I've fired off a very polite e-mail to NEC/Mitsubishi, so hopefully they'll be able to offer some assistance. I'll also be talking to the bank in the next couple of days to see about getting the money back until the problem is resolved. It's a shame that companies such as ebuyer offer such poor service, as it only serves to give online retailing a bad name.

Yes I did. The money has already been taken from my card. I paid with VISA, and if I don't get any joy by the end of the week I'll be talking to the bank about getting the money back. I doubt I'll be able to though, as they delivered the item. I think you're only entitled to make a claim if you don't get the item you're paying for. I don't think that includes receiving a faulty item.

As some of you will already know, last week I purchased a 22" NEC-Mitsubishi monitor from an online retailer called 'ebuyer . com'. After setting up the monitor, I discovered that there were slight, but noticeable geometry problems with the picture. Flickering is caused by using too low a refresh rate. All you need to do is raise the refresh rate in Display Properties and the flickering will go away. If you can't raise it any higher, then it's probable that you're using too high a resolution for your monitor. 32 bit colour has been around for a long time now. Modern graphics cards offer the option of 256 colours, 16 bit or 32 bit. If you're only offered 24 bit as a maximum you've probably got a pretty old card. In general,

Well the company I bought it from are still yet to respond to my request for a replacement, so nothing's changed just yet. So long as the geometry problems aren't there in all of them, it's a mighty fine monitor. The sharpness is pretty incredible most of the time. I never expected to be able to see the pixels at 1600x1200 on a CRT!

There's no simple way to add sounds to a skin which doesn't have sounds already. The sound is defined in the UIS file for every button on a window individually, so you would need to go through and add the necessary code to each button section by hand. A simpler solution would be to use SkinStudio to do the task, but you would still need to make sure you apply the sound to each button individually. I already use PowerStrip yrag, but thanks anyway. It doesn't actually provide any additional options for modifying the picture beyond the refresh rate and those controls available on the monitor though. I really hoped someone else here might have the same monitor, but it looks like I'm out of luck.

Well I've tried just about every version of the Radeon Catalyst drivers I have at hand, and there's the same problem with all of them. If I had to make a guess, I'd say it's probably something misaligned in the monitor, as reducing the screen area maintains the same visual distortions. If I don't have any luck by Monday, it's going to have to go back... along with my new SerialATA hard drive which has been causing problems too! Fun, fun, fun...

I should also note that I have managed to find a couple of combinations of resolution and refresh rate which reduce the vertical problem slightly. However, they're resolutions which are far too large to be useable on a daily basis, and refresh rates which blur text slightly on screen.

Last week I finally got the 22" monitor I've been wanting for years. It's an NEC-Mitsubishi Diamondtron 2070SB, and when I first fired the computer up I was extremely impressed with the sharpness and brightness of the screen. Use a good graphics program to create the various images and then a text editor or Notepad to pull them all together. There are various tutorials out there if you do a quick search, and the basics are pretty easy to grasp.
