Just how long would a population even last on class 2 planet? Plus, wouldn't your morale just plummet? Although, if you could get some scratch for them... that might be worth losing a few million people (from my overcroweded planets of course). :CONGRAT: ~SDC~

The thing I've noticed now, is that minor civs tend to get nifty trade goods, but only have a few planets (if they have multiple planets at all). So far, at the sub-normal and lower ints, the major civs don't seem to make trade goods until several game-years in. When the major civ int was Fool, the minors would have multiple planets... which I would eventually conquer... but when the major int was Sub-Normal, the minors had one, maybe two, planets... and each was a virtual fortress (mu

Does it stutter during the game, or just the movie scenes? If it's the movies, then just rename then (like, disabled_colony_leaving.bik) and they won't play. Or remove them altogether (and put them someplace safe, just in case). I think there are pcx files for various bik files, so that events will still show something.... :notsure: ~SDC~

Actually, there's a ton of turn-based multiplayer games. Even better, anybody can play them, no fancy graphics cards, no memory or processer issues... not even connection problems. And they've been around a long time. . . . . . Chess, checkers, Monopoly, Clue, Life, backgammond, bridge, poker... The only trick is getting the other players in the same room at once. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~

Check out the Mods forum. How-to's for creating new stuff (and throughwhich, changing the existing stuff... though that may get you labeled a "cheater" on Metaverse). ~SDC~

Hm, just tried it... Windows says that galciv.exe is version 1.0.0.1. I guess that, perhaps, the updates don't alter the exe file, just other files. As for which version you have, just use Stardock. On the software tab, it'll say which version is installed... which seems to be 1.02.049 at this point. I did notice that when I first installed GalCiv and the Bonus Pack, which I got off the Downloads page, that Stardock didn't recognize GalCiv as version 1.01, and I had to update

I wasn't seeing any threads newer than Friday's on Stardock. Even refesh didn't do anything. I thought that maybe something went "plop" over the holiday weekend. Then I checked the forum from IE. Everything's good. I had to use Tools-Refresh Application Data to see new threads on Stardock. :notsure: ~SDC~

"It's a conceptual maximum number of people you can theorectially fit on the planet." Heh, we need some Hive World technology from Warhammer 40K! Cram 'em in buildings 3 miles high! ;p ~SDC~

You can lead the prison ships someplace? Those guys just seem to camp my planets and blast anything that I build. In one game I had tons of influence (gotta love those waterparks and shopping malls), so I voted for the Torians to get the prison (they were in a corner with only 3 planets, but highly defended ones). When the breakout occured, the battleships appeared at their homeworld, wiped out about a dozen ships. Then the Torians sent ships from their other worlds to attack... also

Easy to find out, just pick the "evil" option on two or three moral events (or just one, if the option is really evil). Personally, I have a hard time distinguishing the icons in evil-mode. The dark red against the dark brownish background is hard on my eyes. 'Course the blinding white of good causes me to put on my shades ( ;) ), so I tend to stick to neutrality (which isn't good enough for a Pure Good race). ~SDC~

Okay, just played at Sub-Normal (I'm working my way up the intellengence ladder ;) ), and the AI does build bases where there aren't any resources. They don't seem to upgrade them, so I'm guessing it's strictly for influence purposes (they seem to be in sectors adjacent to ones they own). I, too, set my military to Constructors as default, which is why I'm always playing catchup when somebody declares war on me (fortunately, I've researched warships, I just don't build 'em 'till I n

Instead of changing it, try not to spend so much. For instance, when you start a new game, set social to zero, and after you have a number of planets, increase social. You'll have more income by this time, as well as a larger population base. Also, early in the game, don't build social projects or ships that have a maintenance cost (unless you've got a particular strategy in mind), and don't Purchase anything with a Lease (except, perhaps, some Colony ships to get a leg up). If you n

Maybe the Yor have mechanical outsides, but organic insides... "Crunchy on the outside, and gooey on the inside!" ;p ...'course if you're gonna wonder about why the Yor need Earth-type planets, you might wonder what a mechanical race will do with enhanced soil? Better crops? Come to think of it, shouldn't the Tidal Wave Invasion option be more effect against robots? It'd short-circuit all of them! :D ~SDC~

Does it crash if you set it to a smaller galaxy? Does it crash if you disable the video (rename it to colony_leaving_disabled.bik, or something)? Are you playing on a lower-end computer (minimum specs or less)? Just a few ideas... ~SDC~

The first time you play, the real enemy isn't the other AI players, it's the large number of options available. LOL The first thing to do is to learn how to budget your economy. Play the game with Fool AI's (so you can worry about your own empire for now), and a medium galaxy (big enough to see stuff, not so big as to take several days to play). Then try to colonize/research/build without going into the red. Once you figure out what works for you, try a new game with higher AI int

I've wondered what the intellegence level for the minor civs is set to. They seem to be far more effecient than the major civs when the majors are at low intellegence. When I started playing the game, my main foe wasn't any of the Fool civs, but the various minor civs who could have 5-6 planets (with high quality planets to boot) and quite an armada of warships. ~SDC~

Although I'm glad to game's native is 1024x748, I wish it was 32-bit color as well. I have to do some desktop messing to play it windowed. Tactical combat would be cool, but not in a game like this. There's already tons of info to deal with, but perhaps a different game in the same universe... ~SDC~

It seems that whenever a new game comes out, if it doesn't have multiplayer options, it gets dinged in its final score for that. And games that have limited multiplayer (like "only" deathmatch, or "only" co-op), gets negative marks for not being creative. Not every game on the market needs to be multiplayer. ~SDC~

Now I haven't played at the higher intellegence levels, but I've only seen AI starbases at resources. They might have one or two additional modules, but that's it. I, on the other hand, crank out constructors as my military default, and I'll put several modules on each base, plus additional bases that aren't based on resources. ~SDC~

Actually, this is a good question. Since the mods are free, is it okay to use copyrighted material for the images. If I created an "Intergalactic Bounty Hunters" event, could I use an image of the Star Wars bounty hunters from the films, or a "MacroRobotics" tech and use images from Battletech? ~SDC~

You can sell social projects by going to the planet in question, open its main screen, and select the Details button. Choose your project from the list and hit the Cancel Project button. I don't think you actually get any money, but you'll lose the maintenance. ~SDC~
