Just spent too much time trying to figure out how to activate my LH on Steam. (I am a Steam newbie) , My screen looked different than what Parrotmath's post showed. No drop down on games to activate LH. But in very bottom left corner (Had to scroll up totally) there was an "add program" After clicking on it and following messages, I did get to screen to activate. now in process of downloading. Maybe this will be of help to someone.

After uninstalling the previous FE beta, I installed the new Beta this morning. Three times when starting a new game while creating world a "FE not responding" message appeared at top. If I clicked on message FE did stop responding and I had to restart. If I ignored message and waited a minute the message disappeared and the new map appeared and game played fine. I played about 20 turns with no other issue before stopping. My laptop is running Vista. Small map 2 opponents. Twice w
The game is fun and addictive great job there Stardock, but at least on my laptop it crashes frequently (maybe every 8 turns or less). So I limited my vote to fair until the crash issues are resolved. Maybe it will never run reliably on a laptop with Vista. With regard to play, biggest complaint is that Beta 5B was sooooo slowwww at the start. I'll download 5C and try that. For UI it sure would be nice at a glance to tell if any units ca
As has been mentioned enhancements to the exploration part to give it more of a "going where no one has gone before" feeling rather than a real estate increase. Imho, the Stardock team has really nailed the last 3X's in a 4X game. Great job!!!!! However the exploration X does not seem to have been given the same extensive effort. Many good ideas have been posted, such as putting the resources or anomolies on class 0 planets, requiring adva
I've been looking for that too, and still have not found it. It was a neat feature in GC1, GC2 has different neat featiures.
In the same subdirectory that holds the save games, delete the *.raceconfig files that were created when you edited the races abilities. The game will create new ones when you edit abilities in the game. iirc there are some downloadable editors that will do his for you. I just use the delete key In the 1.1 beta the population ability starts to have real meaning. It was about worthless in the 1.0 release. Economy. moral, diplomacy, and
I modify races. iirc the miniiarization and logistics are the two that do not change and you can not when changing abilities within a game. However, using a text editor such as "notepad" the raceconfig.xml can be modified as desired to make any of the races be whatever you like. This has been described elsewhwere in the forums and the modding section. Just be sure and save the original so you can go back to it when you want.</fo
I had the same problem in my retail version, even with anti-aliasing off and resolution set correctly. After downloading the upgrade and running in full screen mod the tutorials ran fine. Note: upgarding the retail version has been recommended elsewhere in these forums by Stardock. I hope this helps.
There was a post a few days back by one of the developers explaining how to mod one of the mddable files to do just that. I don't remember when, you'll have to search. I assume this will appear again.perhaps in the metaverse, after the developers have had a chance to catch their breath and recover. I do like your idea.
It did the same on my unit running XP. Ditto on the being hesitant about SDC. I hope the cd arrives soon or there is some other way for the beta testers to download the game. The game is lots of fun.
With the way difficulty levels (map size, intelligence, good vs evil, ablities) are, the game can be set up to be anywheres between too easy to too hard. The trick ,imo, will be to find the right combination of settings to make it be a "perfect" game. And as one gets better the difficulty can be then be increased so that it can continue to be a fun and challanging game to play. ~SDC~
Plus, you can build scout ships (old MOO2 strategy)which wiil let you know what good planets are available long before you can build colony ships to get there. imho, advanced knowledge of good planets is pretty trivial on all except the tinyest of maps. The best use I have seen for Stellar Cartography is as a trade good to raise money. yes, welcome and have fun
After playing beta version of galciv for 2 months and moo3 since its release the following are some of my observations. The biggeset fundamental difference , imho, is that moo3 was designed from the ground up as a multi player game, while galciv was designed as a single player game. If you want multiplayer buy moo3. Us single player types have a tough choice. The old manual for galciv was poor, but adequate for someone who had played this type of game before. The moo3 released

Thanks for the reply. I like that idea of creating a list with gaps that I can fill in as I research new techs. I'll give that a try next game. Let me clarify that point 4. I was thinking more along the lines of a user defined list. (text file?) That a veteren player could input (link to?) based on his own whims(strategy). Not suggesting a predefined within the game list. Perhaps saving the last list when a game finishes, or remembering the list from the last game?
All these ideas sound great. The following are a few ideas/issues to consider for future expanansion/bonus packs. Some of them may alredy be in the plans ,if so, excuse the repitition. 1. A cutscene when victory is acheaved. Just a little something to feed the ego after hours of playing time, and make it hard not to push that start new game button. 2. It would be nice to have a list of discovered planets sorted by class. Using scouts lots of planets can be found, but keeping t
Playing with 9.033 beta in a huge galaxy, the sound turned off in turn 2191 May. After quiting and restarting, the sound was ok, and the the game played fine.
I just finished a game in a huge galaxy, using 9.033. I noticed one thing that I do not remember seeing a post on. The influence graph showed a dip whenever I restarted a game after having quit for a while. It appeared to have no impact on game play. But it was strange at the end of the game when looking at the influence graph and being able to see everytime I restarted. I also noticed on restart a sector with no colonized planets showed zero influence right after a restart, but on the next turn
During my present game, I accidentally started the game while playing a music cd with media player. The music from the cd and the game played simultaneously. When I turned the game sound down, I heard just the cd music, and the game played stabily. Nice. I also noticed that when a messge comes in on aol instant messanger, the game minimizes , and after chatting, I can maximize the game and keep on playing. Great work.
The download of the new beta went perfect, and in a medium size map it has played smooth so far(2187). I did notice that after leaving the foreign relations with the minor races chosen, when I returned the next turn, a picture of a major race appeared. After talking to the minor race and leaving, the picture of the minor race was back. Also the description of the improvement for tristrontium steel , harmony crystals, and galactic stock exchange ended in a double %.
Thanks for the input. I've started a new game and will keep an eye on this.
During my last game using the latest beta, I came across something I had not seen mentioned in the forums. One time after saving and the continueing, the lower buttons on the main screen turnd white with dark symbles on them instead of the normal color. Strange. I had to go back to an earlier save and restart to get the colors right, and was able to continue on. I can send a saved came if you would like. Note: During the same game I noticed several other issues discussed on thes forums,
