I've been away for two days, so I haven't done much but read the variables in and display them. Next will come actually saving changes that you make. Makes a lot of use of dropdown menus. The attribute dropdown menu is actually two dropdown menus - the one that displays depends upon whether you choose your event to be a colonization or a random event. (I did that mostly to save space.) Thanks for all your support and all the ideas on how to dance around VB limitations! When I get a

boogiebac: The tutorial lists "economics" random event atttribute as 100, but it seems that all the events that should logically have economics as their attribute have an attribute number of 200. Which is the true value for "econimics?" 100, or 200? Bill ~SDC~

ummm... yours ARE very, very nice. I swear that I'm better at English than THAT... Bill ~SDC~

I looked at the images and the layout is very nice. It's tough to design a user interface that is both functional and appealing. I like to think that I design my apps to be aesthetically appealing, but yours is very, very nice. I can only hope that my interface looks as pleasing when I'm done butchering it. I have one question that I've beat my head against the wall and haven't been able to answer, though. How did you display the pcx file? VB doesn't know that picture format. <

Well, I'm glad SOMEone else in the universe is using VB6, and yes, it makes sense! Basically (excuse the pun), I am going to convert the misbehavin' files into something uniform, and to my liking. As an added attraction, if I did my homework, it might even work. ;) Great! Bill ~SDC~

HawaiiFive-0: How did you manage - or did you even manage - to accomodate the original event files? They are highly... well... irregular. Some of them have tabs in one event where spaces are in others, they don't have the same number of spaces, etc. I could see reading the file (it would be clumsy), but writing the data back out to the file would be next to impossible. It would work fine with files that were exclusively edited by the editing app, since it would be in a format consis

bump - sorry, i don't know how to print this (other than printscreen), so I need this to be current. I'm working on an app to do the same thing(s) that HawaiiFive-0 is working on, mostly because working on stuff like this is fun, but also to keep up with my programming skills. I don't really plan on making it public, but if anyone is interested in seeing what I have (which, at the moment, is nothing) just let me know. Bill ~SDC~

"Great I woke up this morning and blam!... another update" You mean you actually had time to sleep? Jeez, how lucky... I was just wrapping up a game (where the Drengins pounded me to jelly) and I logged on and, there it was. ;) "-moved calc abilities for humans to make sure that ships will get bonuses calculated in" I'm guessing that the subroutine for the bonus calculation happened before the subroutine for the actual bonus, so it took a turn before you had that bon

Dear Brad: Thank you for making the new GalCiv community in the mold of the old one. I remember the good old days of the OS/2 version where everyone's suggestions actually counted and the feasible ones would be accomodated if at all possible in a new release. And now with the new version, customer suggestions are again a top priority. It's this kind of devotion to its customers that deserves a big round of applause. You just don't see that kind of thing often in the world of softwar

I don't think the "bug" where minor AI's still war after the UP passes a resolution to end all wars because they aren't a part of the UP, therefore not subject to their laws! ;) Bill ~SDC~

How about markers? I hate doing deep space exploration, finding a nice resource or a great star system, only to forget where it is. With markers, you could mark that sector as a "point of interest," then you could either cycle through the markers until you find the one you were looking for. Or maybe you are a nosey neighbor and like to keep an eye on a neighbor's star system. If you wanted to get fancy with the marker idea, you could make it so you can type in a brief description and

I'm having problems with forum subject refreshes. For days, now, I have not seen any new subjects. If I try to make one, it seems to go through okay, but it doesn't show up. I can reply to subjects shown in my window, and the replies show up, but no new subjects show up, and I KNOW this forum isn't that dead! I'm using SC version 0.99c 151 build 4. TIA! Bill ~SDC~

Is anyone having trouble posting new topics to the forums? I can add to existing topics, but when I hit the "Submit" button to send the new topic, it just disappears into the void. In the GC Strategies forum, I get a "server cannot be found" error. Bill ~SDC~

Oh, and the original GC was like what you described, and "Eyes of the Universe" gave you the power to see all the stars, and everything about them, too. Bill ~SDC~

Well, we have a fairly good map of our corner of our galaxy, and that's just using our telescopes. I would imagine that they would have the technology to know the locations of the stars. But you still don't know what type of stars they are, nor what kinds of planets orbit them. It seems pretty realistic to me. At least, as far as we can determine how reality relates to the 23rd century! ;) Bill ~SDC~
