The only way to combat that situation is setting a turn limit. You give them a planet and they must promise to be a peace with you for 50 turns or so. If they break that peace then they suffer greatly in trust penalties with all civilizations.

I see what you're saying, but that's not really tribute cause you're buying something and getting something in return. Tribute is when you basically force someone to give you something and it only benefits you. Like ending a war for tribute in money or tech per every 10 turns. Sure you'd suffer a penalty towards the race you were paying tribute to, but why would another civilization care? Buying 10 techs for 100/turns for 20 turns is a contract agreement, not tribute.
I agree with the idea of setting a turn limit for tribute. This is much the same way it was done in medieval times when one nation beat another. However, I don't think that breaking the tribute agreement should give you a trust penalty with any other civilizations except the one you broke it with(this only counts for tribute agreements, other treaties would be different). As in real life situations, most other nations wouldn't care if you quit paying tribute to a nation, especially if they were
First of all, let me say that I think this game looks great. The concept behind it seems like a work of art and I can't wait to play it. I have a few questions about gameplay. 1.) When starships attack other starships is it to the death? I'd hate to lose a fleet of 10 ships or so. The option to retreat would be nice, and realistic. Is this in the game? 2.)Do races respect borders? Will they colonize in the same system as me? I realize that they wouldn't respect borders if they
I see, guess I was way off. So I'm to understand that actions through the game choose whether or not you are evil? I though you made this choice during game setup.
I think I know what Eddie S is asking. The example about eradicating a species which gives a bonus to moral on than planet should only do so when you have chosen an evil alignment for your empire. If you chose a good alignment then eradicating the species should be bad for the planet's moral. This is just a guess. Can anyone tell me if I'm wrong or right?
Hmm...diplomacy techs I believe you're saying that either that race has not discovered a hight enough diplomacy tech to know how to talk to a different race correctly, or that my diplomacy techs aren't high enough to accurately translate what they're saying. Maybe I'm way off, but it's a good guess I think. :p
Well, if it's modable then that will be okay, but I'm not that computer literate so I don't know if I would be able to figure it out. :p
I agree, AI is the most important, but I have to say that I need good graphics too, and cool sound. It helps me get into the game so much more. I have MOO3 and I had prepared myself for average graphics, but when I actually saw them...well, some were okay, but the font really ruined the feel of the game. So far, everything I've seen about GalCiv seems good although I'm not sure I like the comical AI responses I've seen in screen shots. "We'll liquify you and spread you over toast", can you imagi
Not a bad idea making an empire more fragile the bigger it gets, but I still want to be able to conquer the whole galaxy. This may seem like an odd idea, but the thing I'd most like to see in a 4x game is a royal family. Since you are the emperor anyway, why not have a character that you give a name to and that person is the emperor. As time passes, he/she will die and one of their children will take the throne. It's kind of like in the Total War games only I like the version of the roy
