thks :)
In fact, I always wonder why I keep protecting my systems with a couple of defenders battleaxes. It is absolutely unnecessary (albeit logical). It should be some imprinting I had with my first wargames (boardgames), where if you were not protecting your systems (cities) you had carriers/missiles wounding you to death...
Actually that's worth doing, because your old and antiquated ships are useless in battle anyway, while in orbit, they have to be destr

Glad that my quite archaic knowledge is still usefull (I've been away for a while, and I'm not up to date with the latest versions) Anyway, Markos2, this was discussed a long time ago, and, if I recall correctly, the main reason is to avoid some cheese tactics that would be to send a transport just with only 1b of troops, then mass drive or core detonate the hell out of the planet, leaving it useless to the AI (and to anyone else), and not losing any troops. But the AI would be crippled
And remember that they (mass drivers, core detonation, etc) only have an effect if your invasion is succesfull: I mean that if your ground attack is repealled, then the planet will not suffer from the attack (no PQ loss or destruction) except for the troops (population) that your own soldiers killed.
Hello Luminae, Yes you can edit the files, but I have no idea how to do it. Maybe you should select yourself the AI level, since it allows you to better balance your game (it's more a difficulty setting in my opinion). And then set the moral alignement to be random, so you don't know right away which civs are most likely to be friends with you.
Tony: do you have a save game with the undead Yor?
Cari, I had some undead Yor too, having the morality chaange event. They were gone for years when that happened. I think it happened also to some other disappeared civs. But since I don't think it is of consequence, I never thought of making a save for it. And I don't know if it would happen again upon reload (it is a random event right?). I just wonder if their "spiritual" presence in the game might modify the scores som
What worries me a little is the idea that it just might be a display error... so, if you accept these 'empty' trades, are you actually trading something you're not aware of? If you reject them, do your relations drop?
I had that just same thought so everytime it happened, I just rejected it :notsure:
I thought the standalones patches were still available? No?
I've been having a long discussion with Matthew downie in the Fellowship thread just about that subject (at the prancinp pony in the empires forum). I think it is around page 29-30, he was exploring the possibility to mod the events so that it would increase the moral change linked to the event.
In my last game I got the logistics hability to 40 I think (2 or 3 achievements). By then, the SB didn't cost that much anymore. Edit: of course, for huge and gigantic maps, the question remains -- but I cannot tell: I never play those galaxies so I have no idea how crucial star bases might be, or not. [Message Edited]
How can you tell that?
Well, what I meant is, it never happened that an ally attacked me, without reason. However I did get ally's entering in a war against me, in one of their other allies were at war with me. But I also had the case were they would break their alliance with the other civ and help me. Are you sure you just didn't miss the information window? Sometimes I click to fast, without paying attention, and miss some important info. I was under the impressio
Hi Walldorf I've played all levels, climbing the ladder... Recently It was tough, crippling and 3 attempts at maso (one of which succesfull). Ot is true that in the maso, at first I only had one starbase in my homesector (where sol is). By mid-game, I took over two resources military and economic, and sent as soon as I could deathknights, then rangers and finally overlords to protect them. One of the resources was in an adjacent sector (of one of their planets) under that civ influence
This was true in 1.13 and 1.19. I assume it is their way of gifting you. I receive Battleship technology, Dreadnaught technology, and even Overloard technology from the AIs in this manner.
Usually, when it is a gift, the text is right (something like, your benevolence has won us, we gift you...). Latelly i've even had trade proposals of nothing against nothing!
And you can't place any capital ships on guard duty since this would piss of the AI in adjacent sectors and even your allies declare war on you
I always have my best ships protecting my most important starbases (economic and military abilities). Their defense is essential, since they help all ships in my fleet. And I haven't noticed many problems with other AIs. Of course it depends on where the SB is located, but I wouldn't build one in one of their homesectors: it wou
Also, The Alterians offered to "trade" RANGER technology for... nothing. Did they mean that as a gift? If so, they used the wrong verbage if not they didnt ask for anything back from me.
I had the same thing happen to me. And I also had a trade proposition, with anything offered on either side!
In my 70 something games, I have had the same sector pq event only once, had a single planet pq event twice and never ever benefitted from the 2 sectors pq event. I played many games using +50 luck and it didn't seem to affect the occurence of pq events.
Until recently I'd never seen them either. Or they would always happen somewhere else. And then, I just had 2 of them, under AP1.49. Both medium maps, in crippling and maso (in my current game). The first was the 2 secto
Yes I noticed that. Saintly has replaced the former good (so, for now, good is better than saintly...) and the same in the "other side": you'll have demonic instead of evil, and then evil instead of demonic.
I've complained about this as well, but I've noticed under 1.2 and AP beta that it's not all that automatic anymore. I've been at war with one of the allies for several turns, and his ally has not done a thing (at least directly). My feeling is that it is definetly better now. I think it is more a matther of relative force now.
Well I managed to register one pure good game under 1.49. All other were chaotic good. But I think it is because the events aren't frequent enough for a player to reach pure good alignement within the lenght of a medium game. However, in my current game, I got lucky and reached the 100 alignement. I'll check if it registers correctly in the metaverse. Minors are building trade goods in this game too.
I always (almost) pick universalists + luck. I usually get some rangers. And in 2 of my games there were +PQ events. One in a nearby sector, the other (in my current game) directly for Sol, giving a +13PQ for every planet. But that's the only times these events helped me, so I guess it is "real" luck: several other times I saw there was such an event but to far away from me for me to benefit from it.
Weyrleader, I think I noticed this too. But everytime I assumed I clicked above or below what I wanted and not noticed. Or maybe PJ is right. On the same subject I think I cannot get the Galactic Research Center to be build: it completes, the planet stops producing, and I can produce it again! (I think in one of my games, everytime I thought " I was sure I build it already", and I think ended up building it 4-5 times!)
Hmmm, I don't think I have ever seen a major buy a trade good from a minor, maybe they should.
I agree. Though sometimes an Ai does demand that I hand over the trade good. Anyway, I try not to exploit (too much) Ai limitations like this one, so I act as if they would buy it, thus cancelling my advantage (and considering the beating I just took, it seems I still need all the extras I can get...)
