A couple of civilizations in my game had among their stats as an Interest rate- I think it was the Yor (who are rated as neutral) and the Arceans or the Drengins. Im curious as to what this is exactly- never noticed it before, and its not there for other civs..

I agree with you- I think it would be a nice touch if these ships are just some old Precursor models that are not part of anything we can get. As a result, they should be harder to repair and fix as well- fixing million year old technology is not easy.
Damint Zah, we're on the same wavelength again. I think revealing the fog of war regarding their military units might be a good idea at some point. More so, I think espionage needs more tangible effects straight out- for example, if I cant steal a tech, I should at least have the ability to find out who they're talking to, what deals they have made lately, the terms of there other trades and such. I could then use that information to structure trades to my benefit, because I have more informatio
Just fyi, for anyone else who has a better read of game programming than I do, is the option I suggested in the first post of even viable or a complete pipe dream based in a redesign of the entire interface ?
Brad, firstly, that was a really interesting read- Im huegly impressed that you got the game done on that budget that well- it was interesting to read the insights into finicky details that gamers tend to ignore. My question, and excuse my ignorance, is if there is any way to change the viewing angle (what you mentioned as a regret) ? The ships do look gorgeous when seen from the side (in the videos), but I realize this would probably involve a redesign of the entire interface, and reall
I think I agree with what Vorlin has to say- I like the idea of a maximum cost of some sort. In a sense, we could attribute it to economies of scale. I also do like the idea of having a social improvement that can cover some of this- adds something that has definite value. One idea Ive been thinking of for starbases is to fix a cost associated with each Starbase, and link it to distance to some extent- this would make the culture bomb cheese tactic (build multiple SB in other's terriotry) ag
Famke Jansen- forgot all about her... She was pretty good. As a whole, I really liked the movie- I think too many people will ignore it because its based on a comic book; which would be strange, because these are the same movie snobs who believe a crappy mediocre movie becomes a treatise on the human condition when its in french...
actually, going to go see it in 2 hours.. babes though have to start with 1. Rebecca- Romjin Stamos 2. Halle berry 3. Anna Paquin
CariElf, Im glad we resolved our disagreement. Basically, I wanted the chain reaction/cyclic war to be more realistic, and I think we agree on that...
Code Monkey, the point is that once you have paid me a large amount to go to peace, you would not declare war on me in the next turn, especially if I stronger than you. Currently, that is the case, and it lets the human exploit the AI of the weaker race that way. We need to rethink Alliances; as Ive seen, they're never broken by a decision not to go to war, or have this domino effect that get's extremely irritating, even more so when you're trying to make peace.
How many people have found this to be a substantial issue ? I ask because it aggravates me and has the potential to be a huge cheese tactic (make peace every turn and get a lot of cash)...
agreed.
Za h is right on- This stuff bugs me as well. Espionage is really one of the things that needs to be addressed in the expansion pack.
I agree- More than once Ive tried to help out a friend by putting my ships next to his planets in a protective role- and by blocking opposition ships. Its irking when he see's this as negative.. CariElf, I know its hard to discern intentions, but something it would be great if cone could let the AI know one's intentions; call it the adverse selection problem.
I think its an interesting idea actually- though I wonder if it would be possible to code this into the AI well; ie, for it to be able to take advantage of de-allocating points from an area (negative in an area) and increasing in another...
For those saying that an AI tech path can't be countered, I would disagree- isn't this what destabalization is meant to do ? by upsetting their systems and hopefully getting them to revolt, you're grinding down their tech base- mixed with a militarty attack, you can slow down their rate of ascension almost completely.
btw, the French/English comparison holds on validity here- The English were directly allied with the French.
CariElf, that's not what I mean. What I do mean is that if the Torians are allied with the Altarians and the torians go to war with me, the Altarians should by all means come along. However, Altarian allies (the I-League for example) should not join in as readily, along with the allies of the I-league (say the Arcaens). The ripple effect should not be there to such an extent.
"I agree that espionage needs a makeover, and I would say the same about destabilization. These are two of the more underdeveloped and uninteresting aspects of the game right now. " Absolutely- although I would argue alliances and the wars that result from a chain effect are more irritating. Its still amazing though- I don't think many would doubt that this is one of the (if not the) best games out there, and yet Brad isn't willing to let it be. YOu know, if I ever graduate and get
sorry to bump this again, but this is the feature that bugs me the most- the idea that the friend of your friend's friend has to be drawn into a war because you're in it- I think the war declaration should be limited to the race that started it. Thus if the Torians declare war and are allied with the Altarians who are allied with Arcaens who are allied with the I-league, all of them should not be at war; only the Torians and the Altarians. Down the chain, they may ask for help in the form of cas
I agree; after a while it just seems pointless; I look at the statistics and it lets me know what they're doing, but Id like to see more active espionage. For example, If I have infiltrated their highest lvels of government and know more than they do, they should be less likely to attack me since a lot of their leadership is beholdent to me for their free cash flow- or if they do, I should have great knowledge of their fleet, their battle plan, and such.
Im in agreement with those who want to penalize colonization at the beginning, so that you don't overextend. Id love to see this delayed a little bit more. Another thing that would be nice is for the techs to be more "there", so to speak. Let me explain- I would like to see their effects beyond adding numbers to raitngs; while this may be valid for some, currently, it seems to the bonus of the majority of techs.
Ive seen 42; goddamn Altarians, right at my door...
There isn't- I think Brad had said that he purposely left this out so that it would be more of a challenge. If you are desperate enough , you can go through every option, but I don't think too many will do that.
Brad, if possible, Id love to a know a little more about the backstory in the game, and what the underlying plot is supposed to be. I know you had mentioned that you wanted to address this at some point- just curious as to when this might be. thanks, Aadik
