Been busy with stuff and I haven't played or submitted a game in almost 2 weeks. Checking back today I noticed my score has jumped about 20K+ since when I last submitted a game. Pretty sure I was around 115K last time. I had expected my score to have dropped. Around the start of Sept. was when I started playing Maso regularly so I am thinking it is to do with the 30 day block calculation. And that my lower scoring games prior to that have less effect? What do you guys think. I think th

Well done to Blusteel, ric and stydracos. Happy to help ric. Bigger congrats to rainbird for managing to play galciv in tight nurses uniform. Now this is dedication.. puts those gigantic maso players to shame. ...and don't feel too sorry for blusteel about never getting visitors. I went 'round there last night with a dozen VBs for a celebration drink. Banged on the door.. no answered but I could hear maniacal laughter from inside. I peeked through the window and saw
Look at Cotal go!! Imagine if Ray and Cotal ran away together and formed their own empire. It would be in the Top Ten just from their scores alone. :) Imagine if they had a love-child. It would be capable of churning out 2 or 3 Gigantic Maso games a day. :sniff!: For awhile though it would just be drooling and taking a dump in it's pants, so we are safe for now. :HOT:
If you ever find yourself accidentally transported into the Star Trek Evil Mirror Universe and did a google on "Brad Wardell and Galactic Civilizations" you would end up with "Derek Smart and Battlecruiser". :SURPRISED: Of course you would also find a gay version Major Kira in a tight leather catsuit, so that's a pretty good trade-off in my opinion. :CONGRAT:
Yep. Definitely leave it for about a minute or two (at least!). It then eventually comes back with a status message. That is with a broadband connection so with dialup it may be even longer.(?)
I originaly posted this in the anzac thread but thought I would put it here as well. Hope you find it of some help. Ok, here are some of my maso tips for fellow ANZACers and anyone else. I play a weird sort of game so don't know if it will be any help or not. First take +2 Speed as a race pick. The leftover points and your party you can pick to suit your style. If I am going for a culture bomb I pick Influence, otherwise I pick Economy or Diplomacy. My party is
Jeff. I don't think anyone thanked you for all the effort in posting your 'walk through'.So I am . Thank you. Strangly enough, it is very similar to what I do at Normal level.
No worries Rainbird. You say you do similar stuff at Normal... then you should definitely give it a go at the higher levels. The only real difference is you have to accept that you will be way behind in the first third of the game. If you can survive until trade is underway and relations are above
Oh well I think I have a date mith a medium sized Map (gulp!) . . . wish we luck this Maso stuff is getting a bit difficult
What Koala said... you should jump straight to Large or Huge, Cotal. More breathing room. I started a gigantic game to day and got completely overwhelmed. :SURPRISED: Hadn't actually run into any AIs... it's just it was sooo biiiigggggg. So many planets, so many stars. Think I will give it a rest for a few days and try again later. <
Don't listen to Lord Orpon. He is talking ca-ca. If you listen to him, there is a danger that the Euros may overtake the ANZACS. You don't want that to happen do you? ....bugger, I think I'm in the wrong thread. :sniff!:
And congrats on your play recently - my comments earlier were not meant to detract from the quality play by you and Cotal, more about what this does to the general feel of the place. I admire anyone who can win at maso!
No worries. I didn't take it that way. :) I agree that maso scoring is maybe a bit too high (or the others have been dropped back too much). You are right about the brownlow. Silvagni's wife - that's Jo whatshername from Sale of the Century,
Ok, here are some of my maso tips for fellow ANZACers and anyone else. I play a weird sort of game so don't know if it will be any help or not. First take +2 Speed as a race pick. The leftover points and your party you can pick to suit your style. If I am going for a culture bomb I pick Influence, otherwise I pick Economy or Diplomacy. My party is the one with Social and Military production bonus. (Can't remember the name). Galaxy type - pick Large/Scattered and probably Unco
Yeah, the only thing interesting about the brownlow's is seeing how many footballers turn up with girlfriends who AREN'T blonde. It seems to be a pre-requisite. Same with cricketers!
