The weird thing is that on my SDC, it says that version 1. 05 is updated. Bill ~SDC~

Hmmm, on my SDC, it says the last update was on 8/1. And there was one a little earlier last month, too. Bill ~SDC~
Just curious. Bill ~SDC~
Hehe... I'd probably use windowed mode... if only I could do something really productive while playing GalCiv! ;) Bill ~SDC~
Yeah, my LCD screen has a native res of 1280x1024 also, and it has that "fuzzy look" about it, too. Kinda "retro." ;) My vote is conditional. If it's easy to do, then I vote "yes." I have a feeling there are valid reasons as to why they didn't do it in the first place. (If it's just programming laziness I'll have to strangle some programmers.) ;) Bill ~SDC~
Thanks for understanding that my post was just in fun. I understand that there are things that people want that I don't understand or agree with, but I also understand that it's frustrating not to get what you want. Understand? Did I use "understand" way too much in this post? ;) Bill ~SDC~
by Citizen Quantum73 - 7/21/2003 9:11:09 AM Well this whole resolution thing is utter BS! I just wasted $40 on a games that looks like crap because it won't support 1280x1024??? My Hitachi 17" LCD (which is an awesome monitor) has a native resoultion of 1280x1024 and I have games such as Spaceward Ho! from 1996 that can change resolution and look good. Total BS... Processing cycles for the AI? Please, most people have video cards cards at this point that with at least 16MB - 3
Bill, do the ranger graphics come back after shutting down Gal Civ, and loading the save game?
Ummm, errr... I started a new game and overwrote the old saved games... I'll check for that next time, though. Bill ~SDC~
1.05.071 - No graphics for Altarian Rangers - what do I need to re-download? Thanks! Bill ~SDC~
#330 by Citizen kianta - 6/29/2003 12:40:46 PM GalCiv does not open at all -> crash immediately.version. 1.05.71
I believe the problem was one of the versions of Stardock Central deleted files upon upgrading GalCiv. The fix is to uninstall GalCiv and reinstall it from scratch. (If you d/l'd it like me, it could take a while! I'd suggest starting it before you go to sleep.) Bill ~SDC~
I'm not sure if I'll continuing playing if I can't even stop playing long enough to sleep without losing everything I did.
You sleep? ;) Bill ~SDC~

H5-O: Are you nuts??? When do you get to sleep, man??? I think you're just an advanced AI with an online presence, and most of your CPU cycles go into programming these apps in parallel!!! ;p There is no way the GalCiv community can repay you properly for all you've done for it. I guess the only way to pay tribute is to use the darned things! :) Bill ~SDC~
#229 by Senator CariElf - 6/13/2003 8:22:03 PM Debug.err is in your GalCiv directory. There was a problem with SDC earlier this week where it was deleting files when you updated. If you don't have SDC version 1.01a157 build 16, you may need to re-install it. If your debug.err files is reporting missing files, uninstall and re-install Gal Civ.
Cari, thank you for the information. I uninstalled/reinstalled and everything works again. (Whew! GC withdrawal is painful!)<b
I don't know if this has anything to do with the CTD that I, as well as many other people, are having at the 100% mark of starting a new game (or reloading an old one), but when I run GalCiv in a window, it shows the version as 1.04. Maybe this is a problem? I'm running (or trying to run) 1.05.069. Bill (Yes, I know that the windowed version has been rolled into the main executable, and is no longer a separate entity.) ~SDC~
Dang it, I forgot about those "less than/greater than" sign issues with this forum. It's painful using this thing. I'd like a little more MS API familiarity, like: example (trade screen): [tab] to "Money/Influence" - money. to bring up money dialog box. I enter the amount of money. [tab] to go to months and enter months. [enter] to return to main menu. [tab] until I get to "technology," where the first tech available is highlighted (skips topic if there isn't anything list

How about navigational beacons? It would be nice to set up a network of them so you can easily patrol your territory. I'm not sure how you would impliment setting up your patrol ships to go from beacon to beacon yet, though. Bill ~SDC~
I personally never had a problem getting a job dressed either way. It's GETTING that first interview that's the hardest part. You have to get to bat in order to hit the ball. Make sure your resume is FLAWLESS. No stupid typos or misspellings. Don't clutter it up with useless info, but DO go into detail about things that you feel should be highlighted. If you can get to that first interview, your chances of getting a job go from 0% to who knows? Personally, every time I got to the first interview
Huh? how did this get put into this thread? I wasn't even viewing it! :( Bill ~SDC~

I would say have auto-numbering on as default, but you can turn it off if you want. The user would then get a reminder that non-contiguous numbers will result in the file not working properly. When saving, if the user then leaves a gap, give the user a choice to renumber manually or have the application auto-renumber for you. Bill ~SDC~
You might also want to mention *why* you think they might be interested in hiring you. Bill ~SDC~
Has anyone ever *been* the one that finds that artifact? Bill ~SDC~
In the old GalCiv, if you destroyed a colony, the planet went to a PQ of 1 (which was quirky when you settled a PQ 0 planet and when destroyed, it actually *increased* to PQ 1). Maybe that should again be implemented in the game. Bill ~SDC~
