Same issue here that Vorlin had; installed game off CD, used the 1.01 bonus download, installed SDC, but SDC said I still had 1.0. Only after downloading all 85MB's did it update properly. This was, however, on an earlier version of SDC... ~SDC~

The only thing I can come up with is to copy the save game elsewhere, then reinstall the game, put back the save game, then finish the map. THEN, update the game. I'm guessing that it may be a good idea to finish a game before patching to a new number (i.e. 1.02 to 1.03), but it should be okay to update at that same number (1.031 to 1.032, or whatever). I suppose it depends on what was changed. :notsure: ~SDC~
Uh, wait a sec-- check1es already has SDC... but doesn't have the game? Then what does he want the patch for? :notsure: ~SDC~
Even though I use SDC, I still download each standalone patch. Just for backup purposes. I generally prefer to download an actual file for updates for all my games and utilites (even M$'s WinUpdate page). I've got several discs of utitlites/games/updates/patches and whatnot, useful when I need to resinstall (or worse, reformat). ~SDC~
Two Discworld mentions in one night! And I've been here since before the game was released! :D Well, we have quite a few serious events, I certainly wouldn't mind some amusing ones! :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
I had a trade ship that belonged to the Drengin (I think) that vanished and was replaced by a bright-red sillouette of the ship. It still moved, and seemed to act like a trade ship, but if I clicked on it ("what the heck is that?"), I crashed to desktop. ~SDC~
I became evil in about 3-4 turns. I had two colonies established, both had morality events, I choose evil in both cases (hey, the "good" options cost more than were in my treasury... okay, I *could* have chose "neutral", but it didn't pay enough :D ), and *poof*, I was evil... ... then I decided to choose evil for all future morality... just for the heck of it! :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
Since I've been having trouble winning games, I've tried setting the AI to neutral. The one thing that never happens anymore, is that nobody goes on an iquisition to eradicate evil (or good). The Altarians used to do this to me quite often ( I hardly think that 46 morality constitues "evil", but there ya go). ~SDC~
I personally like the +15% PQ ability. Nothing that taking over a bunch of overlooked class 12-14 planets and making them 15+ in a few turns. Hey, it was called "Shazam!", right? Of course, combine it with maintenance-free starbases and original-cost constructors, and you could have quite the economic and cultural powerhouse. Probably why both were adjusted at the same time. What would be nice is to allow these various cheese-tactic abilities and whatnot to be playable, but not subm
Maybe if Stellar Cartography gave some bonus (+1 sensor of something) it might be more useful. I've researched it once, but only because I was, for some reason, trying to research *every* tech... can't remember why, though. :D ~SDC~
Try turning off the playlist. Is it, perhaps, your soundcard? I seem to remember something about SB Live's having a problem... Basic fix for any game that crashes on me: Turn off all unneccessary background programs. Scan for viruses (use error-checker, too, if you have one). Check for updated drivers for sound and graphics cards (make sure that the game's readme doesn't have issues with certain drivers/cards/godknowswhatelse). Check game's support or forum for so
Since Frogboy's already mentioned that they don't intend to replace this forum with another type, I won't suggest that... However, search and edit (as many have suggested) would be desirable. More so, to me, would be italics and boldface (should be easy to implement). I hate having to CAPITALIZE or *asterisk* words for emphasis. An icon for threads that have one of your posts on it, so you know where you've been. Just a simple black dot superimposed over the existing icons
I was playing a game this morning, and I one point I set the military slider to 0%, but my military spending was still listed as 4bc. I couldn't figure this out, assumed it was a bug, and continued playing. Later, after building a dozen Corvettes, several Starbases, etc., I noticed that my military spending was astronomical. I gathered that ship (and starbase) monthly maintenance was grouped with spending. I thought that ship maintenance would be part of the "Maintenance" entry on yo
"sussed" it? Heh, another "Hitchhiker's" fan. :D ~SDC~
Heck, up until yesterday, I was Shazam!-ing class 12-14 planets all over the place (adding the soil/habitat upgrades immediately). Add the pre-maintenance starbases, and I'd have the other races eatin' McDonalds and buyin' Disney merchandise. :CONGRAT: Interesting, now that I think about it, both of these were "adjusted" at the same time. Makes those culture wins a bit more difficult. ~SDC~
I got that message once when I had two starbases with military upgrades on them in Altarian space. The odd thing was, I was using the Attack bonuses to blast away Yor and Arcaen ships (who were both at war with me and the Altarians). I was also trading heavily with the Altarians (only 40%, but still...). They were "warm" to me. Then destabilization kicked in, the Arcaens wanted peace... then the Yor wanted peace... then the Altarians demanded (with the above message) that I get rid o
Heh, glad that was a bug and it's been fixed. I played last night after updating earlier in the day. Only a few years into the game, discover a Torian station... It had to have more than a dozen modules! Oddly enough, I found, deep in Torian space, 3 stars, in the same sector, lined up in a row, with 4 planets (17,19,19,26!)... and about 30 Torian constructors (some 5-6 ships stacked) just whizzing about, ignoring them. I was wondering if this was some new strategy that the Torians were usin
I maxed destab and espionage against the Arcaens and the Yor (both were at war with me). Once I was able get a high-enough level espionage, I checked their stats every turn. In both cases, their morale would *eventually* go down. They're worlds went from 60-80% morale range to 50%-54%... and stayed there. Unfortunately, both the Yor and Arcaens had plenty of cash... the morale levels went up 4-10% every 5 or 6 turns, then dropped, then rose, etc. I was forcing them to continuously maintain
"Commence primary ignition!" :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
Not to rain on your parade or anything, but the Universalists and the Industrialists are part of update 1.03. ~SDC~
Since Hoth was brought up, how about planetary defense in the form of a huge freakin' gun, the Ion Cannon? Granted, it may only be able to fire at adjacent sectors, but it'll teach the AI to hang around my star blowing up expensive ships! :D ~SDC~
I usually just take whatever the game gives me (I've only used Ctrl+N once, to try it out), even if the setup looks bad for me. I once had a Sol with an 18 Earth, no other planet higher than 9, and no other stars in any adjacent sector. Was going to Ctrl+N, but, just for fun, I explored 2 sectors away, and found four stars, with a total of 7 15+ planets (one of them was 22!). That became the heart of my empire. :CONGRAT: ~SDC~
I thought that, too. But when I started a new game, I left the tax at 33% and put spend at 100%... I was now losing money (only about 7bc, not much when you start with 1000bc). As far as the 20+ planets go, it's partly luck (on the way the map is made), as well as how aggressive you are at sending out the colony ships. I'll build one scout, then send the scout and the survey ship off in two directions (towards whatever directions the nearest stars show on the galaxy map). <
In my current game, I went colony-happy and left the Drengin with 2 planets, in the corner sector (also left the Torians with 3 planets in the opposite sector). With the nasty Drengin out, however, the Yor have become the military aggressors (and they only have 3 planets!). ~SDC~
At Fool level, the only thing the AI ever offered me was money (since I tended to have the biggest military at that level). At sub-normal, the AI would periodically offer tech trades, although the tech the wanted from me was usually weapons-based (hey, if they want 1D Phasing, they can have it... I've already got 3D!). ~SDC~
