Thank you for your reply! Avoiding wars could be the answer for me to play bigger maps without being bored. Unfortunately I am particularly fond of a good shootout but I could change my pace for variety. That what's so good about the game, it can be played in a variety of ways. My point being that much of the obstacles I find overwhelming when trying to play larger maps could be fairly easily eliminated. Merry Christmas to you All!

Hi, For the last few days I have played a Crippling-Huge setup and it has been a lot of hard work. But not hard work in a good way. Don't get me wrong, I love Galciv and it has been a special favourite of mine since Galciv on OS/2. I feel that I need to vent a little. You are doing a great job, but I feel that some minor improvements would greatly benefit my gaming pleasure. However, I find that I'm spending 90% of my time manually sending ships here and there, changing Rally

In my last game I built a Death Knight before a Battleship. However, the Battleship video "..capital ships...new ear in warfare..." or something like that did not show until I built a Battleship. One would think that it would appear when the first capital ship was built. A very minor and insignificant bug. :-)

I have been a Stardock customer since Object Desktop for OS/2, so I guess that I am spoiled with excellent support. But CariElf does indeed seem to rise above even the usual high Stardockian standard. Thanks CariElf!

I have archived the latest version and burt it on a CD together with the stardock central install file, as suggested. Thank you very much for your help! I registered the game to a new email address (thank god for free webmailers). I assume that it is possible to change the email address later on if he wants to. Thanks again! ~SDC~

Hi, I am considering giving a copy of Galciv to a friend as a gift. This friend does not have a fast connection to the internet. What I would like to do is to buy Galciv (in his name) using my own credit card and download the entire game to my hd (preferrably in a zip file), burn it on a CD-ROM and then being able to give him the CD and the serial number for him to use. It's fairly urgent so shipping the CD to Sweden is not an option. Is it possible? How would

I'm a bit lazy and I do not have the time to read through this entire thread today. Please excuse me if this has been reported earlier. In my current game, in the "Foreign Policy" screen, "Stats" tab, the overall ranking calculations do not seem right. Three alien races are in sixth place and two in fourth. I am the uncontested leader but it does seem a bit odd anyway. :)

Hi, I have a small grief with Galciv while playing on the laptop. I really miss my keypad which allowed me to move ships "diagonally". I do not seem to be able to do that checking NumLock and punching the corresponding digits. Am I missing something obvious? If I'm not, would it be possible to configure other keys to be used for directional control. I detest having to use the touchpad for this and it makes me a less time efficient galciv player. :-) Best regar

Hmm... I use my 15" LCD on my laptop running at 1400x1050 in galciv windowed mode without any problems. I would run Galciv in black and green on a pure text display if I would have to, it really is of very little importance to me. I feel that the development funds are better used elsewhere than for pure eye candy. Best regards Andreas

I will go to masochistic as soon as the expansion pack is out! I can't stand tedious micro-management and I see rally points as a real exciting addition. My "crippling - huge" was a fairly easy win but going to war was a real bore having to micromanage all ships. Mm... To be able to play gigantic galaxies!

I use the exact same strategy for my games and it works fine on crippling as well. There is a possible window of misfortune when you are trying to catch up on military and research but I have not yet failed to do so. In my next few games I'm going to either try masochistic (where I guess that the AI bonuses will make this strategy a bit harder to employ) or try rushing my neighbours. I usually never pick a fight unless I am sure to come out on top. :)

I have experienced some random crashes when using galciv in windowed mode 'galciv.exe w' and SmartException were running in the background every crash. However, I do not know how SmartException is supposed to work. It opens an empty window and nothing else. Klicking "Submit exception report" does nothing and "Open log directory" opens c:\ root. Is there a manual of some kind? Or a brief introduction?

I for one would be interested in how many games were submitted and by how many people. Being 200 something doesn't mean much when you do not know your relative rank. :-) Why not a metaverse overview page containing number of submitted games, number of players, etc, etc? Best regards /A

Played my first game at a large galaxy with normal opponents (I'm not that good yet, finding the game more challenging than the OS/2 version). The playing experience was just plain awesome! The playing field was levelled between altarians, arceans, drengin and myself and finally managed to win a massive cultural victory by securing 5 influence resources. The game is so well-balanced that most paths are viable! For the first time ever I realized what a valueable resource the mi

I played it on a Celeron 300Mhz and 256 mb memory and I played a large galaxy without much problems! At the end of the game (many ship movements) it would take about 30 seconds for the computer to do its moves. I don't see that as much of a problem, put if you are lacking in patience you could play a smaller map och upgrade somewhat. :)

Well, my last few games I have started "suprise attacks" by building star bases with military improvements in enemy territory. After I am satisfied with the attack/defense bonus outlook I have placed fleets in striking distances of enemy star systems often deep within enemy territory. The buildup usually lasts for 10-20 turns and a AI more "real" would probably object to my military presence. Perhaps it does so on the higher levels of difficulty? I have only played normal.
