Well it doesn't sound like anyone really thinks it's a good idea. I think what I might do is finish the skin and post it on my site, rather than spreading it through all the skinning sites. At that time I'll ask around and see what people think of it, before maybe posting it on WC at a later date. Bear in mind that my skin is quite a different beast, including all my usual stuff such as color customization and plugins, and it's only really a square black & white chrome skin in a similar

I just thought I'd open this up for discussion as I'm still being poked at for protecting the copyright of my skins over at 'the other place'. I've seen a lot of people talking about William Bart's Mercury skins for Kaleidoscope on the Mac, and his refusal to give anyone permission to port them to the PC. Now, I've long been a fan of his work, at least from seeing screenshots of the skins in use, and I'd like to try and bring the look of those skins over to the PC in some way. However,

On the subject of using pirated software to trial a product before shelling out for it, I'd have to admit to doing the same. Only in my case, it wasn't shareware but rather software that cost in excess of $500 to purchase. I think in a way that's how a lot of graphic designers start out. They use pirated software until they get their first big contract from a client, and then use the money from that job to buy legitimate copies. I'm not advocating the use of pirated software indefinately without

In my opinion, nag screens actually put me off paying out for the full version, as they tend to get in the way of trying out the software properly and so I just use it once and then delete it. I'd say the only things that really convince me to pay for something is if it's so good that I find myself using it on a daily basis, and if it has a trial expiry period that's long enough that I forget it's a trial while using it more and more until the day it shuts down and I realise just how much I need

Well I can't really put it any better than that. :) Well done to everyone who has won something so far, and good luck to all those yet to win. This has been a great contest, and I look forward to the next!

Ruined Inc>> The point is, you DID do well in the plugin event. As I said, you came 3rd out of over 130. If that's not good, then maybe you're just expecting too much. I would understand your upset a little better if you hadn't even placed in the top 5, but as it is you seem to be disagreeing with the fact that the skins by myself and DavidK were placed above you. There's no other way to interpret your comments. As for the fact that two of DavidK's skins shared the same layout and name, that

Ruined Inc>> Remember that out of over 130 skins you placed 3rd in that event. If that isn't something to be proud of, then I really don't know what you wanted from this contest in the first place. If you really find it such an outrage that your skins didn't win gold across the board, then maybe you should at least spare a thought for those people you take the credit away from by complaining about it in public.

DavidK>> Don't let the comments get to you. You'll also remember Ruined Inc complaining that his skin was better than mine in another category, so I've tended to just ignore comments like that now. You did a fantastic job with your skin, and in some ways I think your entry should have placed higher than mine anyway. Well done for getting the silver anyway, and just keep doing what you do so well. :)
