Those are some interesting questions LifeWish. I'm thinking about writing an article on stuff i'd like to see added on to galciv and posting it in this forum. There are more than a few elements i've found on this forum that would add depth to the game, but i'm not sure if i should write it pre or post release because, since i haven't played it, i'm not sure what all's in the game. Maybe I could just put a disclaimer up saying "if this is already in the game then disregard, if not, then think abo

Wouldn't your cumulative research total increase in the long run when your class 19 planet replaces those that left to colonize another world by reproduction? So in the long run it would benefit you more to take from another planet to colonize a lesser class planet. right?
midnight louie or obliterator, About how much do you need to colonize in the early game in order to get a stable civilization? I'm looking for numbers here, say on a normal size galaxy. Do you have to worry about colonization so much that it detracts from other elements of the game? Personally in 4x games I tend to not colonize dozens and dozens of planets. Will I have to change that strategy for galciv?
Quote: "Who's to say that is permanent? How many "next turn" clicks until some underground movement collapses your empire? My point is that all victories (other then total genocide of all other races) is theorically only temporary" Actually that doesn't apply when you win the game. We are talking about Liberation by your allies or another race with other motives for doing so. If you have won the game then there is no way another race can liberate any other because they have all been bea
A good 4x game should probably have elements of both macro & micro along with options to turn the A.I. on or off. But in my opinion, people don't want to be the Emperor in realistic terms. They want to be God, and simply use Emperor as a title.
I see your point Solitair, but the reason I'd make slavery a non-evil option is because the way the game is set up. Genocide is evil, but if slavery is evil as well, then no one would be able to play this game going for military conquest and be good because every time they conquered a planet their only options would be evil. This is why I made slavery a non-evil option, but only if your at war. Maybe we could say that slavery is slightly evil if you start the war, but if someone else de
I never decide on a game based on reviews uless it's like a 4 or something, but then again my favorite 4x space game is Ascendancy. I know it's fairly simple but i just love that game. I think the music is the best.
If a system has 2 colonized planets in it, when you invade do you invade the whole system at once or do you invade both planets seperatly? If it's planetary then this means that you can invade just one planet and have two different races with colonies in the same system right?
Is the manual with the game exactly the same as the one on this site, or will it be updated, or will it even come in a hard copy with the game?
70+ billion is a projection made by scientists of today, who like everyone, are prone to make a mistake, or simply can't see the events of our future. Things change and the reproduction rate doesn't always stay the same, so maybe those billions will never get born, who knows?
Good point Obliterator, but let me tell you why you wouldn't always choose genocide. 2 options: 1.)Commit genocide = more alignment towards evil, but no rebellions from alien population (in the long run). Say it takes a 9 to 10 months (turns) to kill off 4 or 5 billion people, during that time you are vulurable to mass resistence events from that planet (since people don't like being mass murdered). But once their all gone the planet is yours. If it gets conquered again then there is no
crap, broken link. heck, i don't know how to do it anyway. maybe all those extra numbers to the side shouldn't be there. Well, if you look at the screens on gamespot, about the 7th page then you'll know what i'm talking about.
HI LifeWish, First of all I can't see anyway the A.I. could come back once you win. If you've beaten everyone then who is left to liberate them? Second, If you conquer one A.I. and eventually lose that planet to another A.I. down the line and they liberate that planet, you probably weren't doing that good anyway. As long as you conquer and don't get beat back by another civilization then you'd be okay, but even if you did lose ground you could still come back. Whether or not an
The point about being culturaly dominated makes it hard to realize a liberated civilization, but a few of you have mentioned realism as an argument to defeat liberation. It actually works the other way. If you thought of it realistically you'd have to have liberation. Why? Even if you were culturaly dominated, in real life there would be some that would remember the "glory days" of what Terran Culture was. But cultural domination is the one thing that makes me iffy about GalCiv. I don't
That's why it should be optional for those of us that do want it. And you wouldn't have to press the turn button, just have it auto play really fast and it would only take 30 sec to a min, but that's only if you want to as well. In the end, it should all be optional.
Well, if you lose it's not like you would have to wait and see if you get liberated. Just have an option to see if you do or restart another game, that way you won't be cheesing, in your definition, and the others that like the option will be happy as well.
Questions for betas... 1.) Do minor races have their own pictures and animations in the diplomacy screen like the major races? 2.) I know there are events, but are there news events? Specifically will I have to check every turn to see if the A.I.s are at war with a major or minor race or will there be some news event which says, so&so has just declared war on so&so? Or has just conquered the(insert name) empire/race? Thanks.
Maybe World War 3 or 4 happened? Plague? Who knows? ;)
In the diplomacy screen you can see pictures of the major races that you talk with. Do the minor races have pictures as well?
You can still lose the game. It's just an option that creates a little more depth, gives it a little more soul. I agree it would probably be hard to program in, but maybe they could skip focusing on getting your civilization liberated and just focus on allowing the gamer to be able to liberate the A.I.s, either way I still think both ways would be great as well as an option to build a Mothership somewhere down the line, but that's just me. Well, and maybe a few others ;)
Perhaps after your game has ended with you being conquered you could have an option to have it quick autoplay the game to see if you get liberated by an ally, if you do, then you're back in, if not then game over, and it could only take a min or so to find out, if your back in then it could give you a situation report so that you know the state of the galaxy much like when you return from a saved game. I think the more important factor is your empire liberating another civilization, maj
Not just the idea for getting yourself into the game, but to get an allied A.I back into the game as well. Liberation should be something the devs should look into. :)
Wow, that's a damn good idea. I think we should get everyone together to support this for an add-on!! :)
Thanks all, much appreciated :)
Please....betas, devs, help me out here :sniff!: Thanks.
