Hi! Sorry to sound sour, but will you also be able to made AIs handle those unique techs? Handle it well? You're not giving the game one or two new techs and corresponding items, but several dozens if them, each requiring its own (substantial?) AI's chunk of code. To nag a bit more, at least in TotA please fix those small glitches in the game that are known for a long time, buit never came on their turn, like wrong displayed production times for planetary improvements/upgrades, rin

Hi! I'm pretty sure you have to have the basic level of each of those techs before you can set down on the planet. The Advanced forms just allow you to get full production out of it later. In one of my first DA games I get the advanced level by invasion, and all planets of that type turned to yellow. Also the conquered one, previously red. This behaviour could be changed in some later DA version though. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smile

Hi! had in red writing "Toxic Atmosphere Reductor" That's the problem. You didn't have the tech for toxic planets. You can not colonize planets with red small circle, only planets with yellow and green (sign that you have the needed tech). BR, Iztok

Hi! I don't run into the economic problem you're having, or at least not to the same scale. do NOT put all factories on your homeworld... Instead, build a factory or two, two morale buildings, and economic buildings. I play on painful with maxed everything and 7 major races Just with these few sentences you told everything: 1) you don't have the kind of galaxy and opositi

Hi! and Planetary Invasion which when I check my tree would take me 58 turns to learn. What was your tech speed: very slow? I'm asking because IIRC Planetary invasion NEVER costed me such an amount of time. So either you have very weak research, or you have below average research and the tech speed was very slow. Those "left and right" techs could be the most cheap ones. Those (for me uninportant) ones, that once I turn my research to, are finished five

Hi! So basically it is like getting a 1% bonus anomaly per week? I've been watching allied Humans in one game (likely DL) some months ago, where they got the slow version of that event. It looked like they got an 1% increase per 2 weeks (turns) in every possible ability. So after about two years I saw them having 4% Crime, 3% Government, 6% Homeworld quality... Lots of abilities, that were intended, but never or no more used in the game. OFC they

Hi! SOMEONE is going to have to figure out what is the perfect proportion of planets/colonies to try for in a 600 system game I'm affraid that will not be me: I call ~40 colonizable planets per player lots of planets. Am not going to touch 600-planets game, not even with a long stick. I leave that job to someone who thinks managing each GC-2 turn for three hours is fun and not grind. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0

Hi! What race are you playing with and what technologies are you researching first? Arceans, 30% econ, 30% morale, 20% weapons (I wanted the advantage of first strike maximized), 10% soc and mil production, Luck, Technologists for bonus on focus to research. Intended playing strategy: all-factories. Never played it, but it should be appropriate for lots of planets and fastest tech. Build on HW: all factories, then focus on research and b

Hi! However the amount of point production from the mines is proportional to the combined military and social slider positions, with fractions rounded down, just as if they were factories. So there has to be SOME industrial production programmed in order for the mines to actually produce anything. Thank you for clearing that up! Now you can see what comes out when one uses focus too much: he misses out-of-focus things. I'll correct the OP. <

Hi! Like I wrote I did a test with the same race and the same universe settings, but with only one fool AI. The aim was to see if the over-colonizing is the source of problems I mentioned in the OP. I also followed about the same research and building path, researching techs that give overall bonuses first. In the test I had better luck with anomalies (~5000 BCs collected), and I haven't built colonizers on new colonies. This allowed me to hold my pop at 100% approval for at least

Hi! > So I decided I'll colonize toward center, to cut AIs access to "my" space, > and then backfill, just before AIs' colonizers get to those planets. hahaha, that dousn't even work in DL! On higher difficulty levels, the AI colony ships are pretty much unstoppable. In that game I estimated I could out-colonize them, if I'd build some cheap colonizers (small hull with just a Colony module) on new colonies and take smaller planets with them.

Hi! Thank you all for your replies! In my OP I forgot to mention that it looks like I had quite a good start: right corner completely mine, with lots of stars and planets, the first neighbour in center. So I decided I'll colonize toward center, to cut AIs access to "my" space, and then backfill, just before AIs' colonizers get to those planets. And they ARE coming - I've seen at least 5 altarians' and 3 torians' colonizers heading into "my" space. No way I can cut them off wi

Hi! After a long time of small games I tried a DA 1.61 game with lots of planets per player. Large galaxy, abundant everything, loose clusters, 6 players - I'd say 30-40 planets per player, ~20 immediately colonizable. After 40 turns in the game and colonizing 19 planets I'm simply broke, running 260BC negative at 69% taxes, 48% approval and 44% econ ability. I haven't bought anything but the first factory on my HW, 've held my empire at 100% approval for as long as I could, built

Hi! my largest expense is a massive colony maintainence from newly colonized planets that arn't yet developed Start ferrying to those small-population colonies pop from your large planets, that are close to maxed population. If you have troop transports, use them, and unload about 500M pop to each new/small colony. If you don't have trop transports, put on a cargo hull two colony modules for 500M space. Advantage of that design is it costs you zero to ma

Hi! Do you build small ships? Why? or even tiny ones? Recently I use those hulls as a frame for constructor modules for upgrading close econ starbases. But for warships I don't use them at all. BR, Iztok

Hi! PeskyFly, IMO you need first-hand experience. Please don't argue you have exams. In the time you've spend here on forum, you could've finished 3 small games. BTW there's no balanced ships from AI until (late) mid-game, just all-attack ones. BR, Iztok

Hi! Altarian - +4 research, +4 econ, +2 diplomacy, technologists Too much research you can't turn off, too little production to actually made something. But you already know that. IIRC my Altarians in current suicidal all-labs game (played them for the first time an all I can say is WOW!) have +4 econ, +2 weapons, +1 morale, soc and mil production, industra

Hi! Such a ship usually destroys 3-6 fleets of opponents's ships ( usually 3-4 small or medium ships ), Err, this is a mistake: it should be "small or tiny ships". Fingers quicker that the mind. BR, Iztok

Hi! I think in the endgame you really want a mix of solo all attack ships backed up by fleets of 5 huge hulls with an emphasis on defense. OFC you're right, but in my games I'm usually the only one with the huge hull when the game ends. Like I said, I like small games and slowest tech... Thinking again, I'm usually the only one with the huge hull regardless of the speed of the research. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gi
