You now have to think about how to allocate your limited pool of ships and position them in the best defensive matter ... not to mention choosing which starbase is the most important to protect.
I agree, in my last game I had 2 military resource starbases that must have been attacked by at least 30 capital ships. I had 4 overlords guarding them (that's all I had) some planets being undefended and having to repel invasion on their own. But the 2 resources were more strateg
This has not been the case in any release version, 1.13 included. You always have to pay off the full balance.
I noticed this too
You can use this to your advantage, BTW, by trading a rich but small race all your techs and trade goods, then invading them. If you destroy them before the next turn, they never get the benefits, but still have to pay the costs.
However I'm not sure for this one: in one game I did that and it seemed to me that
I would like to know where to find the Starbase maintenance cost. Are better upgraded ones cost more to maintain as well?
it depends on what version you're playing: in 1.19, 1.2 and AP-b1.49 there are no more maintenance costs, but starbases cost more and more to build (first free, 2nd, 200bc, 3rd 400bc, etc). ~SDC~
I haven't ever tried this, but I wonder how well it would work - if you can't afford to trade for stuff, offer to pay lots of money over time to the minor, get whatever it is you are trading for and then invade and wipe them out so you don't have to pay for it anymore.
I think you keep paying, even after they're gone. Sort of a tribute, to their memory ;)

I think that's the only one, and you better hurry if you want it: only one in the galaxy (:(
Thanks Nastavnik. Alas... I hope someone else will benefit from my mistake. Loading a 1.19 game screws it up to an abandonable point, at least for me. Ugghhh, I was really enjoying that game.
Yeah, that happens. I had the same problem with a previous update. It is also a good idea to archive your previous version before updating, just in case... [Message Edited]

Hello, I haven't had any problems with anomalies. I think it's a random quantity placed randomly in the galaxy, so it may take some games for you to get used if something was changed. Low moral (under52%) always caused a decrease in pop. maybe the effect has been made stronger. But if you give it enough time, build some enhancements (moral ones) and keep it at 100% you should see the pop increase steadily There shouldn't be many differences between 1.19 and 1.2, but it is usually pre

If you have old ships that are obsolete now, don't disband them. Sell them to minors or gift them to majors to improve relations. Don't build eveything in every planet. I don't know if you can find the maintenance info somewhere. I know that from time to time I have a report that tells me how much of my income the military maintenance is using. I try to keep it under 30% (more like 20%) except if at war. If you have too many buildings, you can destroy some (specially when you captur
If you are building a fleet (I don't really recommend it), try the Wraith. It appears to be much too powerful, with 800 hp. I think this is supposed to be 80. So it's more powerful than an Overlord (at least in Beta 3).
Cari posted in the GF that it is 80 hitpoints. You can just make the change in the ships file.

It seems to me that the AI doesn't value them enough (correctly?). They seldom buiit and never use it. Sometimes it might save them, instead of planting a dozen of useless starbases all over the place ! Amulekbird, Since you seem to know the intricacies of modding, another question: is there a way to change the AI building preferences/priorities, so it ould consider using TSs? [Message Edited]
Terror Stars are not "mod-able." They are hard-wired into GalCiv's programming. Nothing you can do will change their characteristics. You can add whatever starbase modules that you want, but as Cari told me, "Terror stars are more than just starbases that can move."
ok. Anyway I hardly build any of them, except when fascing extermination myself (like now). Then there is a "last savage thrust into the heart of enemy territory", commanded by some descendent of Cptn Dool

Is there a way to mod a tech effect, or create a new one, or a new SBmodule that allow to increase its speed? Like a transwarp tunnel tech (supposedly very expensive) or something along those lines? (I don't have experience with moding, so I don't know). If not, I'd say, leave it the way it is. You can always take it in separate parts to the place you want, and then assemble the 15 constructor parts just where you want...
#10 by Citizen _G-Force_ - 2/19/2004 7:39:28 AM Is it available yet for those who preordered?
I think this update is for galciv, not AP. I think I remember they said the AP update would be available after the 1.2 was out. So maybe next week :) . But I don't now if it will be the version available for ^preorders: what I understood is that the gamma version will be availablo to download, but not before -- except if you have drengin.net [Message Edited]
1.2 will have an achievement that will cust your logistics 25%.
Does it means it's one of those "only 1 per galaxy". If so, I hope I get it first (please, please, please...)

I've never noticed the help factor helping in my PQ himeplanet at the start. Usually when there is a PQ26 nearby, I usually find Carinoids on it >:( . I haven't noticed anything about events either. And if I had, the example I gave in my last post would probably suggest that if there is a link, it's not a strong one. What I notice is that all the events that implies a moral choice almost always happens after mid-game.

Mr.Mike, I've only played up to painful. But sometimes I would get several ranger class ships in a game. Uf to 4 or 5. It happens usually when some other race has reached that tech and I'm falling dangerously behind. It does happen at painfull. However I play universalists + luck, which gives a total of +50 to luck. :) . Except in my last game: nothing like that happened, in the contrary: I had two assassination war events, and the enemy received the 100 corvettes gift!

I had two kinds of TS bugs that I remember: one was the fleet thing. For me it used to happen with rangers and avatars. With Overlords I think I had a different thing: even when fleeted, If teh ship was the selected within the fleet, it would move around (I remember because overlord had 15 moves!), destroy enemies ships. When moves were over, If I clicked in the TS and made it move, the ship would be "teleported" back to the TS, and the TS would still have 15 moves left! Go figure. But I co

Does it still applies? I remember having this bug several times in the past, but it was a long time ago. Recently I tried to reproduce it, but couldn't. was I just picking the wrong TS+ship combination or was it fixed in one of the updates?
