you just don't feel like d

It sounds like when you installed WB through SDCentral it did not keep the same directory structure as before. Hence it is showing the contents of a new windowblinds folder not the old one. To test that just do a search for windowblinds on your pc. You can either unisntall and reinstall after seeting the paths in the config of SDC or move all your skins to the new location. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images

If it truly is the message store then it may be a corrupt file. Outlook Express stores it's messages in files (representing folders) with extension .dbx Try a search for these and once you find ones that seem to match with what newsgroups you have set up you could try moving them into a different folder temporarily. Then restart OE. If it still complains then OE probably needs repairing/reinstalling If not you could try moving them back in with OE closed and restart

Alternatively if you see a name mentioned but they haven't actually posted a message you can click the library link on the left and put their name in the box at the top to search for all their stuff.
