I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting multiplayer - but the most important factor to take into account is limited developer resources. Stardock are a small company (I assume) and at the moment those resources are allocated to enhancing the single player game. I for one hope that is where the focus remains. If they could clone Brad, Cari and co and send them off to work on a multiplayer version then that would be another matter. But remember clones are almost always chaotic

I actually agree with you in part Yin, and like that "mystery" aspect of not knowing excatly what's ahead on the tech tree. Now that I think of it more - I am not after a tech-tree as such as I don't want to bee-line for certain techs. I have actually avoided fully-reading javascouts (excellent) site as I don't want to find out any spoilers for future techs. My main gripe is when it comes to selecting a new tech to research - it will list what projects/modules are available with that tech -

At the moment I am churning out constructors at all my planets. Rather than sending them off to their destinations individually - I have turned off auto-launch and letting fleets build up. Then send hordes of them off into enemy sectors in one go. This is working well, except for having to hit the Next button on my planets when a constructor is built. Anyway to suppress the planet screen and just let it keep building? thanks.

(Can't post messages there at the moment due to server hassles so asking here). You mentioned that there would be a hyperlinked tech tree in an upcoming expansion pack. Any details on this? Or when it will be available. I think the game interface is very good - but tech tree info is one area it falls behind in compared to SMAC, Civ3 and even MOO2. Be nice to know if this is confirmed as an upcoming feature. thanks.

Thanks for the help re: hit points in a previous thread. I also discovered the Torians had a starbase on a military resource which was tipping the battles their way. Went and destroyed it and am more on even terms. Does a ship have to return to a planet to repair? If not does it repair faster on a planet than it does in space? thanks.

I've noticed in all my games so far that my ships have far less hitpoints then the AI. Mine are around 65 and theirs is 120. I am assuming at least some of that is coming from racial picks(?) When you build shipyards/foundries does that increase hitpoints? Are there other ways apart from picks at the start? Also when you research tech that gives you +10 weapons etc. - does that apply to only ships built after that tech is discovered or is it applied retrospectively to existing ship

One thing I am finding tedious at the moment is building starbases in the late game. I agree with another poster that maybe an Uber-Constructor type is needed. If not, then one thing I would like to see is a SMAC-style Goto Base/Sector/Starbase option. Perhaps in the form of - when I right-click on the new Constructor - it will remember the co-ordinates I sent the last one and give me the option to send this one there as well. At the moment I am building constructors all over the galax

Apart from some SDC issues, I have yet to see a genuinely negative thread about Galciv on the strat group. Can't remember this happening before. Even games that are now regarded as classics like SMAC had a fair few naysayers upon release. The combination of: a solid bug-free game, great game play and AI, plus the devs participation on groups/forums and frequent updates/patches has resulted in the most overwhelmingly positive reaction I can remember on that group. Can anyone remember a game

I haven't heard anything from Brad or the devs about this. Is this something that may/is being planned for a future update? It is the only interface limitation I find with the game (which is otherwise very streamlined and easy to use). In the research screen when you select a tech to research - it will tell what future tech you can research and what military/social projects and starbase modules you can build - but no indication as to what they do. I would like to be able to right-click

Ok, still don't really know what I am doing! Playing on Normal AI/Large Universe. I have played a few games on this setting and get to a point where I have colonised about 1/5 to 1/4 of the universe. All sectors that I have systems in have starbases that have about +20% production bonuses, good defense and some ship defense/attack/speed bonuses. Getting +ve income from trade/taxes. Have built a few wonders and have a couple of battleships (plus lesser ships) at all systems. At thi

After playing a few games I really like the UI. I am glad we may be getting auto-deorbiting, but I have gotten quite used to deorbiting when a ship is built. Pretty straight forward. One thing I think the game really needs is info/date popping up when you right-click on it. Particularly on research and diplomacy screens. A few people have asked for this but I haven't seen if Brad is considering it or not as yet(?). I think it is fairly important - especially in light of the fact that so

Is it just Public Opinion? I was playing a game last night and got the Unhappy people on a certain planet message - along with the skull icon (>?). I wound up my propoganda to full and rushed a couple of morale social projects but they still defected. There were no alien worlds/starbases in that sector - the nearest was about 3 sectors away. I had a starbase with Culture + 5% operating there. Are there any signs to watch out for other than approval rating. It was 49% when I got the

Agreed. Also the fact that all threads appear on one long page is starting to make browsing a bit cumbersome. If it can't be automatically split - then how about some extra forums eg - Download/Purchase/Registration/SDC Issues Bugs/Updates/Suggestions Strategy General/Newbie questions. That would at least make manual searching easier.

When you are bartering - at the moment I (for example) select a tech I have, then ask for a certain amount of cash. If the other race rejects my offer - is there anyway to leave my current request there and amend it. Eg if I ask for 50bc for 3 months and they say no - it defaults back to zero months and I have to start again. Would be more streamlined if the 50bc for 3 months stayed there and I could amend it to, say, 40 for 3, or 40 for 2 etc. Also - it would be good (but this may an

Hi, I was playing a game this afternoon, when Galciv did a CTD. I reloaded the Autosaved game, and when the game loads there is a blank research screen (or maybe it's the summary screen - can't tell.) I click on the Done button and the main map is just a red block. Can reload other games or start again without problems... just this particular game state has caused a problem. I have zipped up the savegame and can send it to you guys if you want to look at what the cause is.

One thing I didn't realise until I fired up the games, was the ability to set different AI difficulty levels for each race. Is this a first? It's a pretty cool feature I think. Further down the track when I suck less at the game I want to try setting 3 of the races on easy/good and one on hard/evil and try beating the powerful evil race with the help of the other 3. Is this feasible? Anyone tried this before? Or am I speaking crap!

Brad, Might I suggest adding the instructions to the email you send out with the serial number. Straight after (or before) the link to the SCD download. At the moment, if people aren't familiar with the process, they may think the link is either the galciv download itself, or a preinstaller (which in a way it is) and expect something automatic to happen. Now my sdc hassles have been sorted out, I do think it is a good way of getting updates... but it is not really app

For W2K - boot off your Windows CD, can't remember the exact steps (but you can find it via Knowledge Base on Microsoft.com... search on NTLDR missing). You need to copy NTLDR and ntdetect.com from \i386 on your CD to your root drive. You will also need to recreate C:\boot.ini, which you can get from your Emergency Recovery Disk. I didn't have one and copied it from another Win2K PC. My boot.ini has the following: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdi

Can't be sure, as it may have been coincidence... but I downloaded SDCentral on Tuesday and when I rebooted the next day my NTLDR (I am running Win2k) was gone! Didn't think it was SDC but have read a few other users had similar hassles. All fixed now and there was no data loss, but will be using the manual download method that Brad is putting up. I am hoping future bonus packs etc. will be available without having to use SDC as I am a bit hesistant about having it on my pc!
