What Leto Silvermane is really saying: GALCIV IS NOT FOR ME. Ok, we understand, different people like different games. Please understand most of us like this game, we knew what to expect when we bought it and our expectations were met or exceeded. Discussion of tactical combat in GalCiv pointless. You are looking for another game. Good luck.

Tactical combat would completely ruin this game. GalCiv is Civilziation in space. GalCiv is 100% strategy. Tactical combat as no role whatsoever. There are plenty of games out there with tactical combat, buy one and enjoy. I am soooo glad StarDock was smart enough not to add a feature that belongs in real-time strategy games. Vive la difference! <-- I'm speaking "Freedom".

I don't understand why they have a research cost either. Personally, I don't care about seeing the research costs, and I would like to see the actual military/social build cost. I just played my first full game with your tech tree printing out and wow, the game was so much more fun not alt-tabbing every few minutes. (And SOOO must easier to understand then JavaScout ;p )

Yeah, I hate becoming good, the interface gives me a headache. On my screen it's a lot brighter then that screenshot looks, almost white, even though I have the brightness on my monitor set low (and contrast adjusted). Get to work modders! LOL

LordTheRon: You missed my question. The AI is supposed to react as a real player would. What would a player do if confronted with a superior military. He would find allies. Why is the AI not allying with other races against me? That is my basic question. I have seen plenty of opportunities where like-minding (good or evil) alien races could have allied and posed a threat to me. I have seen cases where aliens WERE allies and on the opposing side (they good, me evil) and th

The AI doesn't seem to know what to do when I have superior military. I did my testing at Normal difficulty (all AI's set to Normal). However, after 6 games I have found the same exact strategy works every time, which a little disappointing even at Normal. Simply keeping my military stronger then any other major civ's will guarantee I never get attacked, at least for 6 games. I never have to fight a battle, I just keep my military strong and build my civ and end up with a cul

I had no problem with it, but as someone who designed GUI's for a living, yeah, it's a poor system. Stardock Central should really be reserved for Dregin.net users and hard care players. The website and game documentation should have clearly pointed people to the website download area and NOT Stardock Central. Some of the folks buying this game don't know what shareware is and don't even know what a .zip file is, Stardock Central is way over their heads. Just my 2 cents.

This game needs a GalCivilopedia, ala the Cilvilopedia in the Civilization line of games, with hyperlinks from wherever a tech or game concept is mentioned. After over 10 games I am still baffled by most technologies, I usually have no idea what I am trading away in diplomacy. Takes too long to alt-tab out of the game and pull up info on a web site just to see what a tech is.

I thought the reason for restricting us to human only was for the story line, but I have to admit I have noticed the lack of story myself. All the random events I have seen would be the same regardless of whether I played human or another species. I think the Alliance tech works as it should. The problem is there is no in-game explanation of why the Alliance option is not available. It would be better to have the Alliance option show up in diplomacy as soon as it's researched. But w

I have noticed this too, and I am running the patched (1.01) with BonusPack 1. Then again, I also noticed sometimes it takes a turn for the bonuses for other "power-ups" to take effect. I will have to test this for morale again.

The Survival Guild (gc_quickguide.html) is an html walk-through of GalCiv and it's concepts, a great resource. This file IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE STARTDOCK CENTRAL INSTALL. The file is in the CD install and the single-file download install. It it NOT posted in the Encyclopedia section of galciv.com. If someone could post this file for those who did not receive it, that would be great.

Every game I quickly reach the point where I have a handfull of built-up planets where I don't want to build more social projects because my ecomny can't afford the extra maintenance costs yet, while at the same time I have a handfull of planets that have just been setting and still need basic social structures (i.e. Entertainment Network). This situation remains true for much of the game, so much of game my social queues sit empty spilling their spending into the void of space. I find
