xtechs.zip is the one you are looking for.Since it replaces the .tech and monster.ship files in the data folder, Cari is suggesting that you make a backup of those files.
Thanks, Ray! My I/O buffer is very small and gets overwritten very easily. :) Bill ~SDC~

If you use the files in xtechs.zip, it is safe to use the TechRevolution issues. The first link is the same, but is actually a link this time. The second one contains the tech revolution up issues. The third contains the full set

Cari: Is there any way to implement a text box so you can load colony ships by typing in a value instead of using the sliders? Sometimes I want to build a colony ship on a planet that is super-populated and the sliders don't have enough resolution to get me even close to the amount that I want on the ship. The result is I have to do a few hundred clicks to get the amount I want. Thanks! Bill ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
Bill, you are only partly correct. I had private correspondence with Stardock that did include some of those messages. To be more exact, it didn't include the "waste your own time" but it certainly did include the "must be a problem with your machine". In addition another CTD that I had was never fixed and no explanation other than 'must be something on your machine" avoidance was offerred. My polite email asking the latest status of second bug last month to cari was very much ignored. I d

Even though I always play with a good alignment, I would like to see people who play a true neutral alignment (let's say 45-55 on the alignment scale) get bonuses, too. For instance, maybe they could research special diplomatic and/or influence stuff because both good and evil races look to you as the only civilization that can bridge the gap between the two philosophies. Maybe you could research a path that eventually leads you to "True Neutrality" tech, and researching that gets you
Has the dissapearing ships bug (often followed by CTD) been fixed with 1.13? Or is it still the micro$oft answer, that is, "must be a problem with your machine, just restart/reload/waste your own time and it will all go away"?
Hurley: StarDock NEVER gave that answer for the disappearing ships bug! Shame on you! >:( What they DID say that there would have to be a total rewrite at the core of the game, itself. Not worth fixing if all you need to do t

I have a use for the "disappearing ship icon" bug... It tells me when to quit. ;) Bill ~SDC~ Drat. I was hoping that associating your serial number was the easy fix. Sorry, no fresh ideas at the moment. [Message Edited]
The one that is late coming out...has anybody heard when the fix will be out???
As far as I know, it's not late. It was promised "sometime this week," so they still have two more days. Four, if you count the weekend. ;) Bill ~SDC~
Not sure if this is a bug, or something, but I've been unable to submit scores to the metaverse since v1.1. I get this error message that says something like success=1 failure=0
Have you upgraded to Drengin Net? If so, then you have to associate your DN serial number with your old GC serial number. That will merge the two entries in the Metaverse database together. Bill ~SDC~

(C0ntrolled Wormholes): "A limited controlled wormhole has been built. Though the theoretical basis for this wormhole is unknown, engineers have been able to recreate solely from watching old reruns of Deep Space Nine. The size of this wormhole and the lack of a theoretical basis on which to enlarge it and direct it, limits this technology to research." :) No, Brad, it's not too campy. I enjoy the fact that GalCiv doesn't take itself too seriously. Bill ~SDC~
Brad says that ships in GC2 will be fully customizable, including your choice of weapons and defenses, with a rock/paper/scissors type of model using mass drivers/armor, lasers/shields, and missiles/point defense. you'll pick weapons and defenses in addition to chassis, engine, etc.
Cool. A "Shipyards" add-on, just like the OS/2 version. Bill ~SDC~
Problem description: The ICONs for a ship type will sometimes dissappear during game play. Saving, quiting, and restarting with the saved game brings the ICONs for the ghost ships back.
I think it was mentioned somewhere that the bug was diagnosed, but the fix would require a complete rewrite of the core of the game, so it won't be fixed. Kind of like an inoperable brain tumor, I guess. ;) Bill ~SDC~

I like this one, too ("Near Omniscience" tech): "We've finally uncovered the secret to the popularity of Britney Spears in the early 21st century so you know we're close to understanding all there is to know." :) Bill ~SDC~
A better idea might be super-duper sling shots ! If you could build a starbase in your home sector that will throw ships up to 5-10 parsecs away (in a controlled manner) so that your ship would end up where you wanted it. This could lead to super-duper sling shot interdictors so that you could build a starbase that would stop invasion fleets from dropping in on your home planet sectors . Just a thought.
That sounds like a good idea, too. :) Bill ~SDC
Ah, but the possibilities if the tech could be coded to fit the name. Put several constructors at point A to build a starbase with a wormhole module (it might have to be built up several levels for balance, kind of like a terror star), build another base at point B, send ships flying between the two places for one movement point.

Would be interesting to have stargates as big and expensive structures to run and worm hole tech allows you to build cheaper versions, po
It would be nice to have a button so that you could minimize (this is usually in the upper right corner) the screen without getting completely out of the game. A lot of my other games have this and I find it very convienent as I sometimes need to put the game on temporary hold while I or my wife do other computer business.
You should be able to do this by using either ctrl-esc or alt-esc (I forget which). I really love it that the minors are so powerful at the beginning because I am usually researching different stuff than they are, and I frequently initiate wholesale "trade-fests" where I swap all my techs for all of theirs. It's a great way to ratchet up your tech level early in the game. They also make great trade partners. They can also keep the other AI's busy now, since they can become quite a military powerhouse (especially if you trade military tech with a friendly mino
the latest stardock crashed my win98 system at startup. when i loaded in safe mode i clicked the button (new?) that says don't loadup sdmcp.exe and then everything worked fine. i 'had' been getting some conflicts between sdmcp.exe and my HP drivers which loaded at startup.
I assure you I had a similar problem, only it was preventing my Win98 system from loading all the startup apps - until the latest build of SDC.
