Thanks again Ray. PQ+30 is the scariest one there! Tried out a Small/Maso last night. Thought - woohoo: Military Resource in the next sector, and then saw hordes of AI constructors streaming past me! Kind of gave up and ran away after that. Will go and check out the Maso strats before playing a full game.
Mr Furious4504
Not sure if this has been stated before - but what do the AIs get on Maso and Crippling. I know they get a bonus for Production/Economy, but remember reading there were PQ and possibly Attack/Defense as well? Is their a list somewhere? Been playing Crippling and am about to try a Maso game soon and was wondering what to expect.. apart from humiliating defeat! thanks.
By the way, another question... What do the recalcs entail? I remember Frogboy saying that the higher difficulty levels would generate better scores... but thought that was coming with the expansion pack. thanks again...
However, recalcs should not have the effect of removing any games. The only time I saw games removed is when Stardock deleted games because their scores were too high. Overmodded games are not deleted, they just get anomalous scores.
Ok, thanks for that. Will keep an eye out to see if it reappears. I know I was playing around with the events file a couple of months ago - but pretty sure I put it back to normal. And scores being too high is not something I would
I upload a game yesterday. It was my first Huge galaxy game. It uploaded ok and appeared on my profile. Today I uploaded a Tiny game, and noticed the Huge Galaxy one is missing. I don't have any mods installed so am wondering what happened to it. Thanks.
When we get SC - yellow stars become a brighter white on the minimap. But it is very hard to distinguish b/w these and other stars unless you zoom in. Especially on larger galaxies. Don't know if it's too late for the expansion pack, but would be nice to have a colour that stands out more? thanks
What settings are the AIs on? If they are on Incredible may give it a miss :). If they are Genius or lower I will give it a go. thanks.
The more powerful event is rare even at the highest levels.
I get it semi-regularly. Haven't really kept track though. But, as you said - it always happens to a weak race, so I actually like it as it balances things up more. Does it ever happen to a powerful or mid-level race? Or is it set to only happen to the weaker ones? Thanks.
Haven't played or visited here for awhile so sorry if this has been discussed already. Been playing the last couple of days - the first time with the latest version. I am finding the ai is declaring war much more readily than before. I have been playing on Genius/Large/Abundant same as always. Before I could avoid war by doing the following: Morally aligning myself with the Good AIs. If I selected ALL good colony choices in the past - the Altarians were always at least Neutral w
Hi I submitted a game this evening and got the "successfully submitted" message - but it hasn't shown up. The first time I had the wrong alias - so resubmitted with the correct alias. I got the Successful Submission message with both aliases though. thanks.
I was wanting to give this a try but had a question re:Ironman mode. Are you meaning don't reload when something bad happens etc. (which I don't do) or are you meaning play the game straight through. I am assuming you mean the first - but wanted to clarify as I want to play with the same conditions as everyone else. GOTM is a great idea by the way. A cool future one would be a single sector (or single system) challenge on a tiny/small map.
too true and good advice. I hadn't ever paid much attention to that side of things (empires, scores, metaverse etc) but was checking out a few of the empire threads for the first time last night and all the general chit-chat and stuff it seemed like good fun.
Just joined up and was having a very quick squiz at the messages in this thread. The first one I saw mentioned Misty Hymen in hot swim wear!! Yep - definitely joined the right empire! ok - back to playing galciv.
thanks for the help CM and SW! Glad to hear it is not averaged out as didn't want to be dragging scores down. Joined up with the ANZACS and will check out the threads. thanks!
Haven't really followed too much of the empire/metaverse stuff - but it looks like a good laugh so was wanting to join up with one. I am from Melbourne so I guess the anzacs one is the go. I am a pretty crap player score-wise though - and tend to go for the quickest, most enjoyable victory rather than goign for score. So would probably drag average scores down for whichever empire is unfortunate enough to be lumbered me. Is that ok? - not sure of the etiquette etc. involved. thank
I just hope the designers and Coding Techs can get rid of the gremlins in this first edition befor they release the expansion.
Also remember - that when they are releasing updates at the present rate - it is not going to be bullet-proof. It doesn't go through the standard QA so bugs will slip through. I think the stand-alone updates are a different story(??). They go through a more strenous QA procedure don't they. I think the version out of the box w
I remember reading at pre-release or early release time, Brad saying that the AI is smartest only on the upper two levels - though I may be mistaken about this. eg. with stuff like them being aware when you start massing ships near their star systems etc. Is this still the case? (Or was it ever). Or on Intelligent does it have all available strategies/smarts enabled - but not resource bonuses. thanks.
A couple of weeks ago I asked about having a military governor option to change a project after completion of the current one. You said it was reasonably straightforward but would depend on the UI guys. I noticed the lastest patch has 3 governor buttons - Is the 3rd button a placeholder for that option (for the exapansion pack I assume) ? thanks for any help.
This is definitely the best-balanced and most fun the game has been. Playing on Genius/Large. I have to suck up to the AIs just enough to stop them declaring war - then rush for Battleaxes. This holds them off for a bit and they start demanding stuff again - just in time for me to build Battlecruisers. Trade Goods are expensive to build and expensive to lease but not excessively so. Just enough that I can build Diplomatic Translators, Aphrodisiacs, Grav. Accelerators and that Tritonium thingo, b
Thanks (again!) Ray. I didn't ask the question - but have seen this happening and never worked out what it was.
Would this be difficult to add to the expansion pack? I don't use the Military Governor option too much because it can often mean wasted production if I am switching to a less expensive project. eg. If I switch from Constructors to Battleaxes, then planets that have Constructors 90% completed will churn out a battleaxe next month - but lose months of production in the process. Would love to see an extra option along the lines of 'Switch to X after the completion of Y'. (But leave the switch imme
I agree. I wasn't asking for enforced treaties as that would limit the game too much. Just would like to see a penalty for breaking a treaty. Diplomatic or Morale hits etc.
I think the only penalties that can be imposed for breaking a treaty would be Diplomacy Rating, withdrawal of trade goods if they were part of the treaty, and possibly downgrading relationships with other races that were above neutral with the race you betrayed. eg - Say I break a treaty with the Yor. They are Warm/Friendly/Close with the Torians - so my relationship with the Torians would drop one notch. If the Yor were Neutral or below with the Torians then my relationship with the Torians wou
I agree. Treaties not only should have set minimum durations but there should also be heavy penalties for violating them for all races, much like in Civ.
Yes - perhaps your Diplomacy Rating drops if you break a treaty. With it dropping by a greater amount each time you do it again.
With the AI taking more notice of defense ratings along with the tweaked BattleCruisers I am finding the game alot more fun. Still struggling in Genius but enjoying it a whole lot more! The AI does it's usual threatening near the start around the time I get Shields. I then churn out a Battleaxe on each planet and it is JUST enough to keep him off my back. Then the same thing again with Cruisers - and then again with Battleships. You've managed to get that fine balance where I have to research an
