Hi! take a penalty now and have more races on your side later. ... if they survive 'till later. Drenging, Korath and Yor are very strog in those early game years, and their usual victims are good civs, that start researching warfaring techs too late to cope with evil ones. So if you want to play good, most of the time you need to help other good civs. From my experi

Hi! I just noticed I can't edit my old original thread-staring posts. When I click on the Tools button, nothing happens, but it used to show me the Edit menu where I could edit the OP. I tried on two different computers, 've relogined, to no avail. Help please! BR, Iztok

Hi! ALL econ, All Mining, and All Research. Are these the only viable strategies that will win a Maso+ game? No. Masochistic is quite doable with mixed approach - at least that's my experience. What you really need to survive is good diplomacy and something to bribe bullies to fight each other and not you. BR, Iztok

Hi! The tie rule only applies to unfleeted ships. AFAIK it applies to EVERY combat, but only in the last round of the combat. If "live" ship(s) in the last round destroy each other, the strongest survives by the tie rule. what are you referring to as per "powerful?" IIRC Wyndstar found out that the ship with the strongest attack value survives the battle by the tie rule, OFC if it is not destroyed in

Hi! So how can I get my tech going in a hurry? 1) build more research buildings and have enough econ to support them. 2) trade for it. 3) invade for it. And how can I play on influence besides building multiple starbases next to clusters of sweet planets? In early DL games influence victory was IMO one of the ea

Hi! Do you use some ready-made script to parse the XML data and then import that in CSV format to your plotting program? Like I wrote on the OP: I dowloaded the data some months before I did the analysis, hence I don't remember from where. If I would I would state the author. But the site was of an GC fan, and maybe I got to it through GC Library. <div cla

Hi! Why do I lose production, Shields and Hammers, when i take something out of my queue? Because in case of no item in mil or soc queue only the base production is displayed. Check Production explained - how various bonuses apply thread for more details. BR, Iztok

Hi! since everyone has a First Strike ability AFAIK DL lost first strike with version 1.5. But I didn't consider how tiny HD Spike Drivers are when I wrote that post. Check again the graphs on wiki. In the first graph you'll see guns s.x most of the time. The bigger the ship the more they s.x, because their sizemod is about the same as of beams, but always a point or two higher than of missiles. About the onl

Hi! What I percieved was that EVERY war involved going for an HW Because there was not much else to take. But did they follow with their troop transports, like I did? The biggest joke is I followed drengin's warships. 've removed Arceans, Iconians and Humans from the game, all right before drengin's nose, after they destroyed all their defending ships, without me firing a single shot, or moving a single "warship" (armed cargos <img src="http://ima

Hi! I would like to hear how you fare on Gigantic, Rare everything, Very Slow, Max opponents, Max minors however.) IMO that's the easiest setting to play a suicidal game. At least both my gigantic maso games and the recent huge suicidal were with rare everything (no minors though - they make game even easier: more class-15 planets available, already with some infrastructure built), and that one maso game NEVER felt even close to maso to me, and the huge

Hi! how much further do i have to go before i am getting towards being somewhere near a decent player ? Winning three small-universe games on suicidal puts you in the top 5% of players. How much more decent player would you like to become? BR, Iztok

Hi! Buy factory. Buy colony ship. Buy research center. Buy next colony ship. ... and you ran out of money just when you need it the most. I hope you learned the lesson: those 5000 BCs are there are for covering the hole your rapid expansion will made, not for buying stuff. BR, Iztok

Hi! at least on a reasonable difficulty (painful or below). Please note that game on the suidical difficulty level is VERY different. Your experience with below-painfull will not help much there, you need a completelly new bag of tricks. BR, Iztok

Hi! Actually, after you get out to space the weight and size of the cargo no-longer matters becuase there is no gravity to create tension and stress on the ships hull. true I'm sorry but that's wrong. When you change the speed (and ship will do that), tension and stress on the ship's hull comes back. Mass does not go away with the gravity. BR, Iztok

Hi! Why are you complaining about xeno labs? Compared to the 10 TP output of the Initiall Colony they are quite good improvement. Why don't you check the Basic Factory with its 4 MP output and compare it to 16MP output of IC? I'd say that's quite the reason to complain. turning the rest into stock exchages or OFM Do that, if you can. But AFAIK there's no Stock Markets at that timeframe of the game... BR, Iztok

Hi! What Mystikmind forgot to say is: fighting Dreadlords is a war of attrition: for each one of their ships destroyed you'll give some of yours. But you have several times their economy, so you can afford the losses. IIRC in DL campaign I've been using small and medium hulls for fighting, because I couldn't make tiny hulls fast enough to catch DLs' ships. If you find DLs' ships in Dread Lords game hard, you'll be frightened to death with them in Dark Avatar. <img src="http://images

Hi! AI seems to have done horrible job with colonizing, not putting enough effort into it and not enough colony ships, and getting lots of low class planets while ignoring high class ones a little further out of the way... What would you expect from "fool" settings? AFAIK at fool they don't get just most of ther brains taken out, but also get only 10% of "standard" econ output. If you're already familiar with the game mechanics, I'd suggest you to restar

Hi! having high population planets can be a pain in the ass but I just figured something out. Now I kinda think why stardock did it this way. AFAIK Stardock changed the way the morale/approval works because in first DL versions of the game, players have grown 100M planets that generated ridiculous amounts of cash and influence. And just giving farms a morale bonus woud not help either, the whole issue is too complex. For more detailed explanation check th

Hi! An all econ strat sounds more like something that would evolve in the mid to late game. AFAIK Mumblefratz uses the "all-econ" approach in his gigantic games, but he plays one game for several months. IIRC he stated he needs several hundreds of thousands of profit for this strategy to start working. So it seems that for the all-econ strategy to work, two additional conditions should be met: - LOTS of planets for the player (significantly more than

Hi! books harddrives except for weight what is the difference Not much. The 250GB HD weights ~0.5 kg and has a capacity of 250 billions of characters. A 250 pages book weights 0.5 kg and has about 0.5 millions of characters. So a HD can store as much as 0.5 millions of books. 250 tons of books vs. one HD of 0.5 kg really doesn't make such a big difference.

Hi! So what are some good strategies I need to win Suicidal That's easy: you need several easily won games on masochistic before that. Suicidal is not called so by a chance. To win it you need to have a very good grasp at 4X strategy, and excellent knowledge of game mechanics and dirty tricks. Even that will just help you to cope with the "5-times-everythin

Hi! cargo rush more difficult (cargo ships with full of weapons and with no protection). I've tried the armed cargo approach, and failed miserably. Even reported the weird combat (half of my cargo ships not firing and still get destroyed) to the developers. Remember, cargo ships have only 1 HP. They would work as intended only if I'd be playing Arceans. BR, Iztok

Hi! what happens if you go below 0 in money? If you stay in debt for some longer period of time, your pop will become less happy with you - the morale will drop slightly. If you go really deep in debt (several thousands BCs) and play at low difficulty level, your debt will change to -2000 BC. At what diff. level that stops working I can't tell. BR, Iztok
