Hi! what isnt a uless building but still one that i never build is the one that gives a +1 movement to the ships built on THAT planet. If the game is DA and the planet has +59% starships bonus and the planet has 13 factories, Manufacturing Capital and 12 full econ starbases suporting it then huge ships coming from it each second turn KICK ASS . First-hand experience. OFC I designed those ships

Hi! Where do i find out about this strategy please? I've just checked the wiki and there's nothing about any all-X planet-build strategy. I know for quite some time that there's no single web site that would explain in detail what's specific to all-X planet-build approaches. Most of this knowledge is scattered accoss this forum in many topics. I can't point you to single site, but here's what've sent to one player that asked me about the all_X approa

Hi! Have you tried the Thalians yet? The cheap factories early are amazing. I did, in one of my first DA games. But the game was in small uni and with 10 planets and tech trade off I just couldn't be competitive with my tiny amount of research - couldn't get enough diplo and trade to get some advantage in relations, couldn't research enough warfare techs to take one or two weak AIs, couldn't reseearch hostile environments techs to get more planets... The

Hi! Game DA 1.7a[b].001 Playing metaverse game, I was able to talk to all mayor AIs in the game, before actually meeting them. Minors I had to find to talk. Old bug resurrected: korx's survey ship was "stuck" over anomaly. Playing all-factories (no regular research produced) I had to manualy move spending slider to update time-to-completition of the current research project in lower left corner. Also when I've set focus to research on my HW (producing ~25 TP), and checke

Hi! how do YOU manage to stay out of debt in those large Dark Avatar games with 50+ planets per player? Play Super Breeder. In previously mentioned DL game I had a very good experience with Torians with +70% growth bonus. However there were also those 2500 BC anomalies that helped me cross the big monetary hole I made with lots of colonies. I wanted to try the high-growth approach in DA, so I re-designed Torians to +30% econ, Luck, and +10% to

Hi! Has anyone tried the strategy where you don't buy engines for your ships and just use all of the various Ship Speed bonuses available in the game The bigger the galaxy, the worse results you'll get, because there'a a limit of speed-5 for those ships (6 for ships from a planet with Hyperion Shipyard). If you have the patience to wait such a ship 30 turns to get to your enemy, use it. I won't. I used such ship only in one tiny or small very-slow-tech g

Hi! Iztok, one question related to this: what particular precautions do you take to prevent the other AI's from finishing you off once you've won the first war? None. I do what's neede before the war. There's not much to do anyway: have better diplo than they have (a "+" in relations), have at least one trade route to them (another "+" in relations), make them fight a war with someone else ("they're too busy" "+" in relations). I have some fake "defenders

Hi! Mumblefratz, do you know how the people who are complaining that it's too easy to beat the AI on Suicidal are doing it if not through sneak attacks? IMO I can say something here. Sneak attacks are just a tip of the iceberg, and no cheese at all. Down below that tip are hidden many more or less cheese tactics, that misuse the game mechanics and AI weak spots. Here are some I think are the worst: Good Diplomacy , as it enables player to

Hi! I think this has always been the case. I have no recollection of min-soldiers ever destroying anything. They do, but very rarely. In my last game I took about 50 planets with Mini-soldiers. Drengin just had a heck of a soldiering bonus (85), Arceans slightly smaller (60). I lost one improvement on two invasions. That's about 5% chance to losing one building. IMO safely ignored. AFAIK this low probability was in all versions of the GC-2 game. The

Hi! I know this is one of the big differences between how I do things and the typical player...I tend to sit on the other side of the mental fence wondering what people are doing when it takes some players ten years, on the other extreme, to play through a game and it's not for points. I know they are doing something, I'm just not sure what. Play some other superability than SuperBreeder and you'll very soon know what they're doing. <img src="http://imag

Hi! Which milestones do you aim for? Besides that needed level-2 techs for better abilities, factories, labs... most of my research path fully depends on the situation I'm facing in the game. For DA game it's uually like (in approximate development order): Ion engine for almost everything, and a bit lately tech for Impulse for +1 speed. the bigger the universe, the more the Sensors 1 tech is important, to quickly take those anomalies, <b

