I've posted the following in the plantets thread that kind of got out of hand (thus the comments about it) . I had not seen this thread before, and it seems more apropriate here: It is clear how forum threads can quickly degenerate, and I certainly can understand that Frogboy might have taken some of the comments personnaly, or even as aggressions. I have not yet installed 1.8, I'm waiting to finish a game then I'll get it. I think it is a pity (but understandable

Well I just would like to add a word here. It is clear how forum threads can quickly degenerate, and I certainly can understand that Frogboy might have taken some of the comments personnaly, or even as aggressions. I have not yet installed 1.8, I'm waiting to finish a game then I'll get it. I think it is a pity (but understandable) that Frogboy reacted the way he did but some of the posts here were really arrogant and flaming. But I don't blame Frogboy: I've been here since mar
Thanks Mystikmind and Wyndstar for pouring that much information in this thread. i haven't played the game in a long time, and I'm having some trouble with the korath in the game I started last week end. Many things for me to think about here, while I await till I can leave my work... How would you adapt to a no tech trade game? I play more or less the same setup as CornhuskerMac, and that does change things...
Well Smitty, I'm laying with tech trading off. It is my first game after a long pause. Tough medium. And just like yours, the korath are crushing everyone. Even I am having problems, which I usually don't after reaching "critical mass". But their ships are just too powerfull. A fleet of 3 to 5 of their small ships are regularly taking out my fleet of 3 medium hull ships, despite thier defenses. I agree with you ont the tech trading and advantage given, specially since because of th
Better results. New adaptation code to have the AI players be more likely to graduate from Frigates to capital ships depending on their logistics strategy. Hello everyone! This sounds very good Draginol. I've been tring out the expansion, and besides that it looks great, it has given me new interest in the game. The only thing I not
I use military starbases as well. But this strategy seems a little imabalanced so far because it seems to me, at least in my games, the AI has never tried to take out my military starbase without which all my ships would be junk. Instead the AI keep attacking my planets and getting its sgips destroyed, litterally dozens of ships, when not all their ships. It should go for the starbase instead ! Maybe it can be tweaked to attack it more. I see it attack
I've noticed the same thing. clicking on the ship again bring its scanning systmes back online. Maybe it is somekind of ship screensaver that has accidently been connected to the senser systems
I agree that some people here seem to expect too much from a computer game. The AI seems pretty good to me, considering what it is. I have seen it do some good moves, at least twice: one time I saw an enemy fleet and sent a ship to pursue, and lost track of it. It turns out that that fleet went around my sensor range and attacked me from the opposite side, trying to take out the sensorship. The other time I had several sensorships covering my terr
Yeah there are steps to use Stardock Central and archive it that allow you to put it on the internetless computer.. You will need to install Stardock Central on both, Archive it on the computer with the internet, either burn that archive to a cd for transfer or use another means (USB/ Flashdrive etc. ) Unarchive with Stardock Ce
This is my only disappointment with the game. I too bought the electronic version and when I tried to install it on an internetless computer, no way to make it work. The activation procedure seemed quite long, because you need to write to stardock then follow instructions and send them another email with all the data from the computer that does not have internet, then they'll write to you again. So in the middle of the procedure I gave up and ordered another copy, this time on cd. Had I kno
Prices certainly do change from country to country, and not only due to taxes. I bought the electronical version of the game for 39$ and an european edition (to offer someone) for 35$ at play.com (which includes a cd a manuel, tech tree, etc...). So the electronic version is much more expensive. As for really different prices, the best example is always medical treatments: a pill that costs 4$ in europe or the USA will usually be sold 10,
Same game as my previous post, the Torian now surrendered to me, (we were at war). Twice in 1 game, and this had never happened before to me. I wonder now if the luck factor has anything to do with it: I have luck +25 and universalist (who are already luck +25). In thisd game I also found a ranger ship, which had not happened before to me.
In my current game The Altarians surrendered to me! I had attacked them and within a few turns (3 maybe) had destroied all their ships starbases and takes their colonies within my "borders" (they had a couple of planets right in the midle of mine. Their home system (and 4 planets) were 2sectors away, with the drath in between. So I just inherited these 4 planets which has completelly changed the influence map, the drath now being copmpletelly overun by
I've had the never appearing when I have sevreal planets and a very low social spending. It is like the money is first alocated to planet 1 then 2, and when it reaches the less productive planets, there is nothing left. It seems to me it has been this way since GC1 and therefore is not a bug As for the AI attacking, in my games it has attacked me a lot and often. And probably accepted money to attack me as well ("we don't like your enemy, bu
Thanks Jeysie. I must have had a brain hiccup, 'cos I'd been to that page and did not see the blue part before
Well, after reading this thread ( Fuzzy math and game development, in the journals section) I must say I agree with you: no matter how much time Frogboy spends writing and explaining stuff some are never satisfied. I 'd think that at some point the dev said that's no bug and go on explaining why so is so , and that should be it. It is a game not a simulation. And yet, people go back charging at him. Somedays it must be difficult. Hold on Frogboy, keep
I think you can upgrade a whole ship class at once, but I've never done that: too expensive, I usually upgrade only themore experienced ships or, in a crush if I need a better one no matter the cost (to defend a spacestation for example).
Does anyone know what's the difference between build 1.0X.009 (that I installed 2-3 days ago) and 1.0X.010 that I see now?
There is a deficit cap for the moment JDKing, just in case people overspend by accident. I think frogboy said it will later depend on the difficulty level.. enjoy it for now, that's the only way to upgrade without using a *lot* of money As for the original question, as far as I know, no there is no other way, you must move the ships around and disband fleets. It is a nuisance I agree.
You can also set the speed of tech research so that you'll go up the tech three faster. My games too usually finish by the time I reach large.
I tend to agree, but hopefully, most of the posters still participate to the original atmosphere here. I remember in galciv1, from time to time a thread would also get out of hand. Here is a bit more frequent, and most of all, many people don't seem to read the posts (previous topics I mean) on the same subject. I don't know how many time I've answered the same question... As an attenuating circonstance, I might say that the forum is not easy to navigate, very difficult to search, and one c
Hmmm, if you upgrade a ship and keep the same name you get the option to upgrade all the older ships. If you delete said desiegn while you still have ships out in the fleet you will lose those ships, and make a little cash from the scrapping. I've the impression that when you choose to delete a desig
Your ships will repair if you send them back to a planet. And if you research micro repair bots they'll repair themselves fast and anywhere
Something the game Alpha Centauri did that was kind of nice was an "accelerated start". You pick that option, and everybody starts with empires that are similar in power and have about 50-100 turns of development. It was a way to skip the mad expansion rush and get on with the empire management and warfare. It also ensured that
Someone bether informed should answer you. I've noticed this myself since my normal game was reported challenging, and the challenging or tough game shows as painful. Maybe there is some kind of calculation based on the particular game itself, depending on starting position, number of good planets, number of players involved, calculation that then yeld a metaverse difficulty level. This is just what I thought, could be completelly wrong just as well
