About time too. ;) Let's hope everything goes smoothly now.

I agree Hippy. One of my skins is on there too, and it certainly doesn't support sounds. Are all the skins that DO support sound in the list though? Obviously the judges won't pay any attention to the extra ones.
I have exactly the same problem. I'm currently fighting an internal battle over whether to finish and release v3.0 of tactile - with 18 subskins!! I even lay awake at night thinking of how to skin some little feature...
Ruined Inc>> So Gilla was created for the GUI Olympics then? ;)
weaponzero>> Just to clarify, did you say that you have a copy of the Gilla skin from 2001?
T-Man>> I agree. Have a 'New Submissions' list and an 'Updated Submissions' list. However, I would also suggest putting some kind of time restriction on whether skins appear at the top of the updates list, whereby if a skin author submits their skin again within 7 days (or thereabouts) of the last update it isn't considered an update. This way, only major updates get announced, rather than minor updates which are just fixes to already implemented features.
Ruined Inc>> One notable feature that the two top skins have over your Gilla skin is color customization. I think this goes a long way to making a skin a 'power skin', as it allows the user to have the skin look and work exactly the way they want it to. I actually meant to say 'dinks' rather than 'metalX' when I made my comment before. The similarity is noticeable, but you have made some changes which make the workings of the skin different, perhaps even better. My comment about people using
Bizarre... I just started a thread over on the GUI Olympics site which said a lot of what's just been said here.
By the way, I just want to clarify that I don't have a problem with people using my skins as a starting point for the layout of their designs. I'd just prefer that people use a little more creativity and come up with their own ideas for layout. It's very uncomfortable to see a skin uploaded which is basically a copy of one of my skins with a new paint job, especially if the author then goes on to claim that their skin is better than one of mine.
Can we all just stop arguing about what's already been, and just concentrate on what's to come? I know my skin won three medals, so I'm hardly likely to complain, but all this hostility isn't exactly dignified. The results aren't going to be changed by complaining, and the judges all had their own reasons for voting the way they did, so let's just accept the outcome and move on. There are still plenty of chances to win here, and the prizes only get bigger in the coming events.
Ruined Inc>> I almost kept quiet about this, but I think it has to be said. If you hadn't already seen my metalX skin, would Gilla have included all those features? I've noticed quite a lot of skins being entered late into this contest which haven't even tried to disguise the fact that they used the layout of my skins for a template, with some even being the same down to pixel spacing. Maybe you didn't mean what you said quite the way it sounded, but it came across as a criticism of my skin bein
davad70>> Although I do agree with you that there was a lot of talk of benchmarking and such, there were also several points both in the lead up to and during the contest that it was stated that the judges would interpret the categories how they wanted. In particular, I remember a couple of posts from Frogboy saying that judges may choose to grade skins in this category based on how fast the skin was to use as well as benchmarked speed. I'm not saying I agree with this thinking exactly, but you
I do feel slightly bad for those people putting in the effort to make fast UIS1 skins. To be perfectly honest, I haven't even tried to make a UIS1 skin yet because I like being able to have everything in a skin exactly how I want it. As for my metalX skin being fast, I did spend a lot of time trying to make everything as clean as possible, and I only used stretching in one or two places. However, it was just as much a shock to me when Brad told me how fast my skin was last week. So I'm sorry
treetog>> Well done to you too! :)
Didn't he reverse engineer DOS? (Note: This comment is neither the opinion of this site, or even myself. Cheers Bill.)
Short guy... glasses... able to turn on lights by simply entering a room. ;)
Hard as it is to believe, there was a day back in the distant past when playboy millionaire Bill Gates designed an Operating System. That was before he built his army of robot drones to do all the work for him.
I still don't really understand why it's okay to use other author's objects though. Why do copyright restrictions not apply there?
I think the glass version is different enough in appearance to be considered as a seperate skin in its own right. However, it does raise the issue of submitting several variations on a theme, rather than only submitting unique skins.
Why don't you do some skin themes on NASCAR? That's what skinning's all about. You want a particular skin and it doesn't exist, so you make it.
WinStyles is just a front-end for choosing which themes to use with the various applications, WindowBlinds being one of those applications. On its own, WinStyles doesn't actually skin anything, it's WindowBlinds that you need to skin the Windows UI. Both are available of components of Object Desktop, which also includes a range of other Stardock products and constant updates for those products. Hopefully I've said it a little clearer than the rest. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/i
/me laughs at people calling each other JourneyMan and thinking that's their name
I create the glass effect in my metalX skin as a scaleable vector image in Fireworks. It's basically three ellipses - one for the background shape, one for the top hightlight, and one for the inner reflected highlight. The highlight ellipses are filled with a gradient from white to transparent, while the background ellipse is just a solid colour. Does any of that make sense?
My last comment was a joke drewster. It's well known that WindowBlinds skinners don't like their work being ripped, and tend to rally round when it happens. You're quite right that nobody could 'make your life a living hell' online, and I certainly wouldn't want to start an e-mail campaign toward you, like you asked people to do to me when you couldn't get in contact.
I'd just like to thank both Frogboy and davad70 for bringing to my attention the efforts of one 'drewster2100' to rip my metalX WindowBlinds skin. This person had taken my original skin (or rather, a screengrab) and attempted to convert it over to StylesXP.