Hi! Since thebutterfly has beaten me while I've been editing my previous post, here's what I tried to add: The simpler variant of pacts could exclude penalities, either only defections, or also diplomatic ones, so the only effect would be the forced delay and starting of proper AI's analyzing routines when pact would change. Hi! We are open to suggestions that are simple and reasonable. IMO the "right of passage" is just an overkill-cure to warfightig problems AI can't handle, sneak attack being one of the hardest. To handle war properly, AI neds lots of additional algorithms and time to organize defense. Since additional algorithms are hard to made, you can give it more time by introducing PACTS . The main issue with pacts is forced gradual decrease in relat

Hi! only beam weapons appear even though I have researched lasers. Lasers ARE beam weapons. For the rest, in the ship builder you have several tabs on the upper left side. IIRC Hull, Extras, Engines, Weapons, Defenses... Click on the tab and you shall see available components. On some tabs you have subcategories (weapons: beam, mass, missiles). If you have

Hi! Are these changes significant enough to revisit the "all morale buildings are completely worthless" calculations? Morale buildings are not completely worthless. Until one has free tiles on a planet, he can use one tile for a morale building, to increase aproval on a planet to breed more population. I do a similar thing when I conquer a planet - the morale building is the last to be converted to a bank or production building or whatever is needed. With

Hi! However to determine whether its worthwhile to have a higher pop with fewer econ buildings the only two terms that matter are sqrt(pop) * (1 + planet_econ_bonus) Mumble, please step down from your gigantic galaxies, and try to remember that owning 7 fully mined morale resouces is only possible there. Seriously, one simply can't increase pop fro

Hi! When they build crap like that it doesnt matter what bonus they get. At suicidal level AIs actually don't need buildings. Their initial colony has a base output of about 80/50, and their 1B pop gives ~100BC revenue. If I'd play with such bonuses in up to large galaxy, your civ would be dead in less than one year, no matter what you'd do. I don't understand how anyone can play with the comps AI getting such bonuses

Hi! what do you guys choose to complement your all-factories strategy? Lots of reseach bonuses plus technologists. how any of you who like to play all factories go about your early strategy? I have yet to find a very effective method to research those early techs AND pump out colony ships to keep up with the AI. On your HW you need to build so many factories it can produce a colonizer each second turn WITH fo

Hi! I am confused why it is SO difficult to research to the point of being able to make a 'Fertility Clinic'.... Imagine yourself going into south America into deep jungle to some forgotten tribe that still lives almost in stone age. Hi! If the economy is tough in Dread Lords, it's brutal in Dark Avatar. This statement made me try something I haven't done for a long time: to play Dread Lords game once again, for the first time the suicidal difficulty. So I ran DreadLords 1.5 at friday's evening and generated quite some galaxies to get approximately the same amout of planets me and AIs had in the game in OP. Players also had to be distrubuted evenly and have about the same amount of pl

Hi! the normal 0.55 bil). Cough, cough!! 0.55B is NOT normal, but about double of what one can expect in the game at an average planet with 2.5B+ pop at 100% approval, without starting growth bonuses but having 70% from Aphrodisiacs and both growth techs, and without using Fertility Clinic(s). Hi! Better wording would be that the: The production capability represented by the shields / hammers goes unused, but you don't pay for it, either. Hi! Unused military production is used towards social projects, and vice versa Sorry, but the unused military production is not directed into social. The only transfer is unused social into military production queue, at least in DA 1.61. If you aren't building anything at all (no ships, no planet tiles being built/improved) you are refunded some of the production cost the planet is "wasting" (but I don't think it's a f

Hi! Why would I need 85% approval, if it gives me the same modifier as 75%, plus extra taxes Because the 85% empire-wide approval means you can have on low-pop planets approval at 100% and hence 200% growth. BR, Iztok
