I believe I may just be reiterating what's already been said, but I think it needs to be enunciated. Copying music is not stealing. It's copyright infringement. Now, obviously, they're both illegal. But the use of the word 'stealing' in the context of (illegal) music downloading makes it all too easy for the RIAA and their ilk to sell the 'one downloaded copy equals one lost sale' line... which is patently absurd, but has nevertheless gained some traction. The us

I was playing with version 1.04.060, which, according to the readme, has bigger scores and more difference between difficulty levels... errr... obviously. Perhaps its not anomalous...? I do wish, though, that when the scoring formula in the game is changed, it *immediately* gets retro-applied to the metaverse. ~SDC~
TMan: Sorry, we are not in the habbit of deleting games per players requests. If we did this for one person then we would have thousands of people requesting that we delete their games.
I think you should probably make an exception in my case :) Not so much for me, as for everyone else :D ~SDC~

Well, I just submitted my 16th game twice and it still hasn't shown up. Presumably this is because of the Metaverse's ongoing score shakeup. Perhaps TPTB could let us know when it's finished, and submissions have returned to normal :) ~SDC~

'scuse me for coming in a bit late... timezones and all that, doncha know. Firstly, we already know that score can be retro-twiddled, so I don't see anything particularly wrong with Staffa submitting his "proof of concept"... if it's intractable, TPTB can just baleet his score. Secondly, the difference between a scoring system that can be milked for an effort-free 10000 extra points and a scoring system that can be milked for a +10% boost if you're really trying is significant

No. I think what's happening is that the recorded score and version for each game is stored as part of our player profile, so each score goes on permanent record using the score formula at the time it was sumbitted. However, the final score is recalculated each time using for the 'raw' data from each game, but using the 'current' scoring formula. So there's a difference between our profile's score for game x, and the score for game x in the final score's calculation. Our profiles aren't (yet) be

The main practical problem I have with such blatant score-milking (no offense Staffa :) ) is that the final score is almost entirely a reflection of how long it takes you to get bored with pushing 'end turn', rather than being any indicator of your skill, and in that respect it *is* unfair on other players whose scores are lower, but almost entirely earned by dint of skill and effort. I think it might be a good idea if the contribution of the score from population was either capped at 1

Assuming Stardock hasn't just unleashed the lab monkeys, there seems to be something afoot with the Metaverse scores. I'm *guessing* that what's happening is that when the final score is calculated, old scores are recalculated using the new fomula, but the history is still showing the old scores as-is. Can one of the local deities confirm this? And are old scores going to be retro-fitted individually? ~SDC~

You bet it's observed :) Nothing else nests like that because nothing else works like Morale. As I said, the final morale score isn't really a percentage, it's just clamped to the 0-100 range for display and calculation purposes... so the calculation for morale, AFAICT, goes something like: class_factor + pop_factor + tax_factor + ( empire_morale_mod * sum_of_improvement_morale) + other_crap I haven't checked to see if debt_factor modifies empire_morale_mod or is just

Meh... I'm with Freddybear :) It seemed like major shaftage out the outset, but now it really doesn't bother me that much. Also, in the absense of hard data, I think we'll have to take SD's word for it regarding the ramifications for gameplay (and re-coding the poor AI). So we may have to label this one a 'closed' issue... ... having said that I'd still like to see sliders attached to the governors :) But that's really another issue. ~SDC~

Remember, though, that this is cultural domination, not political domination. It's more like "Thanks to the copious amounts of X-Men 23 datafleks, Soylent Green happy meals and xeno-viagra our government is allowing into our systems, and the fact that even our *leaders* love those pink fleshlings, we're even *more* disposed to just going the whole hog and raising the Terran flag over our colonies." ~SDC~

It's not like they were picking on us or anything... after all, they sacrificed their own best and brightest as well. In fact, there was a general kind of "let's all chuck our young chaps into a muddy ditch and let them get blown up" sort of craze right across Europe around then, wasn't there? ~SDC~

Perhaps you could have an option to choose, at any time, a specific empire against which you gain additional cultural resistance, but doing so would also harm your diplomatic relationship with the empire in question. ~SDC~

Personally, I'm not sure that publishing the scoring formula would be a good thing... it could lead to cheesy score-tuning tactics which would not only undermine the purpose of the table for us as players, but would also undermine the purpose of the metaverse for Stardock. I do agree wholeheartedly though that there should be separate ranking tables for each galaxy size... I really can't see a way to make the scoring *not* heavily tied into the galaxy size, *and* fair for everyone. Pers

Yikes... culture modules have shared-effect as well? No wonder I never vote for that option :) Conversely, you can see why a long-time ally might be *more* susceptible to cultural influences. One of my favorite tactics is to ally-up with another empire (often more powerful), then go on a flipping spree :) Hmph... why isn't there an evil smiley? ~SDC~

So, given that I've got one save game that's completely trashed (i.e. GalCiv goes completely non-linear right after loading it), and one that invariably crashes after the end of the AI's turn, where would you like me to send them? :) ~SDC~
