Freighter question: Send them FROM rich planets TO rich planets, far away is good, but there is one thing that is even more important: Freighters are also an insurance policy. Send them to those that you feel are threatening. They will be far less likely to attack you, because of the income. :) How to stop growth: Raise your taxes. Propaganda: Don´t use it too much, it costs money. Raise your taxes in time, so that your population doesn´t grow so much, this will GIVE

In the meantime, a hearty welcome to our new members. G.R.O.S.S. is going strong, join us now, because, once we are #1, we might consider changing new membership to invitation-only, so it might not be so easy to join us in the future. :)

Don´t have SDC, but I will keep posting here. Patched up to 1.03, started my 4th game with the following conditions: Universalist, 5x Diplomacy, 4x Research, 1x Creativity (don´t know what Creativity does, but even if it does nothing, my strategy is robust enough to survive 1pt mis-placed :) ) Medium, Tight, Occasional; all Winning Conditions enabled 5 opponents, all Intelligent, standard personalities With this setup, I have: Diplomacy +70<

"I just hope you're right about that 10,000 pt. score you were talking about Coffee..." Moving toward it slowly and steadily. The current game, played at Painful/Medium, if I win, should already be worth a 4-digit-score, and we´ll take it from there. :)

"I thought you were meant to come for us....you are nowhere near....good luck..." I disagree. We are growing very fast: From Zero to Top15 in just a few days. And the strategy of G.R.O.S.S. is sound: Recruit the Top Guns- and those Newbies on the way to becoming Top Guns. Ultimately, there is no other Empire yet to focus particularly on the best players. That´s what we are going to do. While I am at it: Any member who makes it to the Top20 -or anybody in the T

Load a Transport with 1 (one) Million. Suicide attack and use the Tidal Wave. This will clean up the infrastructure. Do it on all his well-developed planets, and this opponent will never bother you anymore. :) For more good (evil, I mean) strategies in the future, right out of Coffeedragon´s kitchen, join G.R.O.S.S.! With GROSS tactics, the Future is Human. :)

"Are there some buildings that do not need to be built on every planet?" Wrong question. BUILD AS FEW BUILDINGS AS POSSIBLE. They all cost maintenance. That doesn´t mean you shouldn´t build. But contemplate every Nickel before you spend it. Build only what is clearly useful. I have not built a lot of Medical Centers so far, to give but one example. :) For more good (or perhaps rather slightly evil) strategies I will come up with, visit -and join!- G.R.O.S.S.

"Ha right gypsy. Right!!! The arrangement was if I pass you, you join us. Changing our little arrangement. How evil. You just might have what it takes to be a member of G.R.O.S.S." Which brings me to: The arrangement was: If I join, you make me a Senator. I hope you are not contemplating to renege on this? This would doubtlessly be Evil, but it would also be Masochistic, because I will be going for a score of 10.000 in one of my next games, and wouldn´t it be sad, if I then changed side

"You send out over the Entertainment and News Networks that you're going to hold a planet-wide news conference and every dissenter will get a voice. Then park a colony ship or a combat transport ship outside your office. Have them all get inside the ship (for the conference) and then send them off into space. Detonate the colony ship, shown live on the Entertainment and News Networks of course,..." Mao did something very much along this line, the "1000 Flowers" campaign, first encouragi

"As a side note, population grows at double rate with morale at 100%, so that is a good way to raise your population quickly (which is one of the tricks the computer uses to grow pop so fast)." Thanks for the info! :) (This is one of the things that *SHOULD* be documented, because, if the Ai uses it, the player should know about it. Fair is fair!)

15 Billion Yor have been remodelled into kitchen robots and toys for the children. In other news, Alexians and Torians have chosen to scrap their pathetic attempts at civilization and join the Human Empire. For once, the Drengins have been good for something: They added their vote to ours in the Security Council, and the decision was made to force the Altarians to hand over no less than 8 technologies, including the plans for Dreadnoughts! :D

"There seems little difference scorewise between Tough, Painful, and Crippling." That is not the worst about score calculation. What really ticks me off is that Beginner on Gigantic gives you 10times more pts than Challenging on Tiny. :notsure:

Also, your subversion/espionage spending gets copied from major to minor, and vice versa, when you change between their respective diplomacy screens. This is not just annoying, it does cost you money, if you overlook it, and can even lead to a war!

"I do think though that there are plenty of occasions where reloading shouldn't be punished, not the least of which is turning off the computer and going to bed." Amen to that. It shouldn´t make any difference, if you play through the entire game in one session, or 3 turns at a time. Those who do the latter currently get a worse experience. :( My impression is this is what happens: I pay an enormous sum to the Ai for going to war against a particular enemy. They will stay at

Thanks for correcting the problem. Points calculation is still nuts, though. LOL There is a guy named Technician with rank 47 or so, who has never played above Beginner level. :D All that matters for the score is playing on Gigantic, and you get an enormous score, no matter how weak the opposition. For winning a Challenging game on Small or Tiny, you get practically nothing. Size matters, or something. ;p

Disagree about the Phaserbank. If you get the Aliens to shoot each other, you don´t need a Phaserbank. Diplo is the best Ability in the game, if correctly used. It gives you so much leverage that you can win from a bad start position. So what if you are #7? Use Diplo to foment wars where everybody is involved EXCEPT YOU. Then backstab the weak, or culturally conquer the galaxy while no one is looking. :) In my current game, I bribed the Altarians to attack the Drengin
