The only big problem I have with the Ranger is due to its position on the tech tree, by the time I can build them, I've got a fleet of Dreads. They are not that much better than Dreads, and Avatars are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Rangers which are much better than Dreads. End result is that I find their role in the game extremely limited.
CM, I agree with you to some extent, but in a larger galaxy where all the anamolies have yet to be explored, they offer an intere

That's the funny thing, Aadik. I've read that post too where Brad clearly explained why he feels that fleet (attack) bonuses would unbalance the game. That is why I was dead certain that this "much proven in gameplay" fleet defense bonus is a bug. However, as Mr Lucky said, it is in the manual as a "tip". I was taking out dreads with ease by fleeting starfighters in one of my games with the loss of 1 starfighter per dread. The bonus is overwhelming if it is workin

Blackbody, what it reflects is the civilization only advantages that you have ,that can't be gifted to the Arceans- your 10% HP bonus and 50% weapons bonus is for yuor ships alone. I agree that it might be preferable for a ship that is gifted to be reflective of its original makers or of yours, whichever is higher- as such, if I got a shitty ship, I would upgrade it using my civ tools- if I got a great ship, I don't have the capacity for further upgrade...

The I-league is an independent alignment of various dissatisfied worlds that often forms in games- you are very liable to lose unhappy worlds that stay that way for a long time to it. You can attack them- do you want to explain the particular's of your situation ? Also, regarding the metaverse, I believe there is a scoring problem currently- once that is fixed it should be good.

I recieved a surrender from the Altarians because the Yor and Drenigen were wiping the floor with em- this was somewhat strange as I had so-so relationships with them, while the Torians where their allies and stronger than me by far- I was 3rd in military at this time. On the other hand, I was the only one not involved in a war, so it makes some sense that they would prefer not to fight anymore.

Ralegh, thanks for the advice- did try that. One little detail- I still get that damn pop-up about a critical error or whatever, but I realiezed the button next to galciv says install, instead of download- either way, when I try to download and archive by right clicking, it starts and then stardock shuts down. Im curious as to what other people who download the updates from work (using stardock, not standalone) or somewhere other then where the game is installed.

CariElf, I think I may have figured out the root cause, but Im no closer to solving the problem. Every time I open Stardock, it asks me to me a create a stardock.net account- even though I have signed in, and have put in my registration number. If I try to login (by clicking submit), it starts to download sdcentral.zip, then stops, and goes back to the same screen- as such, I just click skip, and it warns me I won't be able to download any updates. Im somewhat confused, since stardock recogn

OKay, I registered my galciv account on this computer, abut whenever I tried to download and archive Galciv, the program shut down. More so, everytime I click on one of the items (such as Gal civ) in the drenigen.net window, I get a pop-up that says, "Critical Error creating application information. PLease reinstall the application to correct this problem." This is somewhat aggravating- all I want to do is to download and archive the update at work, and then install it at home. A

HEy guys, I have Gal Civ and Stardock installed on my home computer, where I currently have no internet access- Here at work, I do have access and can download updates. Short of waiting for the standalone updates (patches), is there any solution where I can download stardock on my comp here at work and then copy the files and update them at home ?
