#4 by Avatar Frogboy - 2/18/2004 9:53:39 PM We're running a bit ahead of schedule. There is a new galactic achievement that brings the cost of starbases down 25% in it along with some smarter AI diplomacy and some bug fixes.
That's great Frogboy! Can't wait to get back home this evening and try it out! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:
#82 by Veteran Geoffrey Montgomery - 2/18/2004 8:25:32 PM On the starbases: The AIs often build two bases in my games, one on the resource field, and one directly next to it. I know that someone here has already mentioned this. Yes, its not a bug if one of them is a resource. Thats an exception to the rule.
In this case wouldn't the bug rather be building a second "useless" starbase, next to the resource one, instead of upgrading it? Specially considering the c
But, in a recent game, a good and chaotic good AI on close terms would not form an aliance with me because they thought I was barbaric even though I had the white good colors (don't remember my alignment number). Eventually they both decided they could live without me, and proceede to make it happen.
That's hapenning to me now! Except for that they're demonic and allied. I guess they think I'm too good for them, or to endure life in such an evil galaxy. So they're on t
Indeed. And in it even if you kill billions, things stay quite clean, no graphic violance. And once you won, killed everyone in the galaxy, since your people will write the history of galaxy, no wonder they will end up thinking of them as good, no matter what... Have you ever played Shogun or Medieval Total war? These are different (but still great strategy games, RTS and TBS mixed): it's quite gruesome when in the end of a battle you choose to execute or not the prisonners...
All's fair in love and war.
To quote James Stewart mother's reaction to that remarq in Capra's "It is a beautiful life": "I don't know about war..."
I wasn't referring to anyone specifically, I just didn't want this thread to turn into an argument
I was just making sure that my post wasn't misread. I completelly agree with you :)
As for the terror stars, I still think it should give a morale drop because it's the worst thing you can do, even if it's to your enemy. (And what if you're actually on good terms with the AI beforehand? That's even worse...)
Again, I agree. Except maybe f
So using a TS should change your alignment and diplo? I can understand diplo, probably even agree. But alignment... Again given the game premis you're not using the TS on your people.
I think it should, even if only a little. After all even some human in your planet may say that there is some kind of respect towards life that should be uphold. Even if they acknowledge the threat the aliens represent, they still might think that's an inhuman thing to do. After all you can g
Luminae, I didn't mean to jump at anyones throat. I was reacting to the remark of Rabid Rob. I think it can be unwise to suggest that kind of thing on such a sensitive subject. And I think I explained what I meant in my post.
Though I agree that the terror stars should drop morality and make the other races more wary of you, kind of like using a planet buster in Alpha Centauri.
I agree too. Not because it may have killed millions of another species (I t
#25 by Citizen CypherPax - 1/30/2004 9:23:15 AM After whining about it, I found three rangers in my last game.
I always play universlists plus Luck. And I usually get free ships. Not in my current game, and I do need them! So I'm using Cypherpax method: I came here to whine about it, hoping I'll be more lucky this evening. ;) [Message Edited]
To be clear:The ends never have, never will and never could justify the means.(ie: "Isn't Warsaw nice and quite after we emptied the ghettos")
I agree with you. I just don't think it is needed to call upon Hitler to make that point. I think his point was that in a galactic war, were you face extermination, etc... That's what I understood. Therefore my first reply: Given the choice between them and us, there is no choice" (which of course applies only to a battlefield
Hey damoose, is your preferred title "Fuhrer"? I just want to make sure that you're proposing the Nazi version of ethics. Further, there's no reason to believe that the survival of the human species is dependent on your government.
I don't think it belongs here, even as a joke, if it was such. Sorry if I sound touchy about this. I guess everyone should. I don't get your point about the survival and government part. They might not have the key to our survavil, but
There seems to be a bug in the "no closer than three spaces" rule for starbase construction.
I thought it didn't apllied to resource starbases
Not me, sorry. In my 'puter, 1.19 seems to be the most stable version ever. Don't flame me for the next obvious piece of advice ;) : have you checked for driver updates? I remember having something similar a long time ago. After hours of changing options, it turned out it was just a connection/cable thing: another cable was in contact with the sound out jack causing the parasites The only time I had sound problems was with the very first mp3 player incorporated into the ga
Think of it this way... Morality is tied to how you treat the members of your own race/empire. Not how you treat ET. The question you are answering is... Does the end justify the means? You are after all fighting for the survival of the Human Race in a hostile galaxy. So consigning billions upon billions of sentient beings to whatever hereafter in which they believe is all good. The question is how many of your own people are you going to sacrifice to get there?
I agree.
It always appears as if the AI does not need to look on its money after all.For example:I lately had an AI with -421k bc,I sold them a tech (don't ask what, i dunno remember)there was a TG connected to it,Next turn the got the TG and their cash got down to about -430k bc, so they rush build it
Indeed disturbing it is. But what you say explains a lot of oddities i observed in previous games (concerning trade goods and wonders). However in my latest APb3 game, no TG/wonder
UP meetings are every 4 yers as Arturus Magi pointed out. I think I read somewhere that there are no more events for planets below PQ12. I think it was in one of Cari's posts. CAn't remember exactly I agree there should be more events. I don't have any (or rather vere very few) until mid-game, when I start having them regularly. It's always like that. But this time I managed to reach a 100 alignement :)
I've never bought a starbase from the AI before. In the few games I could spend that kind of money, I didn't needed the starbase. I guess now it will be a good deal depending on the number of SB you already have.
#36 by Citizen Peace Phoenix - 2/16/2004 8:34:21 AM if they have to rebuilt them it's now their 14th starbase, and it costs a lot Strange, from what I read, I was under the impression that the cost was based on the number starbases you own and not on the number of starbases you have created. There is perharps a "one turn delay" bug ...
Peace Phoenix, you're right. What I meant is I only destroy their resource & big social production starbases, leaving all t
I particularly like the fact that you can no longer trade for techs if you don't meet the alignment req's. I was wondering though, does this apply to techs gained through espionage and conquest as well? Umm, no. I didn't think of that, and that would be kind of unrealistic. But you shouldn't be able to build ships that use those techs.
In my current game, I'm good (100) and my spies just stole the slavery tech (forgot the exact name) :SURPRISED:. I guess
In my current game, there was an assassination event that triggers a war and gives the AI a zillion corvettes all over the map. One of these "die humans" arcean corvettes was occupying the same "parsec" as a torian combat transport. No big deal, just to let you know :) Edit: of course it is a 1.19 game, I forgot to mention [Message Edited]
The major races had starbases all over the place if rhey had to buy them like me, I do not know how they could do it.
I noticed the same thing. Specially with Arceans. In 1.19 too.
This seems to be common upon every load of a game, your party gets 100 members.
I noticed this too ~SDC~
In my experience what has been built cannot be built again, even if the race that made it in the first place is destroyed. That "knowledge" is lost for eveyone. But I wonder: has anyone checked if wedo keep the benefits (for say, diplo translators) when wetraded for it, and then , the AI that built it is destroyed (eliminated from the game)? Do we keep the benefits or lose it? And in AP beta, the minors no long build wonders (and maybe trade goods, I need to check). In my 1.19
Stardock crew - I should confirm this: 1.19 is like 1.49 as far as logistics, right? I'm actually playing 1.49.
I think it's actually a little cheaper in 1.19 than in APbeta. But I might be wrong (I never build more than 3 - 5 starbases anyway, and the games lasts a long time after them)
Question.. does it also cost the ai's the same as us.. to build new starbases... asking because they still have a lot of starbases and can't see how they can afford to get
