fleabit, for the record, I WAS talking about the two higher levels, since that's what he asked about :) Astro ~SDC~
Astromarine
it doesn't cheat the game rules, no. What it gets is a *slightly* more efficient economy and higher starting abilities. That's all. But it still plays the same *game* as you, and it's still hurt if you poke it. Astro ~SDC~
I played a game yesterday on a small map, Beginner AIs all round. I'm still just getting a feel for the game before jumping into the higher diffs, and since I'm usually very poor in military play, I'm concentrating on that. I went for a "rush"-type strategy. Rush to Transports while noone else has ships built, and destroy one or two civs before anyone else has time to breathe. I know this probably doesn't work higher-up, but it's not really my complaint. The problem is the HUGE boost I
no, you're not the only one. Viva Lusitannia :) Even though I'm currently exiled in Switzerland :) Astro
IMHO, you're taking the wrong approach. You want the game to be strategic, but the best way for that to happen is to require strategic alteration of tried-and-true plans in the case of different circumstances. That is, as good as the game is, when you play enough to understand the intrincacies, you can use predictable moves and develop a winning strategy. When that happens, the only way you'll be challenged is if you have different scenarios to interact to. I think of it like the disasters in Si
I equate that event with the story of B5 (you know, the Shadows). You are *supposed* to be awed, and it's something that turns a "normal" game into a survival race. it would be annoying if the event was less rare, but as it is it's like a separate game altogether that shows up sometimes. Astro
This has been reported elsewhere already, I think, and is a problem with the "auto launch" feature, so if you turn it off you don't get the bug Astro ~SDC~
Obligatory ST:TNG reference: "Shut Up Sysiphus" ~SDC~
you can change their names, change their alignment and intelligence, and IIRC you can choose to play with less than the full 5 civs Astro
Yes SAH! getting right on it. Astro ~SDC~
2 other people already said this, but this event is NOT Game Over, simply because the Drengins' economy is completely shot down with the burden of paying monthly maintenance for the ships. If you think things through, it should be possible to attack their economy further, with hit-and-run attacks on shipping lanes, destroying starbases, and such to make him go completely bankrupt. Maybe then you can do stuff like buying some of the corvettes back from him, trade them for a crappy star system, et
I hear you, brother. The beta for EVE-Online and Galciv are fighting for control of my brain. Argh.
Can your trade income be increased? By starbases along the routes maybe? Astro ~SDC~
I signed up for Drengin.net. Browsing SDC for updates I just noticed. Remember the current patch version? 1.02.040? Remember that each major number seems to have about 5-6 minors? I just noticed The Corporate Machine in my SDC. It's on patch 1.20.006 THAT, my friends, is dedication to one's product. Congrats Stardock :) Let's just imagine what Galciv will be like in 1.20... Astro ~SDC~
this and other kinds of extra info are supposed to come out in the (free) expansion pack scheduled for June. So you have to wait until then. Sure is a nice feature though. Astro ~SDC~
lay off the guy. He has already mentioned English is not his first language. If you're saying being smart requires knowing foreign languages perfectly, I'd like to see you make some Portuguese sentences now, please. Otherwise stop being childish, I thought games like this one attracted people less inclined for these antics. Astro ~SDC~
I think in a forthcoming patch Brad will change the functionality of that button from whatever it is it does (what is it, BTW?) to open a browser into this thread. Kinda self-recursive, you know? :) Astro
1.02 is only available through Stardock Central, as all other small updates. If you do not want to use SDC, there will be a big update on the website this week Astro
hehe nice place you go to. :)
Simple rule of thumb: Would *you* want the trade if it was in reverse? I'm guessing not, since you're getting rid of the thing. So, if *you* didn't want it, why would the AI? Unless they're REALLY in need of some extra production (like being exterminated or something) they are right in refusing that piddly system Astro
Damn that UPS :) ~SDC~
To AbeDralok, I'll try to make some sense to what Brad is saying. He only programmed the AI to be able to know the star color. But what he said was that he wasn't sure if, internally in the code, the Resources were defined as a "kind" or star or a "kind" of ship. If the first, it's possible that the AI knows where they are as a sideeffect of the star color thingy. If the second, they there's no way for the AI to know and this is just another case where the player is being mislead because of some
probably some promotion on the OS/2 version way back when ~SDC~
starting in the corner has one drawback: it makes all your trade route go in only 3 gerenal directions. MUCH easier to get them attacked that way if you go to war. No? Astro ~SDC~
yep, the slighly easier morale should help quite a bit Astro ~SDC~