Congrats to Cotal. 2nd Spot, Maso... you go girl!! And remember.. Return Of The King is coming out in a couple of months, so maybe Ray will be too distracted watching that to play. Give us a chance to catch up on him! And don't forget the DVDs for Fellowship and Two Towers, Ray. You should watch those a few times before the last movie comes out. ;p Now we just have to keep that nice Victorian lad Wild Wombat distracted.. the grand final is on next week mate. And the Brownlo
We love being under estimated.Gives us a big advantage.
the strategic advantage to us all being daggy. By the time they've stopped laughing at our moccies and ug boots we've blown up all their ships. :)
well done to cotal, newfy and bluesteel. keep em coming :) I've been a bit slack lately . Had a bit of galciv burnout plus my sister visiting from Africa! Once the xpack comes out on tuesday(?) with its score boosting for maso - I'll start trying to pull my weight again.
Good for you! Never give in to the AI's posturing
I give in to threats and demands all the time!! I am The Big Girls Blouse of the ANZAC Republics. Surely I should have a medal for this status or something.
I'm more a World Cup (football) guy.
you da man!! only 3 years to go....
We still havn't decided on a flag but we are sure that we will come to a solution soon
To quote a guy from The Late Show - How about a bum with a big fist coming out of it. (sorry - been watching the dvd again). For non-aus readers - the late show was.... hmmm someone else will have to try and explain it - but it had a guy talking about a flag with a bum with a big fist coming out of it.
Jeff, I see that you play MASO. Do you have any good advice for playing on Medium or smaller maps ? I am trying to win my first MASO but I am having TOO many difficulties.
Hey Newfy, I haven't won on Medium yet. I can give you some great advice on how to get your arse kicked on medium though. :) First advice is to play either Tiny/Small/Gigantic on Maso. They are the "easiest". Medium is the hardest for me. On Tiny or Small take Speed as your race
I also think the diplomacy is pretty good. When you first start playing it looks like the standard 4x AI - declaring war at random, asking for ridiculous amount of money to not attack you. When I first started playing (and up until a few weeks ago) I thought the diplomatic side of it was pretty crap. But now I have got the hand of how to deal with them (gifts, bribes, getting them to atack each other, tech trading etc) - I have done a complete 180 and probably place it up alongside SMACs model (
I use the sector name (11-14) then the specialized project and/position they are doing.
that's a great idea... I will definintely do that next time. thanks.
all in all a very long game.. I don't think i'll be playing very many games on gigantic
mate, know how you feel. might play another one when the xpack comes out just to see how it is, but I found it really overwhelming. from a strategy point of view it was ok, but just couldn't keep track of all my planets, ships, starbases etc. I'll stick to the smaller maps in future!
To respond when when someone says something negative about the books or film
Dungeons and Dragons The Movie is far superior to both LOTR films in my opinion. (So should I put a smiley face here or is it already obvious). Welcome Stupot, Now you do know about the rule stating you are only allowed to post whilst off your face, right?
I still prefer a Party Palace as I get to keep the population and structures. Well worth the extra cost of all those constructors.
Party Palaces rule! Combined with lots of diplomacy, gifts and just generally sucking up, you can wipe out AIs without building a single (high maintenance)ship. So much cheaper, and as you said - you get the planet intact and you can maintain good relationships with AIs you are flipping. And once I have flipped a particular area I just destr
unless brad gives the terror star a speed boost, they will not be of much use in any game larger than Tiny
They do have a very limited use in larger games. My last game was on Gigantic and I was at peace with the Altarians and Yor. They had an alliance. The Yor had lots of planets and a huge military (much bigger than mine). The Altarians had 3 planets that were filled to the brim with Overlords/Avatars/Rangers. I could have destroyed the Altarians over a few turns but wo
