I've decided to offer my meager services (and points) to the Terran Federation. Perhaps together we may make our mark upon the Metaverse! :) Bill ~SDC~

Wow! Nice bug hunt! It's tough chasing down the difficult ones, but soooo satisfying when you nail them. Keep up the great work, and have a few beers on me! Bill :CONGRAT: ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
I'm not sure about minor race alignments. I think the Alexians are evil because I've seen them get the Telenath event where it talks about how the evil Alexians are sacrificing thousands of lives to gain power (whereas if a good or neutral race gets it, it just says they've found an artifact granting them power). And I think I've seen the Carinoids research Hyper Warp which makes them good. Though of course it's possible that their alignment changes from game to game.
I t
The precursors were old and powerful, but not too powerful to keep from dying (I'll give someone a oatmeal chocolate cookie if they can guess where I got that from).
I though that maybe they transcended reality. If you have ever had a tech victory, the humans themselves turn into precursors... Bill ~SDC~
...So I meet up with the Dmer (or whoever those terrorists are) and they're way across a gigantic galaxy... I don't pay them much attention until they poison one of the nearby Altarian planets. Being friends with them (not allies), I decide to role play and pay those Dmer a visit with my excalibur and a few transports. So of course my excalibur gets there way before my transports, and I decide I need to soften up the Dmer fleet because I was bored. (The Altarians are too afraid to do
Last game, I had just managed to defeat enough Drengin ships (thank you, Anti-matter missile developer!) to get them to make peace with me (with 4 trade goods as incentive) -- Good thing, since I was proud of my new dreadnoughts, and the Drengin were starting to field Avatars! I quickly freighter'd them up, establishing 8 trade routes. Started shipping Combat Transports across the map, through Drengin space, to take out the dying Torians....Diplomatic f***-up event, the Drengin declare wa
Would like to verify it thi is just my system or everyone else see's the same thing... I have started too many games to count to check it out but on any new map in Sector: 0,0 Parsec: 0,2 is always clear of the Fog of War.
And who says that the player doesn't get any starting bonuses? ;) Bill ~SDC~
Cari today explained to me in great detail what would be involved in fixing the disappearing ship bug......she said about 10 things that would have to be changed in the "deep gut of pear" to fix the bug
I agree with whoever said that the disappearing ship bug is the way for GalCiv to tell you that "it's time to quit playing and do something constructive for a change." ;) Bill ~SDC~
I forgot that I auto-launched a colony ship and used it to colonize a PQ 14. Nothing like 2000 colonists on a PQ14 to crush morale! Had to destroy the colony and send another colony ship to it. Wasted several turns.
Oh, yes, sounds familiar... that's one of my favorite things to do... grrr.. :D I once gave a few excaliburs to a minor race so they could distract my arch enemy (the Drengins in this game). Guess what? I gave them accidentally to a race I was at
Hi, I guess we won't be seeing much of you for the next few days. Not until you come up for air, that is. ;) Welcome! Bill ~SDC~
I have modest VB6 experience, but I took a look at some of the sample routines he gave me to learn from, and though I understood what he was doing, in VB prowess, I am to him as a microbe is to a human being... Sorry Bill ~SDC~
I signed up a while back when news of the expansion pack came out, but it was mainly to say, "Thank you, StarDock, for all the years of enjoyment that you've given me (all the way from GalCiv 1.0 for OS/2), and for showing me that a company could actually live and prosper by actually putting the customer first." Bill ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
The last update Stardock central put out was mildly corrupt thus causing the 404 error. Now that the new year is out of the way they are sure to sort problem out and issue a new update to correct prob. until then we have to sit back and chill.
I'm already sitting back and chilling... it's getting kind of cold here in New Jersey... I'm just a California boy trapped on the wrong coast... ;) Bill ~SDC~
I actually got a... ummm... pirated version of GalCiv 1.0 for OS/2 and I liked it so much that I went out and bought it... and then I bought GalCiv 2.0 for OS/2, then the GalCiv Gold Edition (with shipyards, which is an add where you could build and customize your own ships (and the AI could, also!) and like what is planned for GalCiv for Windows). And I was following the progression of GalCiv for Windows, but refused to participate in the beta program for purely selfish reasons... that is, I w
Sorry, guys, maybe you misunderstood me. To clarify, when we started talking about the feasibility of manned space exploration, I wasn't thinking in a Mars-specific kind of way. I was being more general. What I intended to say was that we cannot give up on space exploration altogether because then we won't even be in a position to PONDER sending men to Mars, or wherever. Besides, this house (the Earth) is getting a bit crowded, and eventually we'll have to expand. Got any colony ships avail
It looks like it's getting a 404 error when it tries to open ( Link) . Most likely a problem on Stardock's end, not a problem with the program.
I think you're right. I tried opening the link with IE and saw the error. I think it might be that SDC is pointing to an outdated link. Maybe someone knows how to manually configure SDC to point to the correct place? Bill ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
It's just prestige and politics with a dash of romanticism. It's certainly not knowledge. If NASA were serious about science, it would dump the manned space program entirely and focus on robotic exploration of space. Far cheaper and far more effective.
To discover something new and unique, you need a human being. Just think where space exploration would be like without Captain Kirk! ;) Seriously, though, a robot can do only so many things and make so many decis
Yes, it was right after downloading 1.13. I like checking out the changes before downloading, and sometimes I like to refer back to it. Bill ~SDC~
I'm going to give this a bump. ~SDC~
In my current game I have a new CTD (new to me): there is a resource (pink I think), probably one of thoses that you grab with the survey ship in the begining (except I'm near end game), that I've just noticed. Everytime I click on it I have a CTD (had it yesterday, and today just checked twice in the autosave that it was still happening).Correction: it was a Carinoid cargo ship (one of the tiny ones) -- I just saw it destryed by the altarians.
If you get a tech that increases your max hitpoints, your ships and starbases don't immediately benefit from the new maximum. It takes them a few turns to heal to the new maximum. So if you get a tech that raises a ship's hitpoints from 100 to 110, the ship goes from 100/100 (fully healed) to 101/110 (damaged slightly).
I like that. Your ships don't magically get upgraded. Your ships actually have to install the updates. Bill ~SDC~
Cant down laod my cd, Pissed off something sbout I/O bad something something what ever this game seems all hype I cant believe I spent all this money and now I cant even load it....
drjameson: I think you might have a bad CD. I've never heard of that problem before. I'm not sure this is where your posting goes because you are trying to install the gold version (not 1.13), but since this is the active bug thread, this is as good a place as any. :)
On
Not half as jarring as the Drengin theme relative to the others (I renamed the theme to get rid of it). I suppose the mild pastoral theme for the Yor is amusing. One idea might be to have a single theme for all the minor races (in a minor key, of course). However, as with all other computer games I'll turn off the music very soon. -- HtL
It's been that way since the old OS/2 versions. (They borrowed a lot of music from the old game - I thought it was a cool tribute to i
Carielf -- didn't you ask for a screenshot of the display corruption in the little advisor field?
Interesting... I saw that, too, but only in one game. It seemed to hang around until I saved and reloaded. It was fine and then all of a sudden the advisor field got corrupted as described. Since it only happened to me once, I wasn't paying attention to what the circumstances were when it occured. Bill ~SDC~
It depends upon my mood. If I feel lazy, I will restart until I get an obvious advantage. If I feel adventurous, I'll take the first starting point I get. I lose a lot because of that, but it just makes winning that much sweeter. :) Bill ~SDC~
